So long and thanks for all the fish.
Dear Socks,
I remember you from before you were replaced by that upstart dog. You were beautiful. I hope you had a happy life and now that you have gone and crossed the road, I hope you are comfortable and safe. Wherever you are, I hope you have lots of toys to play with and friends to hang with and that you get to enjoy chasing dogs. I hope you are happy in your new environment. Sayonara, Socks.
Love, Yvie.

I cannot top Justice.
I am a sucker for pets. Dogs, cats, not much on fish or lizards.

Sox lived quite a long life for a kitty (19 years). I hope my kitty (now 15) can make it as long.

Cats Harry, Hermione and Tess appreciate your proper sense of paying homage where homage is due. And I thank you for the music reference you gave me last week, which I forgot to mention, failing to pay homage where it is due. Thanks.

Tess of the d"Urbervilles, absolutely. And she is properly named, in every respect. Thanks for knowing why.

Smokey and I poured little skim milk out for Socks Clinton on Saturday. Such a cutie-pie he was. Toodles Socks.

Thanks Dija for your and Smokey's contributions. I and Stashman did something similar. We also put a lit candle on the window sill for all cats crossing the road.

All due respect, cats should be banned from the WH, regardless of ideology. I know the feline fans will hate me for saying that.
Glad to see that some canine creature will be taking up residence there.
It's about cats and dogs, not Democrats and Republicans!

Firstly, no body owns a cat.
Secondly, a meow massages the heart, what does a bark do?
Thirdly, Cats always know whether people like or dislike them. They don't always care enough to do anything about it. So to a cat, your dislike is irrelevant. heh. ;)

This is going to be fun!
Cats are the most arrogant animals around. They are Republicans at heart. No one owns one? I suggest they open up their tins of food on their own with their own kitty paws.
No, meows don't massage the heart they make your hair stand on end. I can't help you if you don't understand that a bark is coupled to all kinds of other things as well.
Third, cats love to come over to me and purr. They brush up against me and want to be held by me. They seek out my attention in an intrusive way.
Dogs want to work with you. Cat want it on their own terms.
Like I said, Dogs are Democrats and Cats are Republicans!

Apparently, ILIA, you do not understand cats, at all. Which surprises me. Their leaning are not Dem, not Repug, but rather, just ego-centric-imperative leanings. Much like yours. Which brings me to the not at all surprising fact that cats lean and rub against you.The operative term is lean against, not toward. Meoww.

You can't win with you people.
I will say the great thing about cats coming to me to rub against me...
...it makes them easier to catch to feed to my dog.
:P

You are a very mean person. Heh. ;)
I could feed you to my not-neutered, feisty male kitty. He keeps people in line. He's taken dogs on and won. LOL. Of course I was always there to make sure nothing happened to him.
Why are you here? This is a homage to Socks. Pay your homage like a person, jeeez. Like, really.

Cats are Democrats. They have brains. A dog in a house where cats rule, is a dog with brains too. Dog's can be taught that having a mind is not a waste of time. LOL. I've seen it. ;)
It's the Repubs who are dogs. They follow the leader mindlessly. Just look at the Clinton y

posted before I was ready. Damn it!
as I was saying before I was rudely posted --
look at the Clinton years and how the Repubs just followed their leader straight into ruining things. A cat would never do that.

Clinton certainly went along with it.
I think Bill was more interested in being in heat during his second term... how catlike! :P
Okay... I will let you have the final feline felicitations. How dog-person of me.

Mindy, who is nineteen and hides her age well, wants me to remind everyone that Dogs have owners, cats have Staff. She is perfectly well behaved and does everything I tell her to, however. But then I give her only one command, Do what you want.

No wonder Mindy loves you. You understand her!
Socks was a beautiful cat. I hope he was understood too. That's what they really want, to be understood. Mine has taught me feline language. Really. A skill which allows me to communicate with completely strange cats. ;)

A little OT here, but my daughter was born a monkey. In fact, I used to call her and her little friends the little monkeys. They really were. I even did a cartoon dedicated to them. That was several years ago...
We haz 5 katz and one HUGE long suffering dog that could eat them all for breakfast.
What I find hard to understand is WHY the DOG tries so hard to BE a CAT. Imagine a very LARGE dog, 10 times the size of a cat bed basket, successfully folding itself into a kitty bed. I am anticipating the dogs meows any day now... and her a hound forchissakes!
Oh, and Socks was long suffering and deserves peace.
Nice thought. Rec'd

Now that Socks is feeling catatonic, I think I'll mix me a gin and tonic. As DJ might say, it's not a cat-ass-trophy, just an apostrophe on a none-too-abbreviated life. Maybe there's a Catillac waiting in heaven for poor Socks, or some more feline catraption. As my favorite philosopher Cat-o would say, "Cum anima adverterem quam plurimos graviter in via morum errare, succurrendum opinioni eorum et consulendum famae existimavi, maxime ut gloriose viverent et honorem contingerent. Nunc te, fili carissime, docebo, quo pacto morem animi tui componas. Igitur praecepta mea ita legito, ut intellegas; legere enim et non intelligere neglegere est." Or perhaps Cat-o's more concise one, "Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives."
