Most Democrats oppose Israeli offensive on Gaza; Republicans support it (poll)
Sixty-two percent (62%) of Republicans back Israel's decision to take military action against the Palestinians, but only half as many Democrats (31%) agree. A majority of Democrats (55%) say Israel should have tried to find a diplomatic solution first, a view shared by just 27% of Republicans.
In general. there is a virtual tie: 44% in support, to 41% against, with a few undecided.

Thank you for this info. I just do not understand why this is unless it simply represents an abhorrence for anything that is Islamic.
And I am no genius and no expert on Israel and the Palestinians but I bet you that I have read more on this subject than most Americans. If I have trouble sorting out this mess, on what basis are people rendering their opinions.
Right now I will stick with Zbig's position because he has dealt with both sides of the conflict.

46% of the voters voted for McCain...we aren't talkin' about a nation of geniuses here. I'd bet a large % of the people questioned had no idea what they were talking about.

Well duh! Just under HALF of all Americans are of below average intelligence. Ripe pickings for bullshit and manipulation. Right wingers everywhere are counting on it!

I think split is idealogical as much as anything specific to Gaza.
Republican = Hawk. Shoot first, negotiate last.
Democrat = Dove. Negotiate first, shoot last.

Republican = Negotiate for a short time, kick ass and solve the problem.
Democrat = Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate ...

Yeah, kicking ass worked SO well in Lebanon '06. Peace is just around the corner. Just a few more bombs'll do it.
How about kicking the settlers' asses out of the West Bank for starters. They're illegal but the Israeli government is afraid of the Ultras who control enough of the parliament to gum up the peace process.

Yes, the classic example is what happened in Iraq under George W. Bush.
First, we negotiated....umm on second thought, we didn't and
Secondly, we kicked ass...umm, but we are still there 5 (soon to be 6) years later and 5,000 US troops have been killed and more than 20,000 wounded.
I think what Sal Blomo really means is Republicans suck! But, he said it in a much nicer way.

Rasmussen only says this was a Survey of 1,000 Adults. Note that they are not claiming the survey was a random sampling. They do not say how this survey population was derived, nor offer an statistical breakdown of the sample to show that it is representative of the total US population. In short, given the information that Rasmussen has chosen to publish with this poll, the only proper conclusion to make is that it is crap.

The 95% level of confidence with 3% margin of error is consistent with random sampling.

what? where did they say that about this poll, and how is one supposed to believe it, even it they do state it, when they do not offer a glimpse into the methodology of choosing the survey population?
don't just throw silly words at me.

Come on, don't play dumb. The level of confidence and MOE are right there in the Rasmussen web page with the poll details. Look harder.

I have increasingly found that these sorts of surveys of Americans are a waste of time, revealing nothing new. The survey could at least be restricted to those who could find Gaza on a map. The 50 year conflict is not some new TV show or movie entertainment.
A National Geographic sponsored survey in 2005 found 70% of young Americans could not locate either Israel or Iran on a map.
