Double D's Birth Day!

Not even a score of months ago did I meet dd.   It was in deep December, when .. lo.. I happened upon  a post titled:  NOTHINGNESS.  It was a philosophical post.  It inquired into stellar science.  And, for whatever reason, it grabbed me.  I not only wrote one long response, I wrote two.  I had an amazing interaction with Lux Umbra Dei there.  And later dd as well.

That was my introduction to dd.

Apparently dd, at that time, had no faith in his writing.  And regularly put up and then took down his blogs.  I later learned he'd intended to take this one down too, convinced of its utter worthlessness.  But he was tired.  He went to sleep.  And woke to a new day!  A new dd!  A huge long thread!  To his own blog!  Already there.... waiting for him.

And thus was born a friendship.

And thus was rebirthed our very own dd, our Dickon.  Our Bard.  Our storyteller.  Our truth-teller.  Our poet.  Our historian and legal expert.  Our writer of reminiscences.  Our own pajama-wearing, lonely-hearts expert, turned internet sensation, dd!

On Wednesday, dd likely wrote the blog of his life.  Then again, he's probably going to top that by Saturday!

This is a short blog.  It is a Double D blog!  It is a Birthday (Cake) Blog!

Happy Birthday, dd!

This is not a blog for me to write in.  This is a blog for people to make into an interesting thread - a tribute to someone who came into his own at TPM Cafe.  Someone who held inside him images and words and stories no one seemed interested in - till he arrived at the Cafe - and people began to read and wonder at the man who had come among us.

Peace be with you, dear Double D.  And may you live long.  And live that life in song!

DD from all of me to all of you... thanks for your sharing yourself with us.

Have an excellent day! Drink in the love...

user-pic

Thank you Donal. It has been so good to have met you. And to converse with you on a regular basis.

user-pic

Thank you Sync. I pressed the wrong button. hahaha

But I have appreciated your comments and your great blogs for sometime.

You are a talented writer.

user-pic

HHappy BBirthday, DD

user-pic

I pressed the wrong button; nothing out of the ordinary for me. I always laugh Donal, when TheraP has two blogs going at one time and attempting to keep two other bloggers going--she will forget which blog she is writing on. hahahaha

At any rate, Thank you for your friendship.

user-pic

I thought Dickon hatched, fully grown, in the wilds of Minnesota.

Go figure.

Happy hatch day, Dickon.

user-pic

Bwak, I think I get a chance to thank you every day for being there. But I can thank you two or three times. hahaha

user-pic

DD, what can I say? First of all, the feature in "blog now" that allows you to pick when something posts works!

Second, I'm so glad you came to the Cafe! And just keep playing as you do now. Giving us whatever comes! But especially if memories come!

Tell us your memories. You write so well.

Blessings upon the coming year. And all the rest!

The Rap!

user-pic

I'm gonna link to Larry's blog, because it far surpasses this one, and once it falls off the list I don't want any who love dd to miss it:

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/larry_h/2009/05/this-dickday-in-history.php?ref=reccafe

If you haven't Larry's great tale, you've missed a classic! :-)

user-pic

Happy birthday, Dickon!

Thank you for making every day so special for us all. Thank you for the laughs and the music. Thank you for being our Bard, and especially for being yourself. Love you!

user-pic

LisB. You and Bwak and now your mother--when you are not throwing her out of chat rooms, hahahaha--are so much fun to be with.

user-pic

Right back at ya, Dickon! And, hey -- I only toss my mother out of the chat room when she's behaving like a mother...heh heh heh.

user-pic

Happy Happy Birthday DD.

I'm the new kid on the block but how quickly I have fallen under your spell.....I am in wonder at the magic you weave when you hit your keyboard and words appear on your screen and ours. Are we lucky or WOT?

I always feel a special beat in my heart when I go to TPM and find you have left another of your stories and I settle back to enjoy every word.

Blessings on this your natal day and I look forward to sharing your special day with you in "person" later on.

user-pic

Happy Birthday, DD. Thanks for your blogs and your humor. Just about all your writings have a little nugget in them to make me giggle.

