A Letter to my congressman on Health Care
To all at TPM. I'm asking you to leave bullet points and arguments as to why Americans should have a single payer tax funded health care payment option similar to Medicaid for everyone. I know this has been covered else where but I'm writing a letter and mailing it this weekend and would like help in making my argument effective. So, give me all you got in small increments of course. Just asking for a coherent way to say it to a congress critter, so they get the message.
Thank you in advance.

A point worth making, though certainly not the primary argument, is that the advocated mandatory purchase of private coverage is nothing other than welfare for the insurance industry.
A second worthwhile point is that universal care is a baseline, not a peak.
And you might do well to ask if any nation with universal care has ever returned to a private coverage model.
Those are three parts of what you might say. I'm sure others will have more.

Medicare is popular, easy to understand and easy to explain. Can Americans on Medicare choose their doctor? Of course they can! Does Medicare offer options for purchasing extra private insurance if you choose to do so? Of course it does! Are elderly Americans denied quality healthcare? Of course not! Do elderly Americans wait months for hip transpants, cataract surgery, cardiology or routine primary care? No! So if it is good enough for your mother and grandmother why isn't it a good enough for you and your children?
