What's Wrong With Us
OK, I know some of you are sick of me playing town crier regarding a
certain person in our midst, and I promise this will be the last such
post from me. By all means move along to another post now if you
like. For anyone who is interested, though, please take a look at the
comment I have linked to below, in which that certain someone makes a
definitive statement regarding all of her "tormentors" here at TPM.
She has determined that we all have a "commonality". As always, she is
too cowardly to come right out and say the words, so you must read the
entire comment, especially the final 2 paragraphs, to get clued in to what she is saying. Our problem, folks, is that we are all Dirty Jews.

"They define freedom as that to practice all manner of licentious and depraved sexual behavior."
Frankly Froggy, I take it where I can get it.
If you note any chance of this, please tell me where it is so that I can clean up and get ready.

Have suspicion our friend may have already morphed from S to R to... Y. We'll see.

So, what IS wrong with us?
I don't get it.
Shouldn't this blog be named: What's wrong with her?
I guess part of what's wrong with us, is that you just posted another blog asking about her.
Maybe you should just ask: "What's wrong with me?"

Indeed. It's as if tt is pimping for the ignorant bigot poster.

Quinn, you may be right - or maybe it's just more pinheads coming in to pee in the sandbox - R is still ragging on everyone (including you) on my post from yesterday:

Looks like mistaken identity TT. Not the R troll, which should go away shortly, I suspect. But Yikes. Check his post for explanation. Cheers.

I can't answer the question 'What's wrong with us?", That's kinda open ended. But I do recognize at least part of what's wrong with you.
Someone can make an innocuous comment on infrastructure policy and you are somehow able to find 'racism, homophobia, bigotry, and ignorance' hidden somewhere in it.
What's wrong with you, as far as this forum is concerned, is you're possibly neurotic with a heavy overlay of paranoia.
Honestly, be a little introspective and seriously consider if you need just a bit of help. It's nothing to be ashamed of. It's happened in my family a couple of times. It's generally better to get on top of these things as early as possible before it begins being destructive in really meaningful ways in your life. Good luck, and the best to you.

R,
Once again, I refuse to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
Make a real contribution or just go the hell away.
Your current situation is 0-2, 2 outs bottom of the 9th. And you are just "TAKING" all the way.

Nighty night, you little Nazi pinhead - kiss, kiss! May you dream sweet 'n' sweaty dreams of engaging in your favorite "depraved" sexual act with one of those hunky "Jew" deviants.

May I say, tt, that I am NOT sick - in the least - of your courage in taking on the role of "town crier." I applaud you.
Yes, I could actually see that thread of similar bigotry in my blog yesterday. The attack against us all, as if we were all descendents of a certain religious cultural background - and the disgust for that background. But I think it's more of a mixture of bigotries - as if we are some group of perverts (I gotta laugh because truly I am about as far from perverted as you could get... then again... tolerance is apparently now a perversion - yee, gods!).
The more I learn of this, the sillier it all sounds, since there is nothing in the posts or comments but spewing of the most disgusting sort without any thread of reason or logic or discernible assumptive world.
Write as many blogs as you need to here! That's my view of it! You're sane. You're courageous. I'm with you!

Thanks, TheraP! I really think this will be my last tango with 'renaye' (at least in the form of a post). I'm confident that her tiny little head will explode soon or she will do something so revolting that she will get herself banned. What she won't do is have the courage to actually air her white power agenda explicitly.

In the end these 'persons' don't come here to exchange ideas, knowledge, or anything else of value. Their real lives are filled with impotence in every sense of the word. The effect they see in our reaction to their comments gives them a sense of power woefully missing from their personal lives. I've always tried to assume someone is genuine here, but these recent commenters have made me realize that there is no upside in even engaging them. As such, I've stopped even reading a comment of someone I've personally identified as a troll. It's a shame, but I do not have the patience to argue with someone so willfully obtuse and if i read the comment, I'm drawn into engaging them by my sense of outrage. I suggest to others if you do not refrain from reading such comments, refrain from commenting in response. If you read a comment you feel violates the user rules here, then by all means comment, and hit the report abuse button. If I see one of the regular/non-troll users commenting on a known troll, I do read those comments, and if the comment indicates particularly offensive remarks in the troll's post, I'll read that post and report the abuse. Were I to post a new blog given these current circumstances, I would not feel shy about including a disclaimer at the end of the post admonishing readers to not feed the trolls, and would probably name the names of known trolls. My 2 cents for what it's worth.

I too find it much easier to simply skip over those I too have identified as just here to distract and annoy. Why waste my time? I give my time to those who are honestly searching and offering food for discussion (not argument or put-downs).
So, yes, amigo... I'm with you!

