Videotaping at Airports

Palingates offers a video of a fellow in Valdez videotaping Sarah Palin and her protective husband at the airport there.  Whatever else you think of Sarah (or the content of the video), I can't help but wonder as to the legality of videotaping inside an airport terminal.  We used to have an agency called the TSA, and if memory serves, they aren't even happy with people taking still shots of TRAINS, let alone running amok with a video cam inside an airport.  Anybody know the law on such activities these days?

Change You Can't Believe In

A lab that tests medical marijuana for dispensaries and patients said Thursday it was raided by federal drug agents and ordered to turn over patient records.

Back in the 'good old days'....

Supporters of programs to provide legal marijuana to patients with painful medical conditions are celebrating Attorney General Eric Holder's statement this week that the Drug Enforcement Administration would end its raids on state-approved marijuana dispensaries.

America is Screwed

The Supreme Court decision to legalize political corporate bribery is a death knell for our democracy.  It was fun while it lasted.

Time to Invade Haiti

While on the ground in Haiti, the U.S. military can also interrupt the nightly flights of cocaine to Haiti and the Dominican Republic from the Venezuelan coast and counter the ongoing efforts of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to destabilize the island of Hispaniola.
Great idea here.  We can pretend the US Coast Guard is there to help, all the while stealing Venezuelan cocaine to fund our war with Yemen.  It's a win-win.  Go Wolverines.

Tuition Free Educational Opportunity

While many Americans struggle to pay off their student loans, at least one group of favored foreigners are not belabored with such debt:

American officials agreed to send the two terrorists from Guantanamo to Saudi Arabia where they entered into an "art therapy rehabilitation program" and were set free, according to U.S. and Saudi officials.

Set free. As in "free to return to attacking America". Heckuva job Bushie. Worst president ever.
BTW Obama, war crimes trials are LONG overdue.

Bending America Over

The shoe bomber ordeal caused a change in security that requires everyone to remove their shoes for security purposes.

The changes being made to keep us safe on airplanes now that the latest crazy Muslim has taken a swipe at us:

Passengers getting off flights from overseas reported being told that they couldn't get out of their seat for the last hour of their flight. Air Canada also said that during the last hour passengers won't be allowed access to carry-on baggage or to have any items on their laps.
Whether or not this method of added security is a good thing will no doubt be hotly debated over the coming weeks.  From my perspective we're just inches away from requiring complete strip searches before boarding an airline.  I still look pretty good in my Hanes, so I don't really care.

On the other hand, it's only a matter of time before some enterprising young terrorist decides to jam their favorite homemade incendiary up their ass, at which point, "alien probe" will take on a whole new connotation.

Health Care Non Reform

The House bill would cap annual out-of-pocket medical expenses at $5,000 per individual and $10,000 per family starting in 2013. New plans offered through new employers, as well as policies sold through the proposed health insurance exchange, a marketplace where consumers can compare plans and prices, would be subject to limits.

and this:

A family making $50,000 will have to make serious sacrifices to find $10,000 [the amount you're likely to spend for an insurance policy under the new law]. But it's better--light years better--than finding $25,000 or more [the amount you'd have to find without the new law]. It's potentially the difference between having to give up your home, get an extra job or declare bankruptcy. Just knowing the bills that could come will be the difference between getting care you need--and skipping it, at grave risk to your health.

Health care never needed reform.  Profiteering off health care certainly did, but I see no signs of that in what I've read.  Anybody out there care to enlighten me on how a $10,000 annual policy premium (with another $10,000 out-of-pocket cap) is a good thing?

Caribou Barbie's "Cap and Tax"

Even a stopped watch is correct twice a day, and for all the nonsense Sarah normally spews, she is right about at least ONE thing.   There will be costs associated with the process of weaning ourselves off "Drill Baby Drill", and those costs will likely be offset through increases in taxation.

Let's just return to the tax structures of the early days in Mayberry (about the same era as Mad Men).  Back then, the country was strong and vibrant.  Rich people paid taxes and there were jobs in Detroit.  No, really.

Greedy rich people like Sarah just don't want to pay their fair share of taxes.  It's just not the Christian thing to do.

Evidence of Bankster Evolution

Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- "I just wrote my first reference for a gun permit," said a friend, who told me of swearing to the good character of a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. banker who applied to the local police for a permit to buy a pistol. The banker had told this friend of mine that senior Goldman people have loaded up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a populist uprising against the bank.

They don't call them the smartest guys in the room for nothing.

Don't Just Blame Huckabee

While it is politically expedient to blame Huckabee for the (multiple) releases of predatory criminals, it isn't all his fault.  We just don't have the capacity to jail all the people who need to be in jail.

You have to let some of the bad guys go to make room for the latest batch.  At some point in time they had to make room for Tommy Chong.  You just can't let the unauthorized production of glassware go unpunished or it will set a bad example for the rest of society.

Enjoy.
