New rules to post comments in my blog

The people of TPM have begged me to let them post replies to my entries and appear to be willing to make changes to their bad posting habits in order to earn this right. The following are the comment-posting rules that are to take effect immediately after this entry is published:

1-) Three or more attacks against me, the diarist, such as "troll" will result in the discontinuation of comment-posting privileges for everyone in that thread, as these attacks make TPM a dumber place and contribute nothing to the discussion.

2-) Three comments that do not contain an argument agreeing or disagreeing with my thread, even if they are not attacks against me, will result in the discontinuation of comment-posting privileges for everyone.

3-) Three comments asking me to go somewhere else because I'm not welcome in TPM will result in the cancellation of comments for everyone in the thread, because I'm here to stay, as you may have already noticed.

4-) Any combination totaling three of the above-mentioned violations will result in the discontinuation of comment-posting privileges for everyone.

I thank you all for your willingness to be better debaters. I know it will be hard since you are not used to civilized discussion, but give it a shot.

Is this snark? If so, well done.

user-pic

No. These are the guidelines that must be followed for you to be able to post comments to my entries.

The goal is to make TPM a smarter place.

Do you disagree with any of the rules?

user-pic

As an anarchist, I have to say: fuck the rules! But, whatever gets it up for you, Bub.

user-pic

Ditto. Rules are for squares.

user-pic

Then you should have plenty. You're as square as they come. Must really hurt when you stick your head up your ass as you so often do.

user-pic

Is that what passes for creative commentary in your world?

user-pic

No. It's what passes for accurate comment, pin head.

user-pic

I think seeking a higher form of discourse on my threads is my responsibility as the blogger. My voice and comments will contribute to the vibe of the threads, so any hostility that I can't diffuse is as instructive to me as the conversations that are entirely a love fest.

I see no reason to dictate rules of behavior and am willing to slug it out for my beliefs if that what it takes to be understood. That usually comes at the end of a discussion though. I instead comment in a manner that I find agreeable and mostly polite to begin with, if still cheeky and confrontational when needed.

The blogsphere isn't for the faint of heart.

user-pic

Personally I think your rules are like hanging out a sign and saying look at me look at me. Either what you write can stand on it's own or it can't. Setting up rules for people to post comments sends a signal that it can't.

user-pic

Dude. Do whatever makes you happy.

user-pic

Whoa. What's up with my avatar?

user-pic

Testing. You are a troll. I neither agree nor disgaree with your original post, but hope you leave TPM post haste.

user-pic

Test #2: truthseeker77 is a troll.

Rules like the ones he provides are easy to game. He either now has to follow them, or risk being called a "hypocrite", since he seems to enjoy throwing that label around. (I've mentioned this several times before, but here's an interesting take on hypocrisy. Hypocrisy should be avoided, and pretending to never engage in it is probably the most blatant example of it.)

user-pic

Before the comments get turned off, good to see you Ben! I feared you'd been eaten by the bobcat or something :)

user-pic

Nah, just getting buried in effectively 3 jobs. (Finishing my dissertation, research assistant in a pscyh lab, and working for a software company.)

I really shouldn't be here now, actually, but I decided for my sanity that I needed to take a break.

Have I mentioned that truthseeker77 is a troll? And, does that count as the third strike?

user-pic

Ask not whom Ben calls troll,
he calls troll to thee.

user-pic

Still the dullest Obamanaut on TPM.

user-pic

Testing: TS77 is a troll. (I think that's four now?)

Specifically, it appears that he's a troll who also posts on freerepublic as "Kleebo151".

Some of TS77's articles are such a natural fit over on freerepublic that they show up there under the "Kleebo151" name. Check out the first two here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:kleebo151/index?tab=articles
Note that on the first, Kleebo is so familiar with TS77 that he not only links to TS77 he supplies the name "Andrew Perez" for TS77, which google tells us is what TS77 used to post under on TPM. And the second is an item that both TS77 (here) and Kleebo151 (there) posted about, with posting times less than a minute apart. If you're still not convinced, look for similar patterns of mistakes.