To DD!
*clink*

user-pic

Thank you Frizzle, you always have kind words...

user-pic

And you always have lots of them. Zing!

user-pic

"Amare sed non tangere"

To love but not to touch (grasp) That was Lux. I miss Lux.

Miguel made the first comment on Dec7 of last year.
The second was TheraP. The third was Lux.

There was Grouch. I laugh because at one time I was going to call myself grouch!!!hahaha

Hilary99 was there. And Moat was there!!

I shed a little tear TheraP. My actual writing has not changed that much since then. It was me. I had found a way to communicate after so long and there were some here who grasped what I was trying to say...and took it to new dimensions.

Just like today. Thank you.

user-pic

Good to see you, dd. I hope you have the happiest of days! In the front seat! :-)

user-pic

Hippo Birdies to Ewe!

(I know you are not a ewe, but ram doesn't work)

It is uplifting to find people who understand what we are trying to say and support us saying it. I have often found that to be a rare commodity.

I am so glad that you are with us.

user-pic

Same back at you Rowan!!! I always look forward to your blogs. Sometimes your comments are blogs unto themselves.

user-pic

I am unforgivably loquacious at times. Sorry.

user-pic

Happy B-day, DD. Enjoy...

user-pic

Thanks Grouch, I consider you such a friend and have never 'met' you. Ha

user-pic

Many of us here, DD, have multiple friends we've never met in 3-D space.

Is it not so?

user-pic

That sure is so!

user-pic

Have the Best of Days, double D. 'Cause you are.

user-pic

Thank you much Lefty. To write and then to be read! Heaven for me.

user-pic

I left birthday wishes for you on another thread, but can a person have too many? I think not. Happy Birthday, DD, and (blesses herself sincerely) many, many more.
Speaking of more -- no birthday slacking; we want more. We're never satisfied because we know whatever you write about, there is more you can tell us and teach as you make us laugh and weep and sober up to the essence of our time. The poetry and music are good, too.
I wish I could arrange for Susan Boyle to sing Happy Birthday to you.

user-pic

Read the Nothingness piece Thera linked to this morning. It's a wonderful blog, Dick! It's what I love about everything you write, your rants and rememberances, fables and fantasies, they add a little sparkle to everything and ... Nothing. So now I'm sitting here looking into my empty coffee-cup, staring into the void, and methinks it just winked back. Well, anyway, already said happy birthday elsewhere so I'll just say to all and sundry on this special day

HAPPY DICKDAY!!! And hope you've all taken the traditional shot of viagra and caffeine...
;0)

user-pic

The coffee does taste unusually good this morning for some reason Obey. But Viagra is left for those...who have chance of using it for goood. ha

user-pic

Sir Pug, I read Nothingness this morning and then went through some of the oldies in dd's archives. Remember SHITSOPHRENIA?

In conclusion, I believe that the NRCC and WSJ are suffering from shitsophrenia. Our favorite son has burned down the barn, killed the neighbor's dog and run over the sheriff, but we, the GOP would appreciate the opportunity to try our hand at foster care, one more time.

Makes me laugh so hard I have to go lift a ... well, you know.

user-pic

Shitsophrenia! That blog's hilarious! Before my time, I think. LMTO!!!! Gotta get me a new tail now...
;0)

user-pic

Classic DD! :)

user-pic

I was doing the same thing seashell, and actually fell upon the same title, and started laughing like hell. Of course, that was the same time as Dick began his Arthur stories. The sheer stupidity of the knights put in firmly in the same league as Python.

So on the first one, I asked Dick if he could add more eye-gouging. And dogs. The next Arthur, I came back and asked at the end "P.S. Where's the eye-gouging? And the dogs?"
Posted by quinn esq - January 29, 2009 2:36 AM

Dick replies: "Hey, they are coming, I swear to Our Lord Jesus Christ."

I knew we were in for a classic when the author's committing to more eye-gouging.

user-pic

I hope you get nothing for your birthday! ;-{)> You know what I mean.

