Exactly. I do not deny the dissenters their upset or their opinions. I'd just like to hope that our METHODS could change. They can and should challenge Obama's choices--Obama himself, thank heavens, wants to be held accountable. But when they do so with screeds of hatred and counter-intolerance, they aren't improving the country. All great empires have died from the inside out. That gives us a great opportunity to try to heal ours from the inside out as well--by changing our methods.

I very much agree. On top of your arguments toward the benefits of keeping Gates, I would add: it's only been a week. Let's let Obama be Obama. We voted him in... don't we trust his judgement?

I know I do--and I trust him not to be swayed from otherwise good decisions by his shouting supporters. Including myself :-)

Real America is having a guy on the bike trail offer use of his bike pump, when yours starts acting up.

Real America is people willing to stand in line for hours, in order to cast their vote... even people who have so many other important things they could also be doing.

Real America is mingling with townspeople at the local dog park, not caring about anyone's political party, just getting to know them as "Kermit's Mom" or "Scruffy's Dad."

Real America is people using their creativity to put together music videos in support of their candidates--and of the vision they have for our wonderfully diverse, future America.

I agree that this was a HUGE moment in the debate and, eventually, the election. The way McCain seemed to mock the "health" of the mother paralleled, to me, the way he mocks the necessary "safety" of nuclear power. Pshaw! What kind of wimps would care about SAFETY and HEALTH?