You are a hypocrite... Take a look at this post you made where you are judge and jury:
Let's summarize:
1) You claim I didn't engage in behavior of the other poster yet. (How nice!)
2) Then if I continue my good behavior, you will welcome me.
3) But in the meantime, you are going to link me with the other posters anyway. Until such time as you are "convinced".
I have talked with black folks who have told me that they prefer the overt racism in the South which is a bit more honest than the cover racism they find in the North. Because when something is out in the open, at least you can deal with it.
Your argument amounts to the same thing. Go take a look at my "crimes". I disagreed with an assertion of Marquis, who then makes a pompous attack on me that happens to backfire.
Or CVille Dem who assumes if I call out the Democrats I must be a Republican. I guess that makes Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky Republicans too, right?
You guys have a nice racket going on here. Whine and bitch and moan about the Republicans. But when someone from the left of you, comes on board, they aren't good either. As a group, some of you people sound like the the Northern racists, you like your club and you just hide your prejudices better.
Call me a troll if you like based on speculation alone. I think that speaks volumes about your notions of inclusion and wiling to discuss ideas.

I've been called 'troll' from day one Yikes.
I've since learned to regard it as a badge of honor. If you'll patiently follow the dialog, you'll realize 'troll' conveys a lot of respect with the rank and file posters here who are generally quite rational.
Of course that's minus this small, vocal, cadre of whining imbecile losers you read here. Ignore them, in time you'll realize they really don't even have a firm understanding of the positions they espouse.
I believe that to be the reason they're so reactive when they feel they've been compromised.
The very warmest of welcomes to you here to TPM Yikes, enjoy it!!!

You can pretty much always count on me to support the "let them come here and there ideas will fail," line on these kinds of matters. Heck, during the primaries the Cafe was overrun by trolls to such an extent that I think even Josh Marshall got called one a few times a week.
People who aren't interested in what we have to talk about, or who aren't interested in debate, will generally go away at some point.
But the TOS has certainly been violated here. The post where it calls homosexuals "deviats" (sic) is reason enough to ban it. We're not allowed to use slurs and "deviat" (sic) is a slur.
I'd love for more Republicans and principled conservatives to comment here, we have had some good ones. But this is not an example of a visiting conservative this is somebody trying to use our community as a forum for hate speech and that's what the TOS is meant to prevent.

Evidently you didn't pursue your education very far. 'Deviant' is a medical term. It's science, get it? But it'sa term probably not often used in kindergarten.
February 1, 2009 11:02 AM | Reply | Permalink
Please produce a contemporary scholarly citation from a peer reviewed medical or psychological journal that would use the word "Deviant," or as you'd have it, "Deviat" as an acceptable term for homosexuality.
"Mongoloid" used to be an acceptable medical term too. You don't much see it used these days.
But, thanks for playing. :)

Well Destor...her whole point of reference seems to be a fundamentalist Christian one. Which is one based on unprovable beliefs, sans empirical data which says anyone who does not accept this unprovable dogma as 'truth' are in fact deviant.
And BTW I might want to add Christians of the past thought Inquisitions and Crusades were not only defensible but justifiable and responsible actions to take. Actually that kinda sounds like the mindset of the people running our government for the previous 8 years...

Hiya Destor!!! Always a pleasure...I see you haven't changed one bit. 8-)
Thanks man, I took a bit of a needed break. Soaking in all the good vibes of our presidential inauguration brought. I really didn't have much more to add at the time. Happy and proud. I missed the great peeps here like you, Jan, JohnW, oleeb, Dan and many, many others in my absence.
But now as the challenges of actually doing the nation's business are facing us collectively, and fending off conservatives who want to preserve the way things have been run (or more aptly 'run into the ground'), my hibernation is over. ;-)
All is good with you I hope.

Everything is great. Got a promotion at work, engaged to a wonderful woman, ran the NYC marathon and am right now having a fun Sunday afternoon of sipping wine, blogging and writing a short musical.
Glad to see you back and we do have work to do. I'm really optimistic right now...

Congrats on the promotion and most importantly your engagement!!!
Yeah, I am hopeful too. Just gotta make sure the D's avoid any of the potential pitfalls which have tripped 'em up in the past when making their decisions this time. But the election of Obama by 'we the people' did something that no politician could do on their own...elevate the US to a position of global leadership again. YES WE CAN!!!

Silver and Gold? Well I am a big fan of the electric guitar and, imho, that song is an outstanding example of good playing of that instrument, lol. I'd love to get the lowdown on that tale. A fan of QSM? Don't know how much longer I'll be there though.
Warner Music got their panties all in a bunch and many of us and our videos are being told to leave and not come back because of it. I've lost 30% of my videos...
