ANC Chenega is subcontractor to Wakenhut for NASA Agency-Wide Protective Services Contract

June 24, 2009

NASA Awards Wackenhut Agency-Wide Protective Services Contract   WASHINGTON -- NASA has announced the selection of Wackenhut Services Inc. of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., to perform an agency-wide consolidated contract for protective services. The initial contract value for a possible 10-year period totals approximately $1.2 billion.

Wackenhut will provide fire services, security services, emergency management, export control, protective services training, and protective services information assurance and information technology security.

The contract is a performance-based, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract enabling protective services to be provided to all NASA installations under a single agency-wide contract. This consolidated approach will promote coordinated and efficient operations throughout NASA.

It is anticipated that 14 firm-fixed priced task orders will be issued under the contract. Each task order will authorize work to be performed at NASA locations throughout the United States. The basic period of performance will be for five years. The contract will contain five one-year option periods. The contract also contains an option to increase the maximum value by 20 percent, if needed.

The major subcontractor for the contract is Chenga Security and Protective Services of Ashburn, Va.

This selection is pursuant to re-evaluation of the proposals and a new selection decision ordered by the U.S Court of Federal Claims directing NASA to take corrective action relative to its initial source selection decision. Pursuant to the court order, NASA appointed a reconstructed source evaluation board, appointed a new source selection official, issued reconsidered findings, and made a new selection decision.

Where did all the Enron energy traders go to work after the collapse?

I can't seem to find any. I highly suspect that they may be working for low-profile (high dollar) defense contractors.

Does anyone have any insight on where these rats went to after Enron collapsed?

I think the free market is working great, just fabulous actually.

That's what the Insurance (and Banking) executives are saying.

What is a free market price? The price the market is willing to pay, right?

So if everyone continues to pay stupidly high prices for insurance, irrationally so - do we blame the free market (opportunists) or ourselves for buying the snake oil?

I will never understand how hardworking people just hand over their hourly wages for so much junk (including crap insurance policies) without any thought. Walmart's entire business model is based on this assumption of human behavior.

These days I'm trying to take a hard look in the mirror. To look to my own pocketbook for the choices we've been expecting politicians to make - every dollar I spend is taking sides, it's time I tried finding out which side I'm paying for.

Health Insurance Company Raises Premiums On Its Own Employees

What about a federal furlough to get healthcare and consumer protection passed?

If the only thing Congress can get done is congratulate each other for doing nothing, why doesn't Obama threaten (and follow through) with a federal furlough?

I'm thinking healthcare would get passed in a hurry if he stopped all Medicare payments, and premium payments for federal employees.

I can see banking regulation transform into a thing of beauty if he ended all federal contract spending until it was done. A free market product full of accountable contracts would rise like a phoenix by sunset.

He should be voting his pocket book, the US Treasury.

If we hadn't bailed out airlines over and over and over again they probably would have come up with a service that was safe and at a price people are willing to pay. Not the stupid TSA that probably eats up more productivity in this country than any farm animal flu could.

Levi Johnson Demonstrates More Dignity than Sarah Palin

Andrew Sullivan's Link to Levi Johnston's Entire Interview

I think Sarah has been told enough times to make it true (in her own mind at least) that God wants her to lead. Lead what... I think God has yet to open that door for Sarah, which is why she can't answer to it. Did this woman have a vision? Prophecy?

Is it just me or is "The Family" just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the political ambitions of messianic people dictating nearly every facet of public policy?

Woman Jumps From State Office Building In Juneau

Woman Jumps from State Office Building in Juneau

This was just tweeted from the Juneau Empire.

Not to make light, but it is extremely strange to have people suicid-ing in the middle of summer in Alaska.

Palins 2012 Slogan: Work Is For People That Don't Fish

I have fish on the brain. I blame this guy. fishing

His nefarious attempts to distract me from my job are costing someone money, I may have to quit my job to address his fish issues full-time.

Will Palin's Resignation Actually Cost the State of Alaska MORE?

Mudflats @ http://www.themudflats.net/2009/07/07/buckle-up-the-palin-transition-begins/

"What all this means is that there will need to be a special session of the legislature to confirm Campbell.  If there's one possible way that Palin can become even less popular with legislators than she already is, it's by yanking them out of their hip waders, and recreational vehicles, and the gorgeous Alaskan summer sun, and hauling them back into the capitol for a bunch of meetings."

Note: A special session includes the cost of sending all the far-flung legislators BACK to Juneau, that's a helluva lot of airline tickets during the peak season.

"What else comes with a special session, besides cranky legislators, and extra business?  A big fat price tag is what.  Based on previous estimates, we could expect the costs to run well into six figures.  Wasn't one of the reasons Palin decided to drop the ball and walk off the court "pass the ball" and resign as governor because her presence was supposedly costing the state money?  Just askin'."

Anyone got a calculator?

