Week of February 22, 2009 - February 28, 2009

clip of CNBC's Burnett and Haines missing the point entirely.

After Ron Paul's fiercely intelligent opening statement at the Bernanke hearing, the CNBC hosts seem to apologize for airing it live, and promise to go back to the hearing only if something really substantive happens.

The problem?  What Ron Paul said was really substantive.

Now I understand that CNBC has a retail audience and that market activity hinges on Bernanke's every word, but this is illustrative of the media once again missing the big picture to instead cover the "news."

Here's the clip

Those crazy "tax and invest" Democrats

Republicans are dangerous simplifiers.

All you hear from them is that Democrats "tax and spend".

Obama's plan, though, is to "tax and invest".

Invest in things like education, science and medicine.   And alternative energy. You know, that fantastical futuristic "magnetic levitating train" Republicans think is pure fiction?   These "maglevs" are already transporting millions of commuters in Germany, Korea, Japan and China.   And the United Kingdom, Venezuela, India and Pakistan have projects in the works.  So it's not the future.  It's the present.  Now if Republicans don't even want to invest in the present, we'll be stuck in the past.  And there's no future in the past.

It is progressive to tax and invest.

Now are we saddling future generations with debt?  No, we're investing in future generations so they can reap the dividends of American progress and ingenuity.

If we tax and "spend" trillions on everything but things like education and medicine and technology, then yes, we are handing them a debt they would never ever be able to pay off.

And if we don't tax and we don't spend and we don't invest, what would America's future be?

I don't know.  Ask a Republican.
