Gays and Pot Smokers

Don't Ask Don't Tell isn't going away?   Statement from Obie:

"Gays and pot smokers please move to the back of the bus.  Thank you for whole-heartedly helping get me elected.  Even though the majority of the American people support both decriminalization of marijuana and full legal rights for gay couples, I'll not risk upsetting Rush Limbaugh by doing the right thing."

Hi. I'm gay and I'm known to get lit up on occassion. I've also been a critic of the Warren choice and the current banking policies. However, on this I have to say "It's been 2 months".

Also, this is in the article you link to...

"The White House has said Obama has begun consulting with Gates and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on how to lift the ban. Gates says that dialogue has not really progressed very far at this point in the administration."

Hey, it's a start!

I am reccomending this because you have a point. The military remains an organization that practices discrimination based on sexuality. Anti-gay slurs, taunts, and insinuations are ever-present. It is shameful that we associate heterosexuality with manliness. The movie 300 is a good example. There was a ton of homoerotic subtext yet had to jab at the Athenians for being boy lovers. Never mind the historical fact of Spartan homosexuality. The military must be forced to integrate further.

What made you think that Pres. Obama would even be inclined to do anything to improve the lives of either group? The gentleman has already demonstrated a cavalier attitude about privacy and personal freedom (Remember his vote on the FISA bill? Remember his administration marching in lock-step with the Bushies re: national security testimony in lawsuits?), and is a very serious Christian.

Gays and pot smoking THAT'S NOT RIGHT, RUNNING AROUND BEING GAY ALL THE TIME AND SMOKING POT AND BECOMING EVEN GAYER, I mean do know 33,000 people died last year in auto accidents and another 33,000 died shooting themselves THATS NOT RIGHT RUNNING AROUND SHOOTING EACH OTHER AND DYING IN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS, I MEAN THAT JUST IS NOT RIGHT.

I mean where is perspective anymore? Oh yeah, we never had it. How many people died last year smoking weed?

politics and propaganda.

OOoooh now I understand why the GOPers are against weed ... teh gay! Now we're gonna have to send all them darn potheads to Ted Haggard's sexual rewiring camp.

KGB, larry craig is hosting it this year.
you have to be THIS TALL for this stall.

"Who? Who? Gay? Gay's not here, man!"

Well I doubt pot smokers were expecting that much from him in regards to that subject. The GLBT community should be very unhappy about Gates' statement. I wish the government changed its positions on both issues though.

Anybody want a hit? I think it is 4:20 here...

I was disturbed at the way President Obama marginalized us, the online community, in his town hall Q & A. His implication was- there is something really wrong with us [the online community].

What happened to everyone has a seat at the table?
The daily emails asking us to keep up the good work and keep donating.
I was under the impression that we were his base.
That he was grateful for our contributions and work.

What happened to no more business as usual in D.C.? It seems that it is more important for the President to placate the republicans, even though he will never win them over.
However, doing so it at our expense is wrong.
They will not support you for re-election Mr. President; no matter what you say or do!
They openly belittle you and hope all you do fails.
This is the first time I have ever questioned the President in public.
How many of you felt like you got sucker punched when President Obama made the statement about us in the Q & A?

What statement was that?

"There was one question that voted on that ranked fairly high and that was whether legalizing marijuana would improve the economy and job creation," he said. "And I don't know what this says about the online audience, but ... this was a popular question. We want to make sure it's answered. The answer is no, I don't think that's a good strategy to grow our economy. All right."
Now, I think the joke went over like a lead balloon, but to be fair, he answered the question that was asked, which was this:
"With over 1 out of 30 Americans controlled by the penal system, why not legalize, control, and tax marijuana to change the failed war on drugs into a money making, money saving boost to the economy? Do we really need that many victimless criminals?"
I think the person asked the wrong question and got an answer that reflected that. A better question is this: What does the War on Drugs get us besides higher prison populations, a huge "justice" industry and a violent criminal underground? Are we going to continue pretending that Prohibition worked, Mr. President?

The person tied it to the economy directly and that was the answer they got, which I don't really agree with as far as it goes since it would create a new sector in the economy, but would hardly grow it in a way the question seemed to imply, meaning can a Pot Bubble replace the Real Estate Bubble that just burst?

Thanks for the update. I've never cared much about legalization of marijuana, either way, which probably explains why I missed this tidbit.
