« Bipartisanship or Bipartisan....SHIT! (The excuse of chickenshit Democrats) and "CONSENSUS" the NEW enemy of everything. | O¿O in the crowd's Blog | I have been rather discouraged... It is time for Obama to accept the role of Buford Pusser and "WALK TALL" into the Senate Finance Committee and crack some heads! »

This is the perfect day for launching "The Middle/Missing Class Public Action Council" Your help and expertise is needed.

I can no longer sit idly by and do nothing while those we elect ignore the needs of "We The People" and I need your help in whatever manner you are able to offer it.

I figure that today, the 4th of July, is the perfect day to start an organization that's sole purpose is to work for, lobby and agitate on behalf of the American individual. It will focus on ways to directly influence lawmakers to support legislation that will put "We The People" ahead of any corporate or special interest group.

This organization would initially try to sway those in power with "positive reinforcement" and if "positive reinforcement" proves ineffective then it will move on to the more direct techniques, like recruiting candidates to run against those lawmakers that continue to champion corporate interests over the interests of "We The "People".

Here's the problem, We are going to need a LOT of help to get this thing from this "post" to an actual functioning nationwide organization. (yea... I know,  many are already laughing at me but that's OK, just keep reading and post your ideas and what you would like to do IF this actually happens to take off)

I know that there are some "old pros" that post here on TPM that would know exactly what needed to be done to really jump start this  new political party....uh.... er...  organizing effort.

I know that this is going to be a long hard road to navigate and I hope that many people will take the time to get involved. We need input from as many people as  we can get, we need ideas on how to get this group up and running and we need people that are willing to take on leadership roles in each city, county and state. We need ideas on how to raise money and someone to keep track of it. We need people to organize the ideas and manage the implementation of those ideas.

Again, I realize that a lot of folks are already laughing about this little project and I completely understand how unlikely something like this is to succeed, but I believe that we must at least give it a shot. Because if we don't, those worthless DINOs and heartless Republicans will keep standing up for their corporate masters' and laughing at each and every one of  "U.S." all the way to the bank.

So, I'm asking you to PLEASE, give this some serious consideration and tell us your ideas about what you feel needs to be done to really make this fledgling organization a force in American politics. Also, tell us what you would like to do to help get this "council" off the ground.

The name is not that important, however, I really think that any name needs to include "Middle/Missing", because it's those folks that really need a voice in American politics. But it is up to all those interested in working (and it will be work) to make this "council" a force that MUST be reckoned with.

THANKS, for taking the time to read this far, (bet I lost a lot of people in the first paragraph).   I really hope many, many people will take on this challenge and help create something that will become a permanent force in American politics.

So, you tell me, what's the first step in growing a true political "machine"?

(BTW... if anyone has a problem with my involvement, I will happily get out of the way or do whatever is requested).

The first step unfortunately is lots and lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$! Even grassroots efforts need funding.

Any good ideas for fundraising?

So appreciate your efforts. Will think more about this!

AS,
You are exactly right it takes truckloads of $$$! I'm trying to figure that not so small problem out and don't know where to look, I was hoping someone here might have some ideas on that (fingers crossed).
THANKS for the kind words and I hope more folks "commence to cogitatin'" on how to get this thing off the ground, or at least to ground level, because we surely have a place to go with it.

Do you have the ability to have website for this concept?

user-pic

AS,
I have registered tmcpac . com, org, net etc.. But as for ability, I haven't a clue on how to make a website. I even paid a guy and it has never shown up like I asked. I'd love to find someone that had the ability and the time to do it and keep up with it. Hell, I'd let them do whatever they wanted as long as it was on point.

It doesn't start with big money, it starts with focus, purposeful intent. Where you need $$$$$... is in going public at or after the first knee of growth. But then you should have 1000s of active supporters.

It's similar to a start-up company. Good ideas, good skills, good market understanding. Start in a garage, take over the world! Instead of selling product, software, or service, you take in donations to support the mechanics of the Cause.

"sole purpose is to work for, lobby and agitate on behalf of the American individual"

Given the varieties of individuals (with varied needs, values, circumstances), that's a pretty abstract purpose. And it is paradoxical if not self-contradictory -- as a group designed to support individuality it must fight itself to some extent!

The idea of a Union For Voters is not bad but not exactly novel,

"Republican Voters Union
Giving America Back to the Voters"

eds has staked out where the conversation needs to begin. I'm tied up at the moment but have some ideas. I'll be back.

bm,
At the moment This is just me thinking out loud. I think that there must be 5 or 10 basic principals that I believe most everyone can agree with. At the moment I don't have a clue what those 5 or 10 things might be, and that's why I opened this up for ideas.
I think that eds is splitting hairs but also has a point, but I do think there is enough issues a pretty big minority (if not a majority) could agree with and fight for, as long as you exclude religions as a defining belief.
I have some ideas but I'll wait before posting them here.
I just wanted to see if this is something people would be interested in pursuing.
I hope you will post your thought on this.

I agree with eds. I would sign on of course.

1. There must be a public option in any new health care legislation.

2. There must be a value added tax on the sale of all stocks or bonds or similar securities. 1%

3. A 50% income tax rate on all incomes over 1 million dollars.

4. A low but effective tax on corporations.

..............

Ten might be a good number.

Generalities are easy. Particularizing them coherently is indeed a challenge, one which pales before the challenge of particularizing them also effectively (so as to empower the Cause).

I support your initial outreach and look forward to you taking it forward enough so that I can "grok" its substantive possibilities.

Agree with eds: "work for, lobby and agitate on behalf of the American individual" is an awfully broad statement of intent and a space already claimed by SEIU, MoveOn.org and a host of other groups.

Here's a thought. Why not start small: leverage social media to build a real, functioning online community, then let a core group of community members establish the agenda?

If you don't have a blog outside TPM, start one. Go over to Ning and start a community called The Missing Class. Then set up a Twitter account, research and hand pick your follows/followers, and point them to the community and your blog posts. Establish a presence on Facebook and Linkedin.

The rules will be different. Your goal is a real community, not a dysfunctional shoutfest populated with avatars, loaded down with dyspeptic screeds and overrun with trolls. That means real names and e-mail addresses. It means careful management. Embrace disagreement, welcome opposing positions, but insist on civility and shared purpose.

It will take a lot of sweat equity, but you can do all this without spending a dime. Inside of a year, you could have a functioning community and could begin plotting your next move.

Sounds like there needs to be a list of things to do.

Got a roadmap for how to do this?

Charismatic leader would be good - know any?

Need a Cheney/Goebbels type for PR, not evil but smart.