But Kleebo doesn't stop there. Kleebo is a freeper through and through, as you can tell from the stuff he posts. Check out these titles (my comments in square brackets): Axelrod condemns Rep. Lewis’s comments, CBS Has Horrible Transcript of Palin Interview (With video), Poll: McCain leads Obama By 3% in Michigan, ARG: McCain 48%, Obama 45% Nationally, Willie Brown: "Democrats are in trouble" [because Sarah Palin put the Democrats on defense], Sarah Palin "already has more executive experience" than Barack Obama and Joe Biden "combined, Are Things in Iraq Better? One-Third of Americans Think So (Harris poll), Abortion numbers have gone down (Obama lied), Presidential Race Draws Even-GOP Base Getting Behind McCain, Breaking news! THE PHOTOS EVERYONE'S BEEN WAITING FOR! [John Edwards and the baby in the National Enquirer], McCain is cancer-free, Why the Press Is Ignoring the Edwards "Love Child" Story?, Extra! Stop the Presses! Think Progress Lies About McCain, Ignoring Olbermann's tax debt, liberal media criticizes Cindy McCain's late home payment, etc.

Read Kleebo's comments on freeper threads, too. Things like: "This is why we should continue to remind the voter about Obama’s extremist liberalism."

Look for yourselves. See if you don't agree that TS77/Andrew Perez/Kleebo151 appears to be a real, live actual freeper troll.

Bob, the troll witch hunts are ridiculous. Even if truthseeker was a freeper, he'd be welcome to post in the Cafe I believe. I don't think anyone wants to debate all the time with people who think just like they do. There've been times when I've agreed with truthseeker in the past on a particular post and times when I disagreed.
My issue is not with contrary opinions - it is with reserving the right to curb criticism or punish posters by not allowing comments on his articles.

If all you are looking for is a one-way conversation with yourself without allowing anyone to respond directly, write a letter to the editor of a paper. Otherwise you have options in responding to people: ignore, engage on logic and facts with those who are engaging with you on that level, or flame back. Shutting off comments entirely seems like the height of scaredycatted-ness. Not that it should be prohibited to not comment. Allow folks the no comment option if they want it, but I will pay less attention to something that does not value input from other folks.

user-pic

Truthseeker77, Kleebo151, Andrew Perez: Troll.

user-pic

The real punishment is the reading of the articles...

user-pic

Bob is a lamer.

user-pic

Ahh, this explains why non-Truthseeker likes shutting down comments. Free Republic is well known for such tactics.

user-pic

Who gives a shit?

I only clicked on this to see what kind of pomposity was going down.

I think I'll starting drafting "Rules for breathing my air."

user-pic

Just take your damned football and go home already.

user-pic

Truthseeker77 = troll.

user-pic

douche

user-pic

I like rules. If there were not rules I would not have as much fun as I do breaking them.I also like inventing new words.dijamo`s new word,"scaredycatted-ness" is an excellent example of a new word."Freeper" is a new word developed by someone, likely by a left leaning blogger.Troll is not a new word, but it could be construed to be,due to its use/meaning on the net.
Ido not know whether you are a freeper or a troll, but I must say that your rules suck.

user-pic

I count 3. At least. Now what?

user-pic

Get. Over. Yourself.

user-pic

What a putz. Buh-bye.

user-pic

Oh, by the way:

While I neither agree nor disagree with you, I think at least three of us have called you a troll. And most of us wish you would go somewhere else, but we also realize you enjoy being a pain in the arse and will never leave even though only two people are interested enough to follow you and you are the only person who has recommended this idiotic post.

4-) Any combination totaling three of the above-mentioned violations will result in the discontinuation of comment-posting privileges for everyone.

Go for it.

user-pic

Troll.

user-pic

And the Somali photo was one of many examples of Hillary staffers circulating muslim smears:

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/toby_harnden/blog/2007/12/06/hillary_clinton_aide_spreads_barack_obama_muslim_smear

http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2007/12/third_clinton_v.html

But I guess "facts" don't matter in your non-fact-based world. Sort of like FoxNews, truthy faith-based bullshit that no amount of documentation can refute.

user-pic

ps Who the hell is recing this shit? I suspect 'truthinessseeker' is somehow gaming the system, since there are not enough fellow TROLLS.
