2004 Interview with Bush in Ireland--not released in America

A reporter in Ireland asks Bush about Iraq in 2004.  She doesn't back down and Bush gets a little testy and demonstrates that he is in a world all his own.
You can find the link here

That EPA report--a great encapsulation of why Bush/Cheney will end up in the dustbin of history

I know TPM just posted this link but I think it's too precious an article not to read:
So I apologize in advance for posting it again.

Should Obama give a speech to address how he will restore our justice system/checks and balances?

Apathy has been gaining a lot of momentum in the last month, especially among the millions of new voters Obama has drawn into our political process.
There's a gaping absence of justice that many thought would have been drawn, quartered and corrected when the Democrats won a majority in 2006.

There will never be full accountability for the lawlessness of the last eight years but I didn't think there would be zero accountability.
Is there any other time in history when congress' approval rating was at 9%?  Is it any wonder that it's so low when you consider the egregious lack of any pursuit of justice?

How patriotic is it for any American to blow off a subpoena from the judicial committee?

I think when Karl Rove, or any other American, gives the judicial committee the finger by not  showing up after receiving a subpoena, it is without question,  anti-American.  Clearly, unpatriotic.
As I'm sure you've heard, he's asserting Executive Privilege, which is baseless in Rove's situation. He's basically saying "fuck off America".
In fact, an even louder form of "fuck off America" is not doing what is required by law for anyone asserting executive privilege--showing up to assert executive privilege.

I should mention that Karl Rove offered to speak to members of the committee but only in private, ad if it's off-record and no one is allowed to take notes, or leave with anything that was written, recorded or otherwise chronicled during the meeting.
The only recourse the House judiciary committee can take is to hold him in contempt, arrest him, and hold him in jail.
And if they don't, are they not blowing off their own duties as sworn in members of the House?

The Liars Club

I think we should open up a Liars Club, as there are so many politicians that would so effortlessly earn the distinction of qualifying as members.
To promote the Liars Club, I think we should have "The Biggest Liar of the Week" nominations, provided in the form of a video clip from the Sunday Talk Shows, or on the campaign trail, or from the floor of the Senate.
The Liars Club would be non-partisan.  Anyone from the left or right is welcome to offer a nominee as long as they have the video clip as proof.
I don't think we should include flip-flops because that only ranks as mere deceit.  It's junior varsity stuff.
We should only include those who are stating a complete and utter falsehood.

A blatant bald-faced lie or someone lying through the skin of his or her teeth.

China drilling for oil off our shores, for example.
Or if you saw the Senate debate on FISA today, it would be a toss up between Kit Bond, Mitch McConnell and J. Rockefeller, though I believe Kit Bond would win hands down.

We could have Hall of Fame Inductees at the end of the year.
I would say we should have five judges--all from different sites, so we get an objective review of the weekly nominees.
If a nominee is selected five times, he becomes a member of the five-timer's club--and receive a lifetime membership to the Liar's Club.
We could set up a link that people could click on to see an archive of the weekly winners.
Also, we should really promote the winners, one at a time, as they're selected on a weekly basis.  The video should be available on all sites, but most importantly, it should appear on a local site, one that a politician's own constituents can easily access.
This is about accountability and killing a lie before it takes root.
What do you guys think?

Green architecture in Dubai

With all the oil in the world at their fingertips, why would places like Dubai invest so heavily in solar, wind and geothermal energy?
This is the question I'd like any self-respecting reporter to ask George Bush, Dick Cheney, or any of the other knuckle-dragging Republicans trying to suck up every last puddle of oil around us, including ANWR.
This link will take you to an example of what other countries in the  21st century are doing with their creative minds.  It's called dynamic architecture--buildings that move and create their own solar and wind energy.

America isn't exactly back in the stone age, but pretty soon that elusive search for a civilization far more advanced than ours will take us to places like China, India, and the middle east.
