GOP 'Patriots' Strike America Once Again
|
BENEATH THE SPIN • ERIC L. WATTREE GOP 'Patriots' Strike America Once Again My computer is still warm from my last article where I pointed out that the GOP is no longer conservative, and has become anti-American. Now, reinforcing my position, they've struck out against America again. In last week's column, "Limbaugh-Beck and the GOP Patriots Against America", I pointed out that you can say what you will about true conservatives, but they are fiercely patriotic, and will ALWAYS, support America, regardless to what the circumstances. But this current group of renegade Republicans are clearly demonstrating not only that they're not true conservatives, but they're not even loyal Americans. With every day that passes it becomes increasingly clear that their only concern is making money, regaining power, and accommodating their own self-interest, and they're more than willing to throw America under the bus to achieve those goals. Evidence of that fact is they've left no stone unturned to protect the insurance industry, deny Americans affordable health care, and literally celebrated America's loss of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Now, as though to reinforce my thesis, these so-called patriots have struck again by attacking President Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Regardless to your politics, just take a moment to ask yourself, considering America's low ebb in world opinion over the past eight years, would any true conservatives, regardless to their domestic grievances, criticize the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to the President of the United States? Absolutely not. To have such an honor come to these shores should be a cause of celebration for every American in the country, since even the biggest fool in America should recognize that this honor gives our president the added international cachet to successfully pursue American foreign policy abroad. But in spite of that, upon receiving news of this honor coming to America, the Republican National Committee issued the following statement: "The real question Americans are asking is, 'What has President Obama actually accomplished?' It is unfortunate that the president's star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain - President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action." The question that the world must be asking is, 'What kind of idiots are we dealing with here in the United States that would be actively working against their own government?' Secondly, the GOP seems to be completely oblivious to the fact that the Nobel Peace Prize is not limited to simply what has taken place since the inauguration, but what the rise of Barack Obama represents overall. After all, What other world leader in history has done more to inspire the hoped of people all over the world than Barack Obama, and in such a short period of time? This man is, literally, perceived as the walking, breathing personification of hope for people all over the world. So to have given the Nobel Peace Prize to anyone else would have been remiss. In addition, by indicating in the formal GOP statement that "President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action", they're betraying the fact that they think the American people are stupid. One would think that the GOP wouldn't even want to mention these issues, since it is only because of Republican malfeasance in office, their fiscal irresponsibility, and failure to adhere to their 'small government' rhetoric for the past eight years that has caused Americans to be without jobs in the first place. But the American people have come to ignore such nonsense from the Republican Party, because they recognize that due to a clumsy Republican attempt to manipulate public opinion, most GOP missives of this sort comes from Michael Steele, the closest thing to a love child between Michele Bachman and Snoop Dog (Sorry about that Snoop). The fact is, I challenge anyone reading this article to give me the name of any other person alive who could have rejuvenated America's stature in the world more effectively than Barack Obama. I also challenge anyone to give me the name of any person alive who could have brought more hope to the people of the world than Barack Obama. This man could have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize upon inauguration, and it would have been perfectly justified. I only wish the president hadn't chosen to apologize for receiving this award., because there's absolutely no doubt that he's exactly the kind of man that Alfred Nobel had in mind when he created it. Thus, it wasn't awarded based on stats - it was an award that came directly from the heart of the people, as it should always be. So President Obama had absolutely nothing to apologize about. He not only deserves this honor, but he's elevated the stature of all those who preceded him. The Republican Party claims that he only received this honor because of his superstar status. But as with most things, they have it completely backwards. President Obama didn't receive the award because he's a star, he's a star because he has the very qualities in a world leader that deserves to be honored. Even so early in his presidency, our forefathers are smiling down upon this man with pride, and even as I write, I can hear Thomas Jefferson saying, "Scoot over Abe, we've got company." So wake up, America, before it's too late. The GOP deals exclusively in hatred, fear, and war. Torture, death and descension is their forte, because there's no money to be made in peace. Congratulations, Mr. President. Alfred Nobel has never been done so proud.

Excellent Watree.
Nice to see you can spell 'Nobel' correctly (not 'Noble' Prize) unlike some of our highly rated TPM commenters.

Sounds like a communism Waitree. I am not necessarily calling you a communism, but this here sounds like a communism.
Now rush, and beck and savage and hannity....well, they are sure you are a communism.
You know, something happened when that wall in Berlin fell down. And it was not Germans organizing to create a better State that would challenge the world again.
No, the repubs and conservatives lost a scare...a fear of some nebulous communist threat.
So they looked around and agreed upon some nebulous terrorist threat. THAT NEVER WILL BE DEFINED.
Damn I get mad.
We, America, fall for this shite.
MY PRESIDENT HAS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE ABOUT.
And I certainly hope he succeeds.
AND THE REST OF THE WORLD DOES HOPE HE SUCCEEDS.
As always, goooooooooood post.

Thank you, Dick.
Collectively, they seem more like neo-fascists to me. But actually, I don't think they have enough brains to to formulate a philosophy. They're just hateful and greedy.

Beautiful. Thank you for the video. Made me and Mr. Writergal cry all over again.

It had the same impact on me, Writegal. It's amazing how fast a moment in time can slip into a moment of nostalgia.
But watching that also angers me. It brings clearly into focus what a selfishly pernicious force the current GOP is to the world, what the world could be without the disruptive influence of such people.
I simply cannot understand how so many of these mean-spirited people can call themselves Christians.

Simply put...republicans hate a success story they are not involved in and haven't been given substantial amounts of campaign funds to support. They never think about what's good for the country unless there's something special in it for them. And they never go to the public for support because they, the public, are not able to generate the necessary funding to see their issues come to fruition. Finally, rejuvenating America comes with a steep price tag - it's not something that can be done on the cheap. And because the government is inept, the process must be given to the private sector who are more successful at getting the appropriate outcome depending on the amount of funding available.
In short, republicans firmly believe success is market driven. Since Obama's personality, drive and devotion to a cause isn't marketable, in their opinion it's not worthy of the amount of inordinate credit the world gives him simply because it cannot be reproduced, packaged and sold.
But what's lost in this whole charade is Alfred Nobel was an highly successful business person that fits into the republican mold. However, his invention that earned him his wealth was used in manners so repugnant to his sensibilities, the Prize is used to award and honor those whose efforts promotes mankind instead of ravaging it. Our current day repuglicans haven't a whore's chance of ever having the dignity and humility of ever being considered.
Wattree, there's no way to compare crass with class.

Beetlejuice,
You gave me a lot to chew on there. That's why I love this site - the denizens here are nuanced thinkers, unlike many popular locations on the net. I've never come here without logging off with something to consider.

The GOP has become fair weather patriots. They are GOP first and Americans later. It's real abandonment of their country now, but when were they ever to be counted on in a fight? They are not fighters, they are war profiteers, nothing more.
Great post! Not too many too soon, Watttree. You always bring good stuff.

I try to be realistic. I'm not what one can call a great writer, so I try to compensate for that by only writng on issues that I'm passionate about.

You do write well. The comments on your posts are always appreciative of your sharing your perspective on things and that perspective is shared by many. Nevertheless, somehow your posts touch people in ways others miss, otherwise they might ignore your posts because they are the same as so many others. They are not. You seem to put things on paper others miss.
