Liz Cheney's Jesus Radar

Liz Cheney is on Andrea Mitchell's show on MSNBC right now doing her best to tear down Obama's impressive address in Cairo today.

Among the many things she finds "troubling" - Obama's comment that women who choose (keyword - choose!) to wear hijabs are exercising their right to equality. In a rather rambling criticism, Cheney says that "'if you looked at the audience [at Cairo University], you could tell many of the women who weren't covering their heads were Christian."

Really, Liz? And how can you tell that by looking at someone? Was it the lack of a hijab, even though not all Muslim women wear one, or are you alluding to something else?

Argh. As Ashley, another TPM intern put it: She must be able to tell by her "Jesus love radar."

CNN has had experts in Muslim-American relations and the heads of key Muslim organizations and councils on all day to give their response to Obama's speech - so far, MSNBC has had Liz Cheney on. Twice.

(To be fair, they've also had Richard Haass on twice, the author featured in next week's book club...but the amount of Cheney still frustrates me.)

I saw that interview Versha. But I didn't quite grasp what was going on. One reason is that I may have developed an internal Cheney-blocker, similar to a popup blocker, but it's located in my mind. It filters out Cheneys.

So what I saw was Andrea Mitchell seemingly interviewing no one.

That sounds amazing. If you can patent that and sell it, I would totally buy.

'Cheney says that "'if you looked at the audience [at Cairo University], you could tell many of the women who weren't covering their heads were Christian."

SEEMS LIKE A FAIR QUESTION! HA-HAH!

And her line, "Obama is holding hands with terrorists". Is she possibly that incredibly stupid? Really?

Who went waltzing hand-in-hand with the Saudi prince, from whence came almost all of the 9/11 hijackers and from whom the funding for terrorism flows?

Unbelievable. I was completely annoyed with MSNBC's coverage today: Mrs. Greenspan didn't like the half-answer Amy Klobuchar was allowed to give before being cut off by Andrea, so she tried to direct her to answer to a more agreeable anti-Obama stance (Didn't work. Go, Amy!). And Liz Cheney - twice. Then there was Contessa Brewer extolling the virtues of driving her pick-up truck all over New York City. Do you need that much cargo space to haul your false eyelashes?

And now they've hired Jeff Rosen, whose 'anonymous sources' are the sole fodder for the right wing attacks on Sotomayor. He tried to walk it back, but a decent journalist wouldn't have had to do that.

Who the hell is Liz Cheney to be seriously interviewed on ANYTHING? She is more articulate than the Bush girls; in fact she weaves words pretty cleaverly, just like her papa. Unfortunately they are both liars and scum, but at least the old man was VP! She is being interviewed as though she has some gravitas!

She has the audacity to say what she would have "prefered" our President to say...in HIS speech! I am so sick of her getting so much air-time, and I am disappointed that Mitchell didn't have a clip ready of Cheney saying that Saddam Houssain was in on 911. I mean if 911 is the reason we attacked Iraq, WTF?

Oh, and about the head scarfs. I guess her point is that if christians can be identified by NOT being covered, and therefore have some negative consequences in Egypt; she would have our President go over and advocate to keep muslim women from wearing a scarf?

She is so blind in her hatred she didn't realize what he was doing -- he was making the point that if a woman CHOOSES to wear the scarf it does not hinder her or make her less equal; but denying education to girls DOES take away their chance at equality. It was a very clever way to make his point but it went right over her head.

Why is it that the networks always seem to latch onto the daughters of Republicans (Maureen Reagan, Meghan McCain, Liz Cheney), and pretend they have some special insight into everything from foreign policy, to constitutional theory?
