39% in the US think Obama deserved Nobel prize. 52% side with the Taliban (poll)

According to a poll conducted by PoliticsHome, a firm created in 2008, "launched in association with Pollster.com," according to the website.
In the UK, 62% think he did not deserve it, versus 22% who do.

PoliticsHome interviewed 1430 adults in the US, and 1303 adults in the UK, by email between 9-11 October 2009. Results are weighted by party ID to reflect the both countries at large.

*Before Obama cultists whose feelings may be hurt by this poll pooh pooh PoliticsHome for being obscure and insignificant, have in mind that the prestigious Mark Blumenthal, a life-long Democrat, trusts them:

*the Taliban part is a joke, of course, but according to DNC logic, it's true.

This "win" had nothing to do with merit.

It was an attempt to produce behavior in Obama (i.e. policy) that left-wing Europeans want.

Glen Beck, God help him, actually had the best punchline on this: I won an Oscar for the movie I have yet to make.

My stars; it's Lalo! Where ya been?
Or: As Michael Steel says: "Whatup?'

Funny title. :-)

Our tiny town's Chamber of Commerce gives a "Citizen of the Year" award; some have been highly dubious and very ironic, of course. They are so deep into scraping the bottom of the barrel that lately, when I send in the nominating form printed in the paper, I beg them to retire the award. I don't think they care for my idea, at least so far. Guess they figure they might get it one day...
Polls could ask more questions:
Which recipients do you believe DID deserve their medals?
Should politicians be ineligible? (hat-tip: readytoblowagasket.)

I'd do a push-poll, too: Was recipient Mother Theresa (please pronounce her damned name correctly, if nothing else--it ain't Ter-eee-sa)
deserving since she vehemently opposed both birth control and pregnancy termination?

Any additions to the Push-Poll? Come on!

I'd be interested to see how many Americans even know the basis for the award. The determinate issue was nuclear proliferation. There are an awful lot of people who can't help but bring up the non sequitur of Afghanistan or whatever. That's a product of American ignorance, not a lack of deserving on Obama's part.

Folks are acting like the award means something it doesn't.

You forgot to add that you think the British are even more ignorant.

I don't necessarily dispute this characterization ... have you ever read the comments on their web sites (in general, haven't bothered to look on this particular non-issue)? The concept of international ignorance is not without merit.

Just as with the Democratic primaries - He won!

Just as with the General Election - He won!

Just as with the Nobel Peace Prize - He won!

In the end, all of these events are over. Your vote was either already counted or not needed. Let's all move on. His critics and opponents can get ready for another round when he goes to accept the prize. I'm sure there will be a "The President goes to accept prize he doesn't deserve while America has high unemployment, two wars, etc, etc." and some more bullshit in the crowd. Those won't matter either, because he won!

I'm not criticizing anyone for thinking he doesn't deserve it, but I suspect that there is 30% of this country and about 50% of Pundit-Americans who would STILL react the same way even if Obama had received it years from now AND achieved his foreign policy goals.

Yeah and this isn't GREAT for our foreign policy and prestige. That's a bad thing to the dolts who think we should tell the rest of the world to f off, but to sane people it's actually a GOOD thing.

I might be wrong but I'm 95% sure OBAMA said he "didn't deserve it" in his speech. There's no controversy here for people who understand what the award is (and who has received it in the past).

And things like this go a LONG way in re-establishing our credibility in the world, except of course when the rest of the world wonders why our people are so unpatriotic (at worse) or classless at best.

The correct response is "congratulations."

the Taliban part is a joke, of course, but according to DNC logic, it's true.

A little honesty might provide an air of credibility to your post.

If the Taliban think it is a joke and the 52% believe it is a joke, it is irrelevant what party one prefers, they are on the same side in this instance. That is a fact, not some DNC logic, but perfectly logical. Does it mean the 52% are living in Afghanistan/Pakistan and fighting the American military presence? No, but that was not the question.
