Top Ten Corrupt States: Republican Base States (southern) Outshine the Rest

Here is the list published by Corporate Crime Reporter based on the Justice Department's Public Integrity Section's 2006 report.

Louisiana (1), Mississippi (2), Kentucky (3), Alabama (4) and Ohio (5) are the top five most corrupt states in the country, according to the analysis. Rounding out the top ten are Illinois (6), Pennsylvania (7), Florida (8), New Jersey (9), and New York (10).

Republicans are now calling Blagojevich's political environment a "democratic culture of corruption." Interesting how the top 4 corrupt states are southern states and part of the Republican party's regional base.

And of course, these numbers were compiled by Justice while the Rove politicalization was a big part of the fabric there. How many more R's should of been investigated had they not had potential political cover at Justice?

I'm saddened CT didn't make the list, but I realize we are small potatoes compared to the big boys. But, just to note, our last elected Governor is in jail for corruption....The last 3 Mayors of Waterbury (our 4th largest city) have done jail time, the last one on child sex charges, more locally, police officers in my hometown were recently removed for patronizing prostitutes and stealing frozen lobsters while on duty (seriously).

And oh yeah, JOE LIEBERMAN!

I know he's not corrupt by definition, but he's still really, really awful.

Ohio's on that list because of Republicans, as well.

Glad to see my home state of Kentucky getting the recognition it deserves. As always, it has been sadly overlooked and ignored by the national media. I mean, what, three governors in a row implicated in scandals? Counties that are more like medeval fiefs than political subdivisions? An economy built on mineral extraction and evasion of environmental laws? Yeah, baby, that's some fertile ground, there!

I am from KY too. I am a bit shocked to see KY on the list. Our state always makes the top ten in areas we do not want to be included.

Interesting note: with the exception of OH, the top five are in the bottom 30, population-wise, and the bottom five are in the top ten. Furthermore, the two most populous states, CA and TX, didn't make the list at all. Just an observation; don't know there's any relevance.

What about the state with the most governors that have gone to jail?? You guessed it - ILLINOIS.

But why are you trying to make this such a Dem vs Republican issue??

It's not just Republicans that are saying the Illinois machine is politically corrupt. The MSNBC crowd are saying it too.
