Did Obama lose the election?
Why are Mitch McConnell and John Boehner dictating terms of the stimulus package. Obama won. They lost. We don't agree with their ideas. What is going on?

Last time I checked they were in the minority and you don't need their approval. So do what you want. I think Obama was the only Democrat calling for bi-partisanship. The vast majority of Dems just want to railroad everything right through

I can't figure it out. I hope this is truly a chess game. My thinking is that the repubs will play ball as long as they get their way. When Obama wants to call in his chits they will turn their backs on him as republicans always do. They only want to win. They could care less about the country.
Does Obama know this? If not, why do I know it?

But that's just it. I don't believe Obama is trying to create (or collect) any "chits".
He's offered them a chance to have substantial input on the bill. They got a few added tax breaks and they got the contraceptives provision pulled. I suspect that's all they'll get.
The difference between now and "then" (representing various past situations that probably feel like exactly this situation, even though they're not) is that Democrats are better organized.
Peter Orszag has the Blue Dogs on board, Emanuel, Clyborn and Durbin are getting the Dem votes in line, and there are a few moderate Republicans who will come along to give a solid win.

Because those Republicans represent the views and desires of a huge portion of Americans, whether we like it or not. Obama is "being their president too."

I think they have convinced a huge portion of Americans that they represent their views and desires in past elections, but that myth is wearing thin and worn. I suspect that the 2010 primaries will prove they represent their own desires more than their constituents.

No, but he'll lose the next one. The vote is in. Repubs house members voted unanimously against the socialist spending bill. The die has been cast. 2010 will be a repeat of '94!!!!!!!

Au contraire, methinks 2010 will be a repeat of 2006 and 2008.
