Those crazy "tax and invest" Democrats
Republicans are dangerous simplifiers.
All you hear from them is that Democrats "tax and spend".
Obama's plan, though, is to "tax and invest".
Invest in things like education, science and medicine. And alternative energy. You know, that fantastical futuristic "magnetic levitating train" Republicans think is pure fiction? These "maglevs" are already transporting millions of commuters in Germany, Korea, Japan and China. And the United Kingdom, Venezuela, India and Pakistan have projects in the works. So it's not the future. It's the present. Now if Republicans don't even want to invest in the present, we'll be stuck in the past. And there's no future in the past.
It is progressive to tax and invest.
Now are we saddling future generations with debt? No, we're investing in future generations so they can reap the dividends of American progress and ingenuity.
If we tax and "spend" trillions on everything but things like education and medicine and technology, then yes, we are handing them a debt they would never ever be able to pay off.
And if we don't tax and we don't spend and we don't invest, what would America's future be?
I don't know. Ask a Republican.

Republicans used the politics of fear to cram down the Patriot Act and lots of other bulls. They saw an opportunity in that crisis and used it.
Now it's Democrats' turn. They will use the crisis to cram down all kinds of spending and tax hikes.
"We inherited this deficit" which is "unsustainable" so now we're going to fix by spending more than anyone in history.
I say - fair game, it's all about grand ideology and nothing about real economic recovery.

Thanks Lalo35adm, for pointing out to others the least intelligent way to interpret my post.

I'm not sure about how this works where you're from, but down here on Earth, we call "unsustainable deficits" BANKRUPTCY. We refer to messes that we did not create but are charged with cleaning up as being "inherited."

We inherited unsustanable deficits, caused by runaway fiscal irresponsibility of Bush&Co.
We never tired of pointing out that Clinton had a balanced budget and that deficits destroy the economy.
Now we turn around and proclaim that we'll fix the problem caused by spending - by spending even more.
And it certainly helps that we can use the crisis to silence dissent. After all, they did it too.
And please don't tell me that Obama promised to return the deficit to Bush's level by the end of his first term. I don't think that cuts it.
