Most Dangerous President Ever

I have had it up to HERE with W, and I happily ignored his speech last night.  I did, however, read about it in the WaPo today.  The following quote jumped out at me, singed my eyebrows and nose hair, poked me in the eye, raised my blood pressure several points and gave me liver damage.

"I have often spoken to you about good and evil," he said. "This has made some uncomfortable. But good and evil are present in this world, and between the two there can be no compromise."

This from a man who pushed for and authorized the actualization of his revenge fantasies - the torture, humiliation and degradation of detainees.  A man who does not recognize the most basic and fundamental legal right - habeas corpus.  A man who proclaimed it his perogative to designate persons of his choosing enemy combatants and detain them indefinitely without charges.  A man who scorned the Constitution, the rule of law, and any international obligations he didn't particularly care for.  A man who lied and lied and lied to all of us over and over again, to justify an unjustifiable war in which more than a hundred thousand human beings have died and at least as many have been permanently maimed physically and psychologically.  A man who continues to lie and lie and lie as he parades himself as our noble protector.

I am sickened by this ignorant man who has made me feel ashamed to be governed by a pack of cynical, paranoid, heartless criminals.  He has been our most dangerous president ever, a clear and present danger to all that we hold dear.  We are lucky to have survived his terms in office with no more grievous damage than we have already sustained.

This just shows the low level, the stunted quality of this man's moral reasoning. Children may think only in the level of black and white. But responsible adults more often see shades of gray. Because in the difficult situations, there is often no clear answer - without careful teasing out of competing values and concerns. People like bush become "one issue voters," imagining that by ruling out certain kinds of people or behaviors (it's nearly always ruling them out, isn't it) that they can "rid" the world of evil and be assured that leaders who mouth certain words will keep them safe from the demons they fear.

bush is a child. and a naughty one at that. a demanding little emperor - without the clothing of temperance or wisdom or compassion and so many other signs of moral goodness.

Thanks for drawing our attention to this. It certainly validates the point of my blog on ethics (the antithesis of bush):

Thank you, TheraP, for your many eloquent commentaries on these ethical issues. Yes, Bush is morally and psychologically stunted and has surrounded himself with others who are similarly lacking. He rails against evil while he blindly perpetrates it and drags us all down into a lower realm. Now that he is almost out the door, this is hitting me with more force than ever before. I am sickened. But I am optimistic about what is to come (Obama and company). Like you, I am very happy about Dawn Johnsen.

user-pic

Her name is prescient, is it not? As is Barack's. His means "blessing."

Yes, the contrast is such a yawning gap as to astound! I think bush felt obliged to run around and try to put out fires the past couple of weeks out of both jealousy and fear. Even he must notice that cavernous fissure and the way in which the public is thrilled to see the transition take place.

The presence of trolls on your blog is a sure sign that you have hit a nerve! Just keep going with your dental drill!

user-pic

;-]

user-pic

I think George W. Bush is a scoundrel and a fool.

I try not to be surprised by things scoundrels and fools say.

user-pic

Yeah,!! the most dangerous president ever!!!

Just ask any of the few surviving terrorists you sympathize with so much!!! They'll readily attest!!! From what I hear, our boys killed 'em by the tens of thousands!!!! Most dangerous president ever!!!!Yeah

user-pic

Just on the outside chance that you are actually saying something you believe, I would like to understand your reasoning. Are you saying that I sympathize with terrorists because I believe in honoring the Constitution and the legal protections it mandates?

user-pic

Mark my word. None, not a single one, of the Bush policies regarding our dealings with Islamic terrorists, or Bush policies in soutwestern Asia, will be changed. They will all be adopted intact. In six months, take a count of policies which have changed. That number will be zero.

user-pic

You won't be here in six months because you will be too mortified at how wrong you are.

user-pic

What policy?
There have been peace initiatives and preemptive military operations. None of them have brought about the conditions that were advertised during their promotion.
While a lot of terrorist have been killed, the United States has become absorbed by countless intractable conflicts while steadily losing the political power needed to create a response to why the terrorist are there.
The Cheney administration makes their way to the turnstiles with their heads held high and their profits held tight. They leave thousands of IOUs for the next administration to sort through. It will certainly take more than six months to restore the formation of policy after such an orgy of feckless expenditure.

user-pic

tt, nice to meetcha. w does not have a clue. He will never read one percent of the truths that have been written about him. To his dying day, he will believe that he led the forces of good against the forces of evil.

user-pic

Thanks, dd! God save us from self-righteous tyrants with no self-awareness.

user-pic

w stated, "...But good and evil are present in this world, and between the two there can be no compromise." So we should follow this through.

