Young Republicans
Another racist goes public and does not understand what all the fuss is about.
Its always open season on blacks. Some of you educated white liberals might admit that 82 percent (2004 stats) of you will enjoy racist comments made by your peers. In private conversation, you will not stop the degradation of another human being if that person is black.
Look around your work sites. Where are your black co-workers? seventy percent of middle and middle upper class blacks work in government. Government is the only employer dedicated to closing the ever widening employment gap between black and white. Private sector has your permission to exclude blacks because you feel uncomfortable with more then two blacks in the same room.
President Obama said the most segregated place in American is church on Sunday morning. He's wrong, with only 6 percent of black news reporters sitting in the newsroom. I say that the most segregated place is the newsroom on Monday morning, writing negative copy about blacks to reinforce stereotypes formulated by the press.
Another issue is how some of you are so childish to believe its socially acceptable to call blacks names. Well, let me say, at my age, I have never heard any black refer to whites as polacks, spics, potato heads, Marshmallow, Ofay Trailer Trash, etc.etc.
And then again, I remember as a black Vietnam Veteran, that the Vietnamese could claim american citizenship as long as they could say the 'n' word. Other foreigners have also learned that this lesson is the true path to citizenship. But you don't hear blacks saying pakis or towelheads in public or private.
So, whats your excuse?

What racist? Is there a link? There's been quite a few of them going public.
What stats are you talking about on "you educated white liberals"? Is there a link? When you're talking statistics, you ought to back it up or you're just tossing around numbers.
I think the natural sciences have your reporters number beat. And math is even worse.:

One of the worst discrepancies between black and white are in the sciences. We really need more black scientists!

This prompts me to ask why. Are there not black Ph.D. candidates pursuing such degrees? And if not, then why not?
Likewise with newsrooms - although soon enough there won't be anyone of any description in newsrooms if things continue the way they are at the moment.

Hey Grouch,
There's the usual reasons, like blacks often coming from poor families and the few that do go to college being encouraged to go into fields that make more money. But a big reason is simply lack of mentors-be it parents, prominent scientists or good teachers that they had in school. Here's an article that I found. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0DXK/is_n23_v13/ai_19149862/
In geology, my field, there's a terrible lack of black people. In my department, for instance, there's parity in the sexes as far as students go. But out of a 43 faculty (didn't check to see who's tenured), there's a grand total of one black person. And in this Southwestern state of over 40% Hispanics? Not even freaking one.
What this is saying is that many extremely brilliant people who would contribute much to science aren't here, for one reason or another. And it's a damn shame.

Nice job! You managed to turn this turd of a post into something positive.

Thanks--It would have been better if I'd actually read it closely before I posted. If I'd read that last paragraph initially, I'd have let this one go into either the "ignore" or "Report Abuse" pile.

I agree it's a shame. And I also wonder why, when people decry the lack of women, for example, in elected office, that there are so few women seeking office.
And then I wonder if the women who do run win and lose in proportional numbers. As in, does their gender confer an advantage, is it a liability, or is it really not a factor?

This diary was likely prompted by this story: New GOP Racist Headache from the Daily Beast (and likely other sources).
All I can offer to thomasjasen is that each successive generation tolerates the degradation of others less and less. My hope is that as more and more people get connected on the internet, we'll finally see interaction and integration that goes beyond the barriers of color, geography, society, and someday maybe even language.

Now it makes a little more sense. If that is what he was talking about.

Thanks Bwakfat. I'd read that, but didn't get the connection here. Links are always a good thing!

You left out "cracker." Ever heard a black person refer to a white person as a cracker?
Just two weeks ago I was called a "cracker motherfucker."
Not long before that, a blue eyed Puerto Rican I know was called a "white devil."
Also, there might be a reason you don't here white people referred to as "spics" very often. It's kinda the same reason you don't here Chinese folks referred to as Wops.

Cracker is not a racist term. Similar to "white trash" it is reflective of being poor and ignorant. These terms do pertain to "only" whites of a lower socioeconomic class; but, the bigots already had plenty of terms for dark skinned individuals.

Okay, but by that definition, redneck is a racist term -- only whites can truly have red necks.

this may be the stupidest thing you have ever said

On the contrary, I merely followed your "logic". Something for you to think about.

If I must explain the term redneck is definitive of a socioeconomic class. "Contrary to my logic" may now be the stupidest thing you've ever said.
