Cheney is Full of It: "Nobody Thought This Was Possible."
Cheney says, "... bottom line is we successfully defended the nation for seven and half
years against a follow-on attack to 9/11. That was a remarkable
achievement, nobody would have thought that was possible, but it was. I
believe it was possible because of the policies we had in place, which
they're now dismantling."
I don't know about that ... The US was attacked on February 26th 1993. That was the first time the WTC was attacked. 8 and 1/2 years passed between that attack and the Sept 11th, 2001 attack. The press has avoided this line of thinking, but the fact is Al Queda moves slowly. Certainly, interrupting their operations in Afghanistan effected their ability to train prepare and implement subsequent operations. But lack of an attack here doesn't prove the value of torture not to mention the recruiting value torture has on recruitment.
"nobody would have thought that was possible" Where have we heard this before? Oh yeah! The Bush administrations claim that no one expected airplanes flying into building.
Using Cheney's logic, the Clinton administration should take credit for thwarting a second attack for 7 years and 10 months ... without torturing?

Right you are. The fact is that the Bushies fired and demoted all the Clinton people working on terrorism. The AG Ashcroft did not even list terrorism in his top 10 priorities for the Bush Administration. Why oh why is this not common knowledge? Clinton was a very smart man with very smart people around him. Bush was a dumb ass with political hacks around him. They undid everything Clinton had put in place to satisfy their egos and right wing ideology and look what happened. When Bush had to have Cheney at his side holding his hand to testify to the 911 Commission it was the truth staring us right in the eyes yet no big deal was made of it that they were so damned wrong about security priorities. This should have been a huge scandal and they should never have been reelected.

So we are calling the constant IED and rocket attacks on our troops what if not terrorist attacks leveled against America?

Terrorism is attacking noncombatants for the purpose of discrediting the existing system of authority. Attacking the uniformed military, painful as it is when those in uniform are people you know, is not terrorism.

So planting an IED on a roadway to destroy the first American vehicle, be it soldiers in a Humvee or contractors in a supply truck, isn't an act of terrorism because why? Because of a rigid dictionary definition? Was the attack on the canal hotel terrorism? What about the attack on the USS Cole? (whiny nerd-voice)"Nope, because it doesn't fit this specific definition, look right here." Obtuse, to say the least.

When I first heard Condi Rice say that, I knew that she was either:
A. Lying, or
B. Incompetent.
Or,
C. Both.
I think I'll go with C.

Last I heard, Condi was still wondering whether the aluminum tubes were for Iraq's conventional rockets or their (non) nuclear program.
She's C.