Satan is evil. Satan in the Prince of Lies. Bush Lied. Bush is Evil. There can be no compromise.

It's geometric!!!

user-pic

"I have often spoken to you about good and evil," he said. "This has made some uncomfortable. But good and evil are present in this world, and between the two there can be no compromise." - W

The arrogance reflected in just the parental tone alone makes we want to scratch my eyeballs out. Combine that with this typically childish message and the 100 on good day delivery it's just too much for me to handle.

The thing taken as a whole is a disgusting mixed metaphor; a childish message delivered in a parental tone.

Who the fuck does he think we are?

user-pic

He apparently thinks we are as stupid as he is, and seems to think he is Preacher-in-Chief.

Bush has driven me mad for years. I really tried to give him the benefit of the doubt at the beginning of his first term. I don't remember the specific incident/issue that pushed me over the edge, but I do remember yelling at my TV: "THE HONEYMOON IS OVER!!!"

user-pic

Regan drove me over the edge. Here was a B-movie actor whom I best remembered as the Old Prospector character from the TeeVee Death Valley Days series, and he was elected president. And he had an ex-CIA Director as his VP. It was all wrong. His senior moment gaffes endeared him to comedians, and he did not quite start a nuclear war with the USSR. His dementia allowed the VP to quietly assume the office. That VP was subsequently elected to serve another four years as president, joined by the silliest VP in history. His hopes for reelection failed when the voters decided to go with the smart guy instead of the stupid one.
W was worse, I concede. Because not only was he stupid enough to make people suspect dain bramage, but he allowed himself to be surrounded by profoundly evil advisors who were eager to make up for time lost on their agenda when the smart guy was president.
George Walker (may he never run again) Bush, the President from Hell.

user-pic

"But good and evil are present in this world, and between the two there can be no compromise." That is why I voted against Bush.

user-pic

The whining liberals just can't get enough.

What will you all do when Obama takes office on Tuesday?

Will Olberman be forced to cancel his show??

I can only pray that he and Rachel will be off the air because they won't have anything new to talk about.

user-pic

The "whining liberals?" Did you catch Bush's last press conference when he was talking about being popular? He sounded like a pimple-faced teenager justifying why he TP'd the lawn of the football captain! Katrina? He couldn't even admit the failure that is documented in sad and pathetic film for all to see; no, he whines about helicopter "drivers" (pilots, Georgie) who rescued 30,000 people (who were on their roofs for days).

Then he whined about 911 and how people wondered why no one prevented it. Imagine that! Preventing something that he was warned about A MONTH IN ADVANCE in a paper entitled, "BinLadin Determined to Attack Inside the US," but hey -- he was on vacation!

Don't talk about whining liberals unless you want some facts about your childish, whining, incompetent boob of an outgoing (thankfully) president!

user-pic

If Obama got a PDB on his first day that said "Al Qaeda is going to attack the US" - do you think he would be able to stop it? Is that enough information to know?

user-pic

You are so intentionally obtuse that I can't stand feeding your trollishness! However:

BUSH'S RESPONSE TO THE PDB WAS, "OK. NOW YOU'VE COVERED YOUR ASS." THEN HE WENT OUT TO PLAY GOLF!

NOTHING WAS DONE IN RESPONSE TO THE WARNING! NOTHING!

Yes. I do think Obama would react.
No, I don't think he would send planes with the family of the perpetrator safely out of the country as Americans were not allowed to fly home to their loved ones.
No, I do not think he would invade the wrong country in response to an attack!

That's it. I am done with you.

user-pic

Trollishness? It's funny how anyone on this site who disagrees with the Left's point of view is labeled a "troll". (As an aside - is there a name I can call people on the Left that post crazy things like Bush could have prevented 9/11??

But now you're changing the subject and talking about things he did after 9/11.

The playing golf point is really silly. (Are you Michael Moore in disguise? Did you just watch Fahrenheit 9/11? I bet you own the DVD). Clinton played golf and took vacations, and so will Obama.

user-pic

Troll, no, obtuse, yes.

It is not simply the PDB, it is the direction of emphasis, detailed by Richard Clarke. Bush's admin deliberately ignored the warnings, did not act to motivate a response, and had an agenda that precluded concentrating on AQ.

user-pic

Bill,
Speaking of DVD's, you might want to pick up a copy of "No End in Sight".

