Liberal columnist to Obama: Follow Bob Dole's advice

In a piece titled "A cake knife is useless in a gunfight," Gene Lyons of Salon.com says he likes Bob Dole's recent suggestion to President Obama. Said Dole: ""Obama's approval numbers would jump 10 points if Americans knew he was fully in charge."

Like Dole, when I ask myself the question of  "who's in charge," several candidates come to mind,  and Obama isn't one of them:
  • Olympia Snowe (Because of her, in part, the stimulus got watered down, and Obama is said to be debating a "trigger" option because Snowe likes it);

  • Republicans  (They have successfully controlled the message).

  • The health industry (and the money-saving deals it was able to negotiate with the White House and their influence on key centrist congressmen).

We probably need to remember Dole lost (so did his wife), and that spokesperson for Viagra is a bit of a comedown. He did get to speak for Pepsi with Britney Spears.

Dole, apparently not expecting to see Bush, when asked the same question about the Vice President said "Yeah, stop lying about my record"; largely in response to a very tough New Hampshire Bush commercial which accused Dole of "straddling" on taxes. This remark prompted some members of the media to perceive him as angry about the loss, contributing to his "hatchet man" image earned during his tenure as RNC chairman and the '76 campaign.

Having experienced the agony of the "I am the decider" President, I'm willing to suffer the risks of distributed power, myself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2Zv1T4Qdv4

I should also note that this advice from Robert Dole is prominent in the Wall Street Journal too....anything which the WSJ recommends I find deeply suspicious. Even if columnist Jerry Seib has a beard.

"...and that spokesperson for Viagra is a bit of a comedown." Do you know how funny that line is?

NOW I do. :-)

Bob Dole is one of the grown up sane Republicans. He is one of the few that I trust to put his country first and offer sound advice over small minded partisanship.
