Out-of-control Helium Balloon flies across country - GOP claims their Health Care Reform plans are inside
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A homemade helium weather balloon got loose
from the Republican National Committee headquarters today, leading
authorities on a cross-country chase after Republicans insisted that
their plans for health care reform were on board.
"All of our plans, like tort reform, just took off and flew away," said
RNC Chairman Michael Steele. "I don't know how they got in there, but
our plans are now up in the air. Including tort reform."
The balloon flew across three states before it finally came to the ground near Salt Lake City. Worried onlookers quickly opened up the saucer-shaped balloon but found nothing inside.
"We had hoped we'd find the GOP health-care plans in there," said firefighter Tim Johnson. "But instead, all we found was hot air."
Afterward, Steele stated that the GOP had found their health care plans hiding in the attic and were, in fact, safe.
"All our health care reform plans - like tort reform - are healthy and safe," said Steele on his blog "What up?". "We found them in the attic alongside our war plans for Iraq and Afghanistan and our flood evacuation plans."

"All of our plans, like tort reform, just took off and flew away," said RNC Chairman Michael Steele. ...."
Once again it can be shown that Steele did not understand what he was talking about. [I know you made up the quote, at least I think you did, but bare with me] The ability of helium balloons to rise in the atmosphere is based on laws of physics. The size of a balloon capable of lifting the weight of the boy thought to have been in this balloon can be calculated. A balloon that could lift the boy would be capable of reaching some maximum altitude and increasing the size of the balloon would increase that altitude. Now, because I don't know the dimensions of the balloon in question, I will speculate, but keep in mind that the dimensions were available since the father built the thing.
I did see pictures of the balloon with a person in the picture to give an idea of its size. Based on playing with helium balloons many times and on seeing many pictures of balloons that did carry a payload, I don't think this one was nearly big enough to carry the boy away. I believe that relatively simple arithmetic could have told the would-be rescuers that the boy could not be in the balloon because he would have been too heavy for it to rise from the ground. The fact that after losing just a couple of compartments of helium the balloon could not keep its own empty weight aloft pretty well confirms my speculation. The same use of math could have shown within a fairly small range how high the balloon could rise from the ground if it could rise at all. One report said it reached fifteen thousand feet. The air is mighty thin at that altitude. The rescuers should have known they were chasing a wild goose, so to speak. It kept the bobble heads of the news busy for a day, though.
Is any of his pertinent to your blog? I think so. Simple math shows that the Republican non-plans do not add up but the weight of the BS their arguments are made of should, SHOULD, keep them from ever getting off the ground. Republican scare mongers just want us to believe they have a plan floating but people who understand simple laws dealing with cause and affect should see this and disregard the Republican's scary stories out of hand. We shouldn't have to chase down and expose how empty are their trial balloons which are meant only to panic people.

But you make the point of the blog perfectly -- GOP Health Care Reform is nothing but hot air, and it would have kept that baby afloat and NEVER come down!

Oh.
But, then people in the MSM would have to have brains as a prerequisite for employment. Obviously, that isn't the case....

If you've never seen the movie "Danny Deck Chair," rent it! It's Australian, and it is really great -- about a guy who flies away in a deck chair hoisted by helium balloons. You'll be surprised - you'll be thinking about it for days after seeing it!

Homemade helium balloon?
Um... actually that was just Rush Limbaugh a little fuller of hot air than usual.
Maybe he is their health care plan. Certainly a poster child for how 'not' to be healthy.

Given that the Democrats are running this circus, it really doesn't matter what the Republicans have to say on the matter. Nevermind people like Paul Ryan and his attempt to provide alternatives through things like the Patients Choice Act.
The legislature ultimately passed by Congress will fail on three key objectives people have laid out:
1) Keeping your current insurance if you want to
2) Making sure all Americans have insurance
3) Lowering the cost of insurance
The answer is to take the money that we're already spending, and spend it more efficiently. The answer isn't to just lop on more spending to a system that's already spending too much.

We already have the patients choice: death or bankruptcy.

Not really. But if that's how you want to look at it, that's your right. We have a big problem in front of us and both Democrats and Republicans have been working to come up with ways to fix the current problems.

Well, now that is a breath of fresh air!
The GOP has finally figured out a flood evacuation plan, four years after Katrina! It seems they almost had an Iraq evacuation plan, six years later. Don't know why we're waiting for a heath care reform plan from them, that should take decades. Well, there was 1994, and now its 15 years later. Should be getting one any year now!

Very funny. I guess people here just choose to ignore the healthcare ideas that Republicans in Congress have put forth. Which is fine, since whatever gets passed will be a partisan solution written by the Democrat majority. The Democrats will have to live with this solution as their shining moment on the biggest most important issue in front of us.

At least they will get do 'something' and I do believe you are wrong about how things will end up. I don't expect it to be perfect but I believe the final bill 'will' make significant improvements in health insurance/care reform.

Significant improvements?
Do you realize what percentage of Americans currently have "gold-plated" insurance coverage and will be subjected to the surtax? It is more than you think.
Do you realize how many Americans will have their coverage dropped by their employer because their employer will rather pay the penalty than continue to carry the employee?
And how about costs? How will the bill reduce costs? I haven't seen anything that lets people go across state lines to buy their coverage. At least that would help competition.
But at least I guess you're admitting that both sides are trying to fix the problems we're facing. It's not as one sided as folks like WKW like to pretend.

Yes, it is their moment to shine. I just wish they would.

But they won't. Because they're no better than any other politician in Washington. They'll just promise that things won't really take effect until 2013. So don't blame them if things aren't working out. After all, they need to collect all the money first through higher taxes before they can find a way to spend it efficiently.
