GOP celebrates 24 hours without anything stupid, immoral or illegal happening, "We're back, baby!"

WASHINGTON -- "We're back, baby!"

Such were the words of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele after being informed that the Republican Party had finished an entire 24-hour cycle without any of its members being caught in an act of adultery, quitting, or being convicted of any type of crime.

"This is something we are going to build on," said Steele. "I think the American people can now see we are able to go one full day without anything disastrous happening."

Following a train wreck of a month that saw Sen. John Ensign admit to adultery, S.C. Governor Mark Stanford go AWOL from his job before admitting he also was an adulterer, and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin give her three-week notice, the news that no huge scandal had broken in a 24-hour period had the Republican base feeling optimistic about its future.

"If we can go 24 hours, who's to say we can't go 48?" said Republican leader Newt Gingrich. "I'd hesitate to say we could go a week, but we're making progress."

One media expert who asked not to be named said that the 24-hour accomplishment by his party once again proved that that the GOP was a "serious party that took things seriously."

"In all seriousness, the seriousness shown by Republicans during this period is what the people have long clamored for," said the media expert. "While Democrats are busy electing comedians, Republicans are not cheating on their spouses, quitting or being arrested. This is a very serious development that must be treated seriously."

But while Republicans celebrated their day with no drama, several bloggers and independent journalists added one caveat to the accomplishment.

"Remember," wrote blogger Mustang Bobby. "No Republican was 'convicted' of anything or 'admitted' to adultery. That's a pretty important distinction."

Still, for their part, Democrats in Congress seemed impressed with the GOP's sudden morality and vowed to work with them in anyway possible.

"We always keep an eye on the opposition and we know the public is excited to see that the GOP was able to get through the day without any types of admissions or convictions," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "I think it would be in Democrats best interest to act in a bipartisan manner now and drop the Public Option from the health care bill. That will show the new, serious Republican Party that we are serious, also."

I think the clock may need to be reset-

Sarah P.- Dept. of Law?

user-pic

Yes.

It's sad to have to say that there was in fact some seriously 'stupid' from Palin so the clock seriously needs to be reset.

Maybe the republicans should pace themselves and celebrate the next time they can make it for 12 hours before attempting 24:)

Great post again william. 48 hours would be a moral marathon though requiring lots of coolaide.

user-pic

Seriously rec'd, in all seriousness.

Amazing to me that a 24 hour period of time with no scandal for the Republican Party is cause for celebration. Shouldn't it be a much longer time lapse? Anyway, it is refreshing to find other news in the headlines even if it is Michael Jackson's funeral service.

Just because we didn't see it doesn't mean that it didn't happen. I betcha something went down, somewhere.

(Sorry about the "betcha". Wasn't there a Palin interview this morning or something? Sadly, I didn't watch it and/or even plan to watch it. But it's out there.)

If they go a whole week, then next week will be disistrous as the odds catch up with them. Maybe two a day!

user-pic

Didn't happen?

Or didn't get discovered, reported, and hypocritized over?

"In all seriousness, the seriousness shown by Republicans during this period is what the people have long clamored for," said the media expert.

I hard that differently:

"In all seriousness, the seriousness shown by the Republicans during this period is what serious people have seriously clamored for. Seriously"

Not so fast:

http://thedailyvoice.com/voice/2009/07/outrage-over-rep-peter-kings-m-002076.php

Republican Peter King managed to alienate every black person (and every white music lover) in the United States of America.

so even this blog turns out to be a scandal:)

Let's mess up this grading curve: Phone Dan Quayle.

24 hours is just too long. Let's see how long they can go, and THEN set the standard! But that is assuming that republicans can count -- ok, we all know they can count money, as in what the insurance industry is plying them with, but it is SO DAMN HARD TO KEEP IT ALL SEPARATE AND SECRET!

So just give us some time to get at least 24 hours free of scandal! On the other hand, Jesus forgives everything, so who cares?

Sanford quote: I was always faithful to the South Carolina Government. I never wavered from my fidelity to that orifice --- er----office.

user-pic

I think it just was a 24 hour fluke...

user-pic

Cure. But since Palin has not stopped talking since Friday, not very likely.

user-pic

I meant "cute". Cna't type.

Much lol-ed!
