bring on the Spurs/Suns!

The Utah Jazz have reached the Western Conference Finals, defeating Golden State 4-1. It's the first time since 1998 that the Jazz have reached the conference finals. This is, of course, delightful -- even if it means that my sleep schedule is slightly skewed by late games.

I do enjoy basketball -- even more so when the good guys win. :)

They came oh so close during the Stockton-Malone years to beating the Bulls. I wanted them to win at least once back then.

Methinks that one reason Suns-Spurs is turning into such a rough series is that the winner smells a championship. So much the better for the Jazz. A letdown by the winner of Suns-Spurs is the best thing they have going for them.

Good for your Jazz, though, regardless of what happens...

Hey, AmericanDreamer!  Long time no read -- hope all is well with you.

I too wanted a Stockton-Malone era championship -- enough that I actually cheered for the Lakers in the playoffs during the season Karl spent there.  (The horror, the horror!)

And I agree that the Spurs/Suns are smelling a championship.  And after the expulsions following Game 4, emotions are running high.  I'm glad that "my" guys get to rest, though.

Do tell: which team would you "rather" play: Suns or Spurs? My sources reliably inform me that, for purposes of responding to this question, the jinx factor does not apply to fans who express such preferences. :

Update: Unfortunately, it looks as though the MVP of the Suns-Spurs series has to be Robert Horry. We'll never know what would have happened if...

Nicely put.  I would have preferred to see the Suns advance, largely because the Jazz have a better record against them this year and because the Jazz haven't won in San Antonio since 1998.  Oh, and because the Spurs already have several rings and because I like to watch Steve Nash.

Back on the championship thing, I don't remember the precise stats, but it seems that the champ has been from the West almost exclusively during the last 10 years (exception of the Pistons).

Oh, and it seems that the NBA execs are not pleased with the way things have turned out, because all of the remaining teams represent small TV markets.  Hmm.

We'll see how things turn out -- the first quarter last night looked decent, but....

Jazz are great fun to watch. They can play fast, they can play slow. They play hard and they play rough but I haven't seen them play dirty even when their opponent did. And, not one of them, to my knowledge, has made a public idiot of themselves.
