yes, there's still racism. (show me a place that doesn't have that -- maybe antartica.) and there's certainly conservatism. but this is a fine fine day for folks who live in the BLUE state of No'th Cahlina, where nothin could be finer.

huge lines for early voting in wilmaville: three hours on the final day. most of the folks I saw there were african american or college age.

but today... I saw one big line -- in my nearly all white high-end neighborhood, at 6:30 am. everyone who wanted to vote before work.

I came back at 8:15 am, no line. I was voter #226 for my precinct.

I've been driving obama voters to the polls. been to two polling places, no lines at either one. I did this in 2004, too, for Kerry. one of those places was a zoo back then. all quiet today. I think most everyone voted early (a predominately african american neighborhood).

expected to pick up after work. but it's been pretty smooth so far. and the weather has been cooperating nicely -- cloudy but no rain.