Anyone Remember the Fabulous Debate About Women & "Having It All"?

I just wanted to bring up this great debate we had last fall when Palin was tapped about what she was really representing by bringing a newborn onto the campaign trail with her.

My very bad memory seems to recall a generational difference with regards to the meaning of feminism - and gender equality.

It was probably the most insightful debate I've had on the subject and I was hoping the other participants would like to bring it full circle now that Palin has resigned.

Disclaimer: as a 30-something working mother of two, one special needs - I think the worst part about Palin is that she has so many convinced that she could have had it all except for being a victim of... *fill-in-the-blank-here*, instead of being a victim of her own choices.

Does "having it all" mean having it all at once?

Discuss =-)

I Think We Understand Each Other President Obama.

I am concerned for our collective soul if we don't prosecute the Bush Administration for their kangaroo courts (i.e. Military Commissions) and the torture that appears to have been sanctioned by them.

but

I am encouraged that by making the C.I.A. memos public, they will be held to account by the American Public at large.

Mr. Cheney et al need to accept that what they did is unacceptable and be grateful for the gift Obama seems willing to give by not prosecuting them.

If they fear going to jail for what they did - or wanted to do - perhaps saying nothing so it can't be held against them would be a nice place to start.

President Obama can make me feel a whole lot better about 'moving forward' by including strict International Labor Standards in each and every Trade Agreement from now on.

Stopping the mistreatment of Labor for Profit seems a perfect way to send a sincere message of respect for Human Rights.

Please don't Socialize Healthcare.

Socialize Energy Instead.

McCain's Promises in the Context of a Democratic Majority in Congress

I'm a little behind here in Alaska, and happen to be watching the debate on the DVR. As my husband and I listen to McCain list off his, (healthcare, tax & foreign policy) goals and campaign promises we make sure to ask as the end of each one... "in partnership with a Democratic controlled Congress?

Normally I'm all for the checks and balances two-party control provide, no matter how frustrating the tiresome partisan rhetoric becomes. But I happen to think a Democratic controlled Congress will be able to steamroll McCain a helluva lot easier than they will Obama - perhaps a difference in leadership ability?

It's Not McCain's Job to Clean Up D.C. - It's the VOTER'S Job!

I'm pretty stunned at McCain's 'daddy will take care of you' line of late, that he'll clean up Washington for the American People. This is pretty weird coming from an Arizona Senator who disingenuously co-opted Goldwater's rugged individualist streak.

Well, it's not his job to clean up Washington - it's a job ONLY the American People can do - by voting the bastards out!

Palin's Open Government Talking Point is Utter Bullshit

I just read the New York Times article Once, Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes and what really struck me was the use of a personal email account to conduct State business.

While Ms. Palin took office promising a more open government, her administration has battled to keep information secret. Her inner circle discussed the benefit of using private e-mail addresses. An assistant told her it appeared that such e-mail messages sent to a private address on a “personal device” like a BlackBerry “would be confidential and not subject to subpoena."

Ms. Palin and aides use their private e-mail addresses for state business. A campaign spokesman said the governor copied e-mail messages to her state account “when there was significant state business."

On Feb. 7, Frank Bailey, a high-level aide, wrote to Ms. Palin’s state e-mail address to discuss appointments. Another aide fired back: “Frank, this is not the governor’s personal account.”

Mr. Bailey responded: “Whoops~!”

What the fuck? Not to mention her husband sitting in to cut the State budget.

After I vote for Obama in November I'm going to be the first to sign a petition for her removal from office.

I heard her say that she opened up State government by publishing spending online.

I've learned more about her these past couple of weeks than I ever did living in Wasilla since 2000.

This lady is fucking scary.

But, to be fair - my mother warned me when Sarah was running for Governor. I should listen to her more often.

Stagflation Is Worse than Inflation - McCain Does Not Know The Difference

With inflation, prices rise and eventually wages rise too - but not before everyone has to pay more... with less.

Stagflation is worse. Prices rise and wages don't. This is what we're experiencing now.

Wages staying flat, the dollar worth less, goods and energy costing more - the money we make does not buy the same quantity of goods, services and energy. The wages are not rising with the rise in prices - instead employers are laying off employees.

When prices rise, employers can't control the price of goods but they can control their labor costs.

McCain plans to tax people on the employer paid benefits they receive. The health premiums that your employer (might or might not pay) will be subject to income tax. Including these premium on your "taxable wages" can push you into a higher tax bracket.

He's not raising your taxes, he's raising your taxable wages therefore moving you into a higher tax bracket.

This should be an affront to proponents of flat tax.

Corporations are allowed to pay taxes AFTER expenses. After their utility bills, after their long liquid lunches, after their expensive car leases.

Individuals are forced to pay taxes on all the goods, services and energy required to function. Individuals pay taxes before they pay the car lease, buy groceries - BEFORE utility bills.