Happy, happy, joy, joy, this is a celebration!

user-pic

Kool & the Gang. Kool!!!

user-pic

DD, Yours is a voice unique, and it is a strong motivator as to why I come here. What I think I, and so many readers here, find attractive in your writing, is your blend of erudition, humor, humility, and your unquestionable good nature. We're all attracted to those human qualities which we would most like to foster in ourselves. I wish you a magnificent birthday mate!

user-pic

Miguel, like I said somewhere, You were the first to comment on nothingness.

You helped turn it into somethingness. haha

user-pic

I remembered the post before I went and reread it. I could have stopped my comment on it after the first word, ("Wow!"). That post blew me away.

user-pic

Happy Birthday, DD!

TPM is a better place since you arrived.

user-pic

Thank you Astral. And you are pretty good at kicking some ass in your own right.

user-pic

Happiest of days, Mr.Day.

user-pic

Oh Flower, thank you so much. I get the biggest kick out of you sometimes. hahaha

user-pic

all good things, DD. Happy birthday.

user-pic

Hey, thanks Gary. Thank you very much.

user-pic

Every dog has his day. And every blog has its dog and, it would seem, chicken as well. So greetings on your day, old pal.

As you can read here and elsewhere, many of us live in anticipation of your next blast. For me it is a feeling that is best captured by that line “Once more unto the breach..” As reluctant as I am becoming to read any more of the words of those hoplite infantrymen who daily defend the outrage that is the modern citadel, when I see your byline on a new post I think to myself, “OK. Once more unto the breach.” Like any crazy Irishman, all my songs are sad and all my wars are merry. You tap into songs and wars in a way that helps me contend with both. For that I am grateful.

I also hope that you are enjoying yourself in doing this. Take your leisure as you will and know that it is given to you by us with the same enthusiasm with which we send our compliments and thanks today and every day.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;

user-pic

Well do not skip my take on Cicero today Larry. It was as much fun as Shakespeare. hahaha

user-pic

Hail to thee, DickDay! The Happiest of B'Day wishes!

user-pic

Thank you so much Mr. Smith. I always appreciate your pointed comments.

Oh Wise Trickster Goddess, You Compassionate Conjurer of Relentless Change, You Righteous Rascal in Charge of Keeping a Steady Flow of Sacred Uproar Pouring into Our Lives:

Please continue to influence the masters of plutocracy and war and their media minions to be ever-more obvious as they spin out their perversions of your glorious creation, so that more and more of our sleeping tribe will wake up to the Open Secret.

Inspire the enforcers of mass hallucination to display their hypocrisy in an ever-escalating melodrama of spittle flecks and sour faces, as in a slapstick morality play from the Middle Ages, so that we, their captive audience, may convulse with purgative guffaws that shatter the mass hallucination.

And if you don't mind, Sweet Divine Rebel Goddess, please allow us to nurture a spark of hope that the breakdown in the Way Things Have Always Been Done will lead to fresh, hot, tidal-wave breakthroughs of beauty, truth, justice, equality and love everywhere we turn.

And now, in my capacity as Sacred Janitor of the Invisible Government of Sweaty Meditation,**

I hereby declare the birthday of dickday to be celebrated with all the chaos we can muster, from all of me to all of you.

Happy Birthday dd, our very own Righteous Rascal. You rawk and I love you!

**Borrowed from here and only changed slightly at the end.

user-pic

And how do I reply to THE person who gave me the wherewithall to continue? So many people helped me, but you, fifteen hundred miles away, get right into my new computer, which you sent me, and I am more than up and running.

I keep repeating myself, but at my age that is to be expected, but to get six tabs going while I have Word working...

It is so much fun not to get stuck anymore.

What is that word I am searching for? Where did I hear that? I know Cheney said such and such, but wherre and when?

It is there, on my keyboard.

Thank you so much my lovely Seashell!!

The End.

user-pic

Ah, my dear dd, I was ONE of the people in the TPM blognity (blog + community) that could not conceive of TPM without our dd supplying the daily dose of SHITSOPHRENIA for our political elucidation. We were a glum lot without you, that's for sure. LisB could have saved herself some effort if she had thought to call the librarian you were sucking up to first, before calling the hospitals!

However, it's probably true that I'm the only one coming into your computer at all hours of the day and night to make sure it's obeying your every whim. AhHaAhHa.

