FINALLY, my hopes are coming to fruition. Colin Powell is READY to endorse...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lawrence-odonnell/colin-powell-is-ready-to_b_134777.html

If anyone has seen some of my blogs they would know that I believe this is the last endorsement that is important, and mainly the last endorsement to put the nail in McCain's coffin. Personally, this endorsement can assure some moderate Republicans that "the water is ok over here, don't worry." It can also control a days worth of the news narrative and for us, that is a good thing. I can't wait for it, but he has to make sure he times it correctly for maximum exposure.

Powell has made it clear that he has been thinking about an endorsement for a long time but wanted to hear more from the candidates before making his choice. It now seems beyond doubt that Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama and thereby hammer the final nail in the coffin of the Republican campaign to hold onto the White House

A Powell endorsement means nothing. Not to me, not to any "moderate Republican", not to anyone, really.

Time will tell now won't it. He is respected by many more Americans than the ones on the left, trust me.

Trust me, those who trust Powell are either ignorant, or full of shit.

Powell was the first to investigate -- and COVER UP -- the My Lai nmassacre.

Powell ADMITS knowingly lying to We the people, Congress, and the world in order to grease the skids for the Bush criminal enterprise's illegal invasion and occupation of a non-threatening sovereign nation.

And he did so despite knowing he was throwing away the lives of his troops for a lie, and for a lost cause.

The ignorant and fools respect that as "character" because they don't know the meaning of the word. To them Powell, and his endorsement, matters. Those who ACTIVELY support ethics, and Constitution and laws, couldn't care less about his endorsement.

I don't see it making any difference whatsoever. He may have had that respect at one time, but I find it hard to forgive him for his compliance in the Iraq War Big Sell. And I would imagine that those on the Right will just assume he endorsed Obama because he's Black.

It would be an important endorsement for Obama and shore up his position for any kind of October surprise --from BUsh or Osama bin Laden.

I assume the "October Surprise" mantra -- nonsensical as it is -- will continue into November when it doesn't materialize in October.

Colin Powell is 71 years old, he's been a suckup all his life, screwed Clinton on don't-ask-don't-tell, he helped get us into this Iraq mess by putting his "reputation" on the line at the UN.

So now he's going to maybe recommend Obama at the last minute when most poeoples' minds are already made up and Obama has all but cinched it?

Well fuck him. Thanks for the heavy lifting, Colin. Just like a blister, shows up when work's done.

I have to say the Huffington Post article doesn't give any proof that Powell is going to make any recommendation much less one of Obama. There is no indication of a source, with or without personal knowledge, even an unnamed source. It seems it's all based on Powell's statement quite awhile back that he needed more information. (But I don't recall him even then saying he would eventually endorse anyone -- his "need" for more information struck me as an artful dodge.) O'Donnell's supposition seems to be based on nothing more than the assertion that the final debate would give all the information necessary (or likely to be forthcoming) for an endorsement. Seems to me a slender reed to support this conclusion. Frankly, anyone that had to wait until this debate had to be a low information consumer to begin with.

I frankly doubt Powell will endorse Obama. He has been one loyal Republican so far. Just about everyone who was screwed by the Bushies has immediately gone public with their gripes. Not Powell. Whatever strange sense of loyalty he has, or whatever hold they have over him, kept him from pissing into the tent once he was on the outside. Maybe his son (a rightwing believer on the FCC) kept him from outing the truth. Surely if Powell was bothered by the neocon strangle-hold on foreign policy and the wreckage it has left of our reputation, security, and civil liberties (not to mention what it has done outside the US), he could have exposed it long since now. It's nearly been 4 years since he's been out, and not a discouraging word uttered.

Why anyone thinks he is going to get religion now, and hurt the chances of one of the charter members of the old boy network and his friend John McCain, is beyond me. It would probably help Obama, less so now than earlier, and even less as every day passes. The train is almost out of the station. If he is going to do it, he should do it now. Otherwise, we can get along without him. But what would induce him to do so, I just don't see.
