Credit where credit is due!
I would like to thank the right wing.
I never thought I would write to thank the right wing. But I'm living and learning every day - and now I see that the right wing wants to make sure I will not be euthanized when I sign up for Medicare next Spring.
This is maybe the first time ever that I have found the right wing offering to do something to care for citizens. Especially, caring for the weak and the old. They are apparently willing to go to any expense to keep me, a confirmed left winger, alive! In my old age no less! Even if I go senile and no longer know who I am! Even if I am suffering from being intubated and with lines into every part of my body. Even if I am in great pain from cancer, there is no way they will allow me to have enough pain meds - to permit a comfortable (and quicker) demise when the good lord is ready to take me. No, due to right wing caring I will likely be kept alive and alert - to the very end!
This is truly amazing! They will fight to keep a left-winger alive - and alert!- no matter what!
Now, let me assure the right wing that I fully intend to stay alive - quite possibly for as long as 30 years on Medicare. I intend to do everything to keep my health, my strength, and my mind. Please be advised, right wing, that I currently have 2 living parents (92 and 87 - with no sign of dying any time soon) and their parents lived to ripe old ages - one of them almost to 101 - in full command of her faculties!
So, thank you right wing! For once you are Right!
Please join me in gratefulness. Light a candle for healthcare!

I can now guarantee my peaceful oppositionto any immoral policies of theirs- without fear of being bumped off -till my last, peaceful, dying breath.

Took me forever to get the software to do - sort of - what I wanted.
But didn't take me long to tip my hat to right wing! May we all strive to live long - and fight the good fight! ;-)
Peace be with you. And long life too!

Who would have figured that, in an attempt to stoke fierce opposition to President Obama, right wing extremists would rally to extend the lives of progressives, and unwittingly extinguish the life of their own party?

I am off shortly to volunteer at the medical center. Where all are served, without distinction.
The sick deserve our care. Regardless of what they espouse or how they've lived their lives.
Peace and long life - for all!

TheraP, they're all opposed to the government not "killing" the elderly, not keeping them alive and certainly not paying for what that might take. Don't mistake their distaste for what, in their paranoid madness, they perceive as the government "killing" someone and their willingness to do anything to prevent people from dying otherwise. :)

I think this is more along the line of unintended consequences.
I wouldn't be counting my chickens Thera. If conservatives get their way and healthcare suffers the same consequence as it did under Clinton it might be there won't be any healthcare in twenty or thirty years. Except for the rich. Because by then, at the current rate, they'll have all the money. We'll all be working poor, nothing at all will be made in this country and the bankers will have all their sons and daughters as senators. And don't laugh. That is the track we are on.

I think we need to analyze each and every thing they say. And when they're - even inadvertently - headed in a compassionate direction, I intend to give thanks!
Along with my thanks for wise use of Medicare, I'm going to assume they mean to keep extending my Social Security benefits. For what good is life without the means to live it?
Gratitude!

P.S. I'm not on Social Security yet.... but I assume it will be there - along with my compassionate Medicare. Thanks to right wing determination to keep me alive!!!!

I've got about two years so unless something gets really crazy I'll get Social Security. Going on Medicare will feel strange though. I'm a veteran and have gotten my healthcare from the VA for a long time.

The VA's is a great, integrated health care system. The govt already does a lot of healthcare. And I'm not hearing complaints from the military or vets - with the exception of the bushco outsourcing of services (which was egregious). For the most part the VA has the highest possible standards for the psychologists it employs, good working conditions too.
The guy who lives behind me, and could have great benefits from years of teaching, uses the VA for all his healthcare. He's had great cancer care there.
If you don't have to change, stick with a good system!
As desperate as I am for good comprehensive health care, it will seem strange even for me to have Medicare. It's a certain milestone....

I agree. I have wondered why the VA sometimes gets a bad rap. Like any large managed system I'm sure thay have challenges. The quality of care is OK by me. What I think sets the VA apart is the caregivers themselves. You just can't miss the effort they put into it. I don't know how this happens except to say I know it has to come from the top. To my experience, no other service of any type, public or private, feels the same.

I did a summer internship at one many years ago. The quality of supervision was outstanding! As was the quality of care provided. I would gladly have worked in one. Why we tend to denigrate our govt-provided services is beyond me. I taught young children - and there are many fine people teaching.
I wonder if the VA itself partakes of the sense of pride that the military has. I really have idea to explain the system. But one of the best, by far, orthopedic surgeons I have ever known - both as a person and as a surgeon beloved by his patients is working at a VA out in Montana.

Apparently, if Terry Schiavo is any indication, the Right will fight to keep you alive whether you're aware or even conscious. They are very complex people.

I think we've gotten into rec inflation - due to the recent misuse of the rec function. It should soon simmer down... if recs are done fairly.
In any case, viva the elderly!

Tom, I bet SP has had to consider that her baby may need Social Security Disability from the get-go! With Medicare in addition!
SP... let's wait and see if the lady EVER does much more than publish a book - which will have to be ghost-written - unless it's a comedy!
