Where to return Fitz's Christmas Gift?
Bad as it looks, Reid has no legal authority to do this since Blago has not ?YET? even been indicted, let alone impeached. This is a torture of the law akin to that used to torture people. Stop it already. Burris is a grandstanding idiot, but has no connection to the Blago mess himself, and should not be used as a proxy in this dispute.
The race baiting of the Republicans is as putrid as the possibility that Reid (Mormon-White) might have actually linked race to electability. Just as we all know the Republicans are born liars, it's also entirely possible Reid (Mormon-White) made those comments. At a minimum, it's a diverting sideshow of freakish proportions, so I expect that's all Fox and Friends has been talking about for the last couple weeks.
Franken was legally elected and there is no reason for the Republicans to be playing games with his seating. The Republicans look really bad linking Franken to this Burris fiasco, but Reid is providing just enough cover that they think they can get away with it.
I don't think the public is amused. The average Joe can easily see why the Burris appointment is 'tainted' (despite being legally unavoidable). The move against Franken is just dirty politics. It is going to cost the Republicans more than the Dems. Watch and see.
The bottom line is that this is all the fault of the same guy who couldn't convict Libby for obvious treason in the outing of Plame. The blame for this whole mess sits squarely on the lap of Fitz. Long considered the most 'leak free' prosecutor around, his reputation is now in shatters over what amounts to the worst leak in the history of his career.
What Fitz is doing is analogous to having released the transcripted audio confession of a very noisy (and braggadocios) murderer to the public, and then claiming he can't arrest the guy because the entirety of the audio hasn't been decoded/transcribed. If you've got the guy admitting to murder, you don't really need to know what they ordered for lunch afterward or any of the other ancillary illegalities.
Mr. Fitzpatrick, either indict the guy or quit screwing with America.
Enjoy.