I wish my words were on my keyboard. Did I send you the wrong one by mistake? :-) See you in chat tonight?

user-pic

Yez. Cake, even.

user-pic

Our dickday blogs daily
with errant delights
i also hark back to
he gives me good knights

Here is wishing your birthday & all other days are filled with friends.

user-pic

Thank you much Thinkin, nice talking to ya in chat tonite!!!

user-pic

A very Happy Birthday to you and a wish for many more to come!

user-pic

I'm on my way out the door to work, but just had to pause long enough here to wish you a Happy Birthday, DDay! Your writings make nearly every day a birthday for all of us inasmuch as they are usually blessed with a gift or two from you in these pages. Thanks for that!

user-pic

Thank you Sleepin'. You have been putting in heavy hours. Hope you get a few extra bucks from lower gas prices than last year. Although they are up fifty cents recently.

Always good to hear from you.

user-pic

Murry says, "Happy DickDay, Birth"

sk says, "DD you do know that it is a TPM tradition to offer all of your birthday well wishers a tall one..." (If you don't believe me ask, Josh)

user-pic

THank you Steve. It certainly was not a dicked day today. A very fine day indeedy.

user-pic

Love ya Dickday, may this day be a special one for you.

Felix dies natalis! and many more.

user-pic

Thank you DonDi. It has been a very good week for me. Good writing, good reading....

DonDi, I really do love this place, no kidding.

user-pic

Happy Birthday DD! I award you, DD, a Birthday {{hug}} of the day.

user-pic

Hey FDR, woof, woof....

Always good to see you show up at a blog. Comments galore!!!

user-pic
user-pic

Happy birthday DD. You don't know it but your birthday today reminded me it is my sister's birthday as well. If I hadn't been reminded I wouldn't have sent her a e-card. If I didn't send her the e-card who knows what ramifications that might have had.

user-pic

That's right Mark. First causes and substantial contributing factors add to this life.

WHAT!!!

user-pic

Happy Birthday from a daily lurker!! I award you the Dayly Birthday Award!

user-pic

That is very sweet of you writergal. A nice surprise. Someone has been reading my stuff...and evidently enjoying it.

This just before I sleep.

How wonderful. Thank you so much!!!

user-pic

To my midwest neighbor who shares our cold winters:

Happy Birthday DD!

HERE COMES THE SUN...doo doo doo doo do

user-pic

Wow! I don't know anyone else whose birthday has even been noted! Have a cupcake, dd!

user-pic

TheraP,
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for this blog!
I hereby award you the Sweetest Heart Award
from all of me to all of you.

Your link to "Nothingness" was the most beautiful
place I'd never seen. Jumpin' Gemini! I will
always treasure it as celestial reasoning.

Such a fine birthday for double dickday AND us!
:-)

user-pic

Just caught this today, strato! Thanks for the award! (sorry I missed the ceremony) But perhaps "nothingness" was the reason....

user-pic

.

Dick . . .

I'm quite sure you'll understand where I'm coming from.

Birthday's are a dime a dozen and only come once per year.

So . . . Happy Life Day!

Every sunrise . . .

~OGD~

user-pic

Thank you OGD. You are the master of health care. You always keep me informed.

And you have the best avatar around!!! Watch me pull a rabbit...

user-pic

Late to the party, as usual these days. Haven't had a TPM fix in days, so ducked in to see what's up, only to find that I've all but missed your party!

Hope you had a great birthday, big brother. You KNOW how much you mean to me...

user-pic

Thank you Stilli. You still got all those grandkids running around?

user-pic

I sure do, Arthur. They are incredibly fun, but at my ripe old age, keeping up with them is a challenge! There is a reason why young women have babies and not old ones! But, I've lost about 5 lbs, just chasing after them, so that's a good thing!

This will be my life until they are all in school full time, and aside from the fact that I miss being able to veg out on TPM all day, I really do love it. Not many grandparents get to play this much of a role in their grandchildren's lives. I feel very blessed, and of course, my kids think I'm a saint...pretty good on the ego!

user-pic

You went through a lot, Stilli. You have a lot of energy and you seem happy, and that makes me happy.

No kidding. And you are a saint in my book!!!
