Born Chattanooga TN, raised in small towns in middle TN. BA in Chemistry, Vanderbilt, '62. U. S. Navy, Aviator and Patrol Plane Commander, '62 - '67. Purdue, MS '69, PhD '72, Chemistry. Postdoctoral Fellow, Chemistry, Princeton, '72-74. Taught Chemistry at Syracuse U '74-77, U of TX Austin '77-'84. Staff member, Los Alamos National Lab, '84 - '05. Laboratory Fellow at LANL, '90 to date. Retired '05, work part time at LANL and the Santa Fe Institute.
