Take note, Maureen Dowd: A new juicy sexual-political rumor has gone mainstream

I personally dislike gossip, but a juicy rumor of the type Maureen Dowd loves the most (sexually related and concerning a female Democratic New York figure) just went mainstream, prompting me to e-mail Maureen Dowd, as she may consider it potential material for her column.

The New York Post noted today that rumor has it that Caroline Kennedy, who has had a rocky relationship with her husband for a long time, has been "linked" to New York Times' publisher Arthur Sulzberger. The reference to the rumor appeared earlier this afternoon in the New York Post, but has now been deleted from the most recent update of the article; however, NBC in New York picked it up:

A source told the Daily News that "she was facing some potentially embarrassing personal issues"  regarding her tax history and employment of a nanny. Another potential problem involved her marriage to Edward Schlossberg, who decided he didn't want her to move to Washington, according to a source quoted by the News.

"He basically said it would destroy the marriage if she moved to D.C.," said the source.

The New York Post also raised the marriage issue, saying that gossip columns have reported for more than a year that Kennedy's marriage to Schlossberg was essentially over. The Post also pointed out that the gossip site Gawker.com has reported rumors linking her to New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger.

Can't wait to read more details in Dowd's next column.

If true, it may clarify her "personal reasons" for dropping out of the running for NY Senate.

Thanks for delivering the scoop, even though you personally dislike gossip! ;-]

Hey, my emoticon got severed - that hurts!

Maureen Dowd? Isn't this Cindy Adam's beat?

I think Cindy Adams has mentioned it under "blind items," long before Caroline was up for the Senate seat. Something about a politically connected NY socialite cheating on her husband. If I wasn't so damn lazy, I'd try to look it up. I just remember thinking at the time that it was probably Caroline.

The fun thing about gossip is you don't have to know what you're talking about - you just keep spreading it around and embellish it along the way.

Psst. Did you hear that Michelle Obama's pregnant. One of the tabloids is "reporting" it.

I wondered the same thing about Michelle Obama recently! I think. Or was it Campbell Brown? Maybe it was David Axelrod. I dunno, I forget.

Maureen Dowd revels in gossip about the sexual activities and proclivities of prominent male Democrats. She's not going to say a peep about this rumor, because it's a woman in question, and, she supported Kennedy.

I say leave Kennedy alone -- she's already got family problems with her uncle dying a slow death.

I'm with you on this one. The lady, in my view, is not cut out for public life. That's not a flaw. It's just simple reality. But she's better off, I think, avoiding public outcry and continuing to contribute where she can. It's possible that Obama might decide to appoint her in some capacity if he feels she can serve that way.

I like it. Good comment.

"I personally dislike gossip, but . . . ."

The "but" cancels everything before it. The fact is that you are a liar: you love gossip -- anything whatsoever -- if you can use it to debase political discourse and smear Democrats.

You're an anti-Democrat hate-spewing slug, as has long been recognized here.

What's with these perverted, sicko Democrats? When they fool around it always seems to be with a person who's not only an Adult, but also a member of the *opposite* sex! Plus, nobody is charging anybody any money in the process... not to mention the complete absence of Senatorial Pampers. I'm outraged. Hey, there aren't any healthy trysts in public bathrooms anymore, there aren't any Senate pages, nobody's stealing drugs from medical charities... this is NO FUN. It's not like the heyday of Republican Boys Gone Wild! Now THOSE were the days of Family Values, let me tell you! Ah, I'm wistful already.

Reporting on the picadillos of your boss? Doubt that Maureen will be picking that one up.

As any fool knows, this would only lead to problems in the quality of life for both the snitch and the person snitched upon. And, it remains the case even if the snitch is a big shot snitch.
