"Progressive Conservative" columnist disappointed with Sotomayor pick
Crossposted in Democraticunderground.com:
I kid you not.
Today, the blog of Yahoo News (link) quotes some columnist of the Dallas Morning News, described as a "progressive conservative," as saying that Sotomayor is no Sandra O'Connor (As if anyone is claiming otherwise):
I know what you're thinking:
What the f*@# is a "progressive conservative" and why in the world would we need another centrist in a predominantly conservative court?
And isn't this a blog for Yahoo News? Why are we being told what one of the perhaps thousands of opinion columnists in the nation has to say? What kind of news is that?
This must be among the crappiest pieces written in a while.

A few questions for William McKenzie, a progressive conservative columnist for The Dallas Morning News...
...I'm sure most Republicans who look at her, would think she's not the best nominee. But what do they expect? Obama won. I would have liked him to pick another O'Connor. I don't see her at all being a Sandra Day O'Connor and going back and forth and helping the court find the center. Kennedy is the only justice who does that, and that's a shame. I'd like to see more justices who could help us find the center in a center-left era. I don't see Sotomayor being that person, but I may be wrong.

I guess I'd rather have a judge that might, conceivably, go off the rails every once in a while (Sotomayor) than a justice that might, conceivably, go on the rails every once in a while (O'Conner). But that's just me.

Keep in mind that Yahoo News is InteretSpeak for Associated Press. That should clear it up for you.

Jesus, I miss the days when "centrist" meant your politics were in the center of the nation's population bell curve rather than the center of the range of opinions represented on Meet the Press.
