infomercial or conversation with America?
Pat Buchanan said on MSBC that Obama is 2 touchdowns ahead and should take a knee. Since when is talking to the American people unsafe? what if Roosevelt were afraid to give a fireside chat? would americans have served like they did? It's like Republicans chiding Obama for talking to Iran or Chavez... they are afraid of communicating. After the most secretive administration ever, many Americans who feel left out and marginalized by the Bush government, just might like a President who speaks directly to them and identifies with their hopes and worries.
People have been really shielded from Obama as the media has chopped up everything into contrary soundbites colored endlessly by the punditry. This will be the first chance for many people to see Obama in a different format, outside the debates or news.
A few million baseball fans in Florida and PA are going to see this... This is a dream ad buy with Phillies and Devil Rays in the World Series... amazing luck! I am sure when this was bought, the polls were much more close, but this is not for the win... this is for the change mandate.

If Pat Buchanan says to take a knee, then Obama definitely needs to drive down the field for a touchdown, go for two, and then kick an onside kick and get the ball back and go for another touchdown.
No doubt, Pat's buddies are the ones printing the flyers that say Democrats should vote on Nov. 5.

yes, he def. needs to run up the score... I ate 10 sandwiches during the Giant's oh too close superbowl win and I can't go through that on election day.

You make a very important point here. After 8 years of secrecy, doublespeak and silence, it's as if everyone is saying, "Don't talk too much! The truth might get out. Protect yourself."
It's a conditioned response, and they might even think it's honestly good advice, strange as it sounds. No communication is better than a minor mistake, as the conventional wisdom goes.
They forget that, as Colbert said, "Reality has a well-known liberal bias." And your comment about sound bites and commentary is right on.
Even Politico got in on the act.

Remember, following a Republican administration as secret and nasty as this one with a transparent Democratic administration is VERY scary to those guys.
The shredders would be working overtime from November 5 until January 20.
They have a LOT at stake in this election.

That was a great 2 hours of entertainment - from the Obama informercial to the Phillies pile on after winning the world series - and we only had to watch 3 innings for the big payoff!
I like the infomercial... I was all prepared to hate it, like those syrupy schmaltzy campaign biopics they show at the conventions, but the documentary style was pretty cool, and as someone in the media, I was vastly impressed with the production and the eye for detail. But just because there was a lot of production, from sound to color, to editing, does not mean this was not real.
The story of the 72 year old man who totally paid off his house and did everything right, having to come out of retirement to pay for his wife's arthritis medicine was profound. Going back to work at 72 to fund the pharmaceutical companies? Is that freedom? Is this America? No sir, it is not. I would prefer socialized medicine over a feudal indentured servitude to Big Pharma - in this light socialism is the safety net that protects the American Dream. I want to sit Joe the Plumber down and have him react to this story on an honest level. I think in this light, he would see that socialism is compatible with the American Dream, and our current system of healthcare is a corporatocracy.
