Bernie Madoff And Ken Lay

History is always applicable in every current situation their is. And history should be considered in the issue of Mr. Bernie "I'm A Thief" Madoff. And he is not a remarkable thief; he is just a common thief.

And I will always remember Mr. Ken "I Ripped Off Everyone At Enron" Lay and the shameless behavior he was allowed to get away with. The Ken Lay story exemplifies Americas "drug habit" for accomadating the entitled and the elite.  Normal Americans are not considered nor important in the political considerations of our entitled and elite leadership.

I worked in Corrections for 20 years. And you are not allowed to even KILL yourself if we have any indication of it. In Corrections you will be put into a cell and you will be put into clothes that are designed in a way that you cannot commit suicide. These outfits successfully stop you from committing suicide. It's against Corrections Department policy to be able to commit suicide. And this would be the case in most state Corrections Departments across America.

So to be clear Bernie should not be allowed to just do what Ken Lay did. If you remember; by Lay being allowed to "check out" all to most of his money was passed on to his wife. So Ken got away with it. The crime he committed and the stealing of all those innocent Americans money was allowed to benefit his family. And Ken never had to spend the time locked up like less elite Americans would have had to.

Bernie should be locked up and on suicide watch just like the Nazi leadership was after the end of WWII and during the Nuremburg trials. They were watched and not allowed suicide and then they were hung; just like Ken Lay should have been and like Bernie Madoff should be now. Make an example out of the thief Bernie Madoff.

It's not the common working person that caused this recent financial calamity in America. It's people like Ken Lay and Bernie Madoff. And if the leadership of this country is going to just accommodate these thiefs then we have a problem on our hands in America. It's just an acknowledgement that the American elite is unfairly accommodated and those of us regular  American folks are not.

Bernie Madoff is being given time to do what he knows is the only thing left for him to do; kill himself. And that would be a bigger travesty when you think about it because we would lose the opportunity to do what is , after all , right to do. That would be to lock his ass up forever and to make an example of him for all the entitled and elite people to see. But alas all that will happen is that the "rich folks" will take care of themselves just like they always have. Remember Ken Lay.

Excellent commentary.

I'm not sure if Ken Lay committed suicide or was murdered or fled the country. I know he spent a lot of time in Switzerland in the mid-90s so maybe someone should check around.

I'm pretty darned sure J. Cliff Baxter didn't commit suicide, either.

Enron is still one of the best examples of corporate America gone bad but a lot of what Enron was up to was never disclosed in the media.

Here's one example. In June or July 2000, Enron announced that it had entered into a joint venture with the Palestinians to build a badly needed power plant in Gaza.

In September 200, the Intifada went into full swing when Ariel Sharon "visited" the mosque above Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Sharon was clearly provoking the Palestinians.

Are the two issues connected? Did either of them have anything to do with the 2000 presidential election? I know James A. Baker and Edward Djernian visited with the heads of state of Syria and Lebanon in June 2000 and I don't think it was at President Clinton's request.

I still get ticked off when I think about how the media portrayed Enron in the news. Enron's business was made out to be so complex that no one on Wall Street could have ever suspected Enron was in trouble.

As I've said many times over, that was absolute bullshit. All you have to do is take Accounting 101 and then take a look at Enron's last 10-K at the SEC website. That's the same 10-K the highly paid analysts on Wall Street looked at, too.

I agree wholeheartedly about the unfairness in this country's legal system. Lefties are always accused of being soft on crime but not this one.

I've been advocating for much stiffer sentences for white collar crime for many years. 10 years minimum, no parole, for anyone who steals more than a million dollars from government coffers sounds about right to me.

Many people don't realize how economic crime and corruption undermines the fabric of a free society. It impacts national security as well as long-term financial security. Every aspect of the quality of a person's life is affected.

I'm always asking where the rich people fill their prescriptions since everyone in the know knows the FDA is corrupt. You can bet rich people aren't going to let their kids take ersatz generics manufactured by some sleaze bag on Springfield Boulevard in Queens. Or New Delhi, for that matter.

If people had more time to get involved in government and learn about what is really going on in this country, they'd grab a pitchfork and head to DC.

Thank you for that very detailed information. It makes me curious as to what are your most used information outlets.

Mrs. P does her own research. Quite a ways back she offered a lot of info on how people can look up all sorts of info for themselves. I suspect if you click her name, and go back over past blogs, you'll be able to learn her methods and put them into practice. Good Luck!

Where does this punitive nature come from?

Guys in prison for a cnote in coke.

We need the entire system overhauled and hundreds of thousands of people let out--let out with something to do.

And white collar people need some fear in their lives to remind them of what right and wrong really means.

Is it possible that many of Madoff's clients will secretly get some of their investment money back from Madoff after they are bailed out by the taxpayers? Like if the money is stashed overseas?

There is something to that smirk of his, and that would be the ultimate con.

I had forgotten about Baxter.
