Put your hands up slowly and step away from the blog

Take it easy, no sudden moves.

It's a beautiful night sir

lift your fingertips

from those keyboard grooves.

You've said your piece

so too have they

it's over for now

no reason to stay.

Rise up from the madness

let your mind roam.

it's a beautiful night

and the angels and devils

are rushing home.

The sun is falling

no, not the sky

It's a beautiful night sir

stop wrestling with

why

why

why

so your body writhes

and your mind reels

and your life feels

like crushed crayons

and broken pinwheels

so you think you see

all you're meant to be

you think your soul

won't

ever

ever

ever

shake free

but it's not like that

not at all in fact

not on the other side of the fog

It's a beautiful night sir

Step away from the blog.

that darkness rolls deep

but it's a beautiful night sir

don't hide in your sleep

I know I know

that sadness weighs a ton

But hand to god I promise

there's poetry in the universe--

enough

for everyone

Lovely...thought-provoking, timely, and just....lovely.

user-pic

Thank you, sir. Very nicely done.

Beautifully done. But remember some of us are 3 hours earlier in hour time zone! It's like arriving at the party after everyone drank all the beverages and is passed out. Sheesh!

Goodnight, John Boy.

Beautiful poem, Gary.

user-pic

Gary, you have a true gift. Thanks.

user-pic

Nice one Gary.

user-pic

Just gorgeous really. Thank you.

As an editor in a previous life, I have to ask about "said your peace." Until I read "so have they," I assumed "peace" was intentional. Regardless, this piece is exquisitely expansive and peaceful.

user-pic

Thanks for your thoughts, Bill.

About "said your peace", I'm humble enough to admit I don't quite know what you mean. I guess maybe there's something that doesn't quite sound right or make sense, or track logically? All I meant, really, is that at the end of the day, I spoke my mind; so too have they. Maybe it's not quite grammatical? Not quite clear?

One thing I promised myself with this train of thought, which came out in the shape of rhymes, is that I wouldn't get in the way. I would just pick up the closest brush, close my eyes, and write uninterrupted, without deliberation, regardless of color or shade or stroke or arcs or sweeps or thickness or splatter or smear or splashes.

And still, it came out on the neat and clean side:)

I guess one really needs to let go to write outside the lines.

Good night and good day, Gary. Thank you. I always need a reminder to step back from the edge!

user-pic

The edge is a bizarre place.

Some never have to step back from it because they never chance getting within its gravitational pull.

Some live on the edge and chronicle what goes on beyond it.

Some step over the edge and never come back.

Some step over the edge only to realize it's not the edge at all. It's where everyone else is.

A step toward sanity for some. Insanity for others.

user-pic

Shhhhh.... Peace still has the microphone....

user-pic

A small un-trumpeted elaboration on that very thought, forthwith.

user-pic

I'm outta here.

Nice