You just might find it interesting. It is made by republicans and interviews the very same republicans that GWB assigned to rebuild Iraq. You might give their words more consideration than us on the "loony left".

user-pic

Here is a synopsis for you:

The first film of its kind to chronicle the reasons behind Iraq’s descent into guerilla war, warlord rule, criminality and anarchy, NO END IN SIGHT is a jaw-dropping, insider’s tale of wholesale incompetence, recklessness and venality. Based on over 200 hours of footage, the film provides a candid retelling of the events following the fall of Baghdad in 2003, featuring high ranking officials such as former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Ambassador Barbara Bodine (in charge of Baghdad during the Spring of 2003), Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell, and General Jay Garner (in charge of the occupation of Iraq through May 2003) as well as Iraqi civilians, American soldiers, and prominent analysts. NO END IN SIGHT examines the manner in which the principal errors of U.S. policy – the use of insufficient troop levels, allowing the looting of Baghdad, the purging of professionals from the Iraqi government, and the disbanding of the Iraqi military – largely created the insurgency and chaos that engulf Iraq today. How did a group of men with little or no military experience, knowledge of the Arab world or personal experience in Iraq come to make such flagrantly debilitating decisions? NO END IN SIGHT dissects the people, issues and facts behind the Bush Administration’s decisions and their consequences on the ground to provide a powerful look into how arrogance and ignorance turned a military victory into a seemingly endless and deepening nightmare of a war.

CVille Dem

You've got to admit that PDB was pretty vague.

user-pic

However vague , the very fact that the information was presented to him in that format was a signal to him of the importance the CIA attached to it.

At a minimum he should have asked Condi to comment and that might have been sufficient to cause her to arrange for the prinicipals meeting which Clarke had requested months earlier.

user-pic

Well, personally, I don't think "Bin Ladin Determined to Attack in US" vague, as a title to a CIA briefing. Seems pretty specific, actually. I guess George just likes the kind of specificity he got from torturing people. I'm sure THOSE statements were REALLY specific, since the tortuees probably said the exact words the torturers supplied.

But even if you find the title vague, even you would have to admit it shouldn't have been completely ignored.

user-pic

Not for the first time , I didn't get it and took the vague comment at face value.

I'm in the market for bridges , do you have one for sale?

user-pic

Watch and learn, MCB, how democracy works. There will be no glassy eyed agreement with everything Obama does. You've been here long enough to know we will not walk in goose step and apologize profusely when Obama slips up. We've already challenged his pick for invocation. There are those here not happy that Hillary is SoS, but most will agree to see how she turns out.

Watch and learn. Democrats are not a bunch of bobble-headed dolls bent on instituting pure socialism the way the Reich fought so hard for the free market until it self-destructed as it did in the 1930s. We admit our mistakes and we learn from them. We do not expel people for having different views, we expect them to defend themselves and, if a position is indefensible, we change our course.

The Presidency if George W. Bush is indefensible, IMHO. He was a train wreck that took eight years to finally come to an end. This country is so tired of him they can barely watch his Farewell Address or take much interest in his Legacy Tour. I'm not talking about the strong personalities that blog about politics. I'm talking about those other plumbers who are sick of his BS. Tired of people attacking the ones who call Bush on his BS. They are ready for change and seeking hope. If the tenor of the voices on this blog are any indication, we are not expecting him to do it all. We are ready to clean up the mess.

user-pic

Low Class Bill is immune to both observation and learning from that observation.

user-pic

GregorZap...well said and defended. You are now on my personal local, vocal hero list.

user-pic

Please somebody, just post his new address so we can all mail the shoes... dirty, smelly ones!

Thank you, Gregor Zap for your stirring comment!

user-pic

The WSJ says it better than I could.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123206685391388221.html

user-pic

Oh plesae - Richard Clarke? I guess he'll do whatever to sell books. He said back in the late '90s that Iraq and al Qaeda were connected. Remember the bombing of the US embassies in Iraq.

He's changed his mind so many times and contradicted himself. I'm surprised you're using Clarke as your source

user-pic

Right back at you re the WSJ!

user-pic

Not sure I get your comment about the WSJ...What's wrong with posting an article from the WSJ?

user-pic

Is Rupert Murdock more legitimate than Richard Clark?

user-pic

Cosign.

user-pic

Rupert Murdoch versus Richard Clarke is a silly comparison. The WSJ has had basically the same editorial board since before Murdoch bought the paper (ie Paul Gigot).

Clarke (like I said before) has been all over the place and will say anything to sell his book. A lot of things happened on his watch and he started contradicting himself. He tried to create a new reality that would hopefully legitimize his own legacy of failure
