Heil Heil the gangs all here!

I really liked Reagan, he was the first President I was old enough to vote for. He offered hope when Carter offered only gloom. Carter blamed the people for the economic problems, Reagan blamed the government. As much as I liked him as a man and as a president, I never thought he was my boss, or that I served him. Now look at what is going on today with the left. President Obama is addressing ALL public schools, giving a speech after which the White House has suggested all students be required to write a paper on what they can do to help the President. There is a video that has been played in many schools (available on youtube, search for I pledge allegiance to Obama) wherein students are encouraged to recite a pledge of allegiance to Obama, and to pledge to serve Obama. Not the country. Obama. This is the typical cult of personality crap right out of 3rd world and communist/fascist dictatorships everywhere. Remember "Heil Hitler" ?Seriously, what is wrong with you people? And what does it tell us about Obama and his staff that they would organize this stuff? Can you not see the danger of worshiping the man, of pledging allegiance to the leader instead of the country? What would you have said had Bush required students to pledge allegiance to him? You would have lost your freakin' minds! (And sadly it now looks like you have done just that)

Oh give me break did you even read what Obama is talking about? He is not and I repeat not asking students to write a paper about they can do to help him. Please read exactly what is going on here.

None of what you say is true. The YouTube video is a hoax

http://www.ed.gov/admins/lead/academic/bts.html

He is talking about taking personal responsibility for your education. You would think that Republicans would appaud this, but no because it coming out of Obama's mouth it must in some way be bad.

Clever ever once in awhile you need to step away from Beck and his ilk.

Facts don't seem to work with people bulldog. Next up: Obama responsible for releasing the H1N1 pandemic upon the world as part of his master plan to rule the world.

CB,

How you are able to assert the message into 'what they (students) can do to help the President' must mean you are using a resource I am unable to find. Please note the resource and post here for our reference.

This is basis of all I could discover:

The U.S. Department of Education is launching the "I Am What I Learn" video contest. On September 8, students will be invited to see the president’s challenge and create videos, up to two minutes in length, describing the steps they will take to improve their education and the role education will play in fulfilling their dreams....."

Thus, you can understand our interest in identifying and reviewing the source you reference.

Also: Beginning this Friday, the website www.ed.gov/iamwhatilearn will be active for all to obtain more information.

Thanks and as soon as I am able to review your source I will be glad to engage in civil discourse about this issue.

user-pic

Ok I will be the very first admit that I mislabeled the video. You are correct it was created by a bunch of progressive actors. While I will readily admit it's a bit syrupy and over the top what are they really talking about? Answering the call to do more for our country by volunteering.

So I will smack myself for being wrong and apologize. Now Clever will you admit you are wrong about what Obama's speech to students is all about?

user-pic

ps. It was directed by Demi Moore and was presented to Obama at the inauguration and was not distributed beyond YouTube and was not put up by the Obama administration.

user-pic

Well, it was played for a number of schools. The report I found it in was from the Salt Lake Times, and it was shown in their schools, so it was distributed beyond youTube. Now, I don't object to a call for more service, what I object to is the blatant partisan political nature of it and specifically the appeal to pledge support to the man, not the country. Even Obama's people now realize the homework about 'how to help the president' was over the top. And I repeat, if it was Bush, the left would have come completely unhinged over it.

user-pic

Please link he Salt Lake story that this says video was played in schools. Also please make sure it says the Department of Education and or someone from the Obama Administration directed them to do so.

Next please show me where in any of the suggested activities that students may engage in pre and post speech where they are directed to write a paper on how to help the President. If you are going to tell me they changed it so it's no longer there, I am going to call BS. I have the Class Room activities guides written before the firestorm created by Fox and the idiot rep from Florida. I would be happy to share with you.

However here are the sections a they pertain to writing anything:

• Quick Write or Think/Pair/Share (Students spend a few minutes Thinking and writing about the question; Paired with another student to discuss, then Sharing their ideas with the class as a whole). What do we associate with the words responsibility, persistence, and goals? How would we define each term? A teacher might create a web of student ideas for each of the words. • Quick Write or Brainstorm: What are your strengths? At what are you successful as a person/student? What makes you successful at these efforts? List at least three things you are successful at and why you feel successful with these tasks.
Now I want you to write your own personal academic goal for this year and steps you will take to achieve it. We can revise our steps each marking period to make sure we are on track.

No offense the very last people I am going to believe on anything pertaining to Obama is Faux News.

user-pic

And it was shown in one school. Not number of schools.

user-pic

The Washington Times was first to report Thursday that the plan was being reconsidered. Presidential aides also acknowledged to the newspaper that they helped the U.S. Education Department write the suggested assignments, which stirred criticism by many who say Obama is trying to indoctrinate the education system.

Excerpted from the link I provided, but I guess you won't trust the Washington Times either. All part of the vast right wing conspiracy.

user-pic

Right Wing conspiracy? No. I just find the Washington Times' fact checking to be a little less than sterling. They confuse opinion with fact. They are entitled to their own opinion they are not entitled to their own facts.

user-pic

Actually I'm glad there was a link to it here. There's nothing in that video to which I wouldn't pledge. (I probably wouldn't kiss that guy's muscles, but then he probably wouldn't ask me to). Why the not very clever bulldog objects so strenuously to a vision of a country where citizens take their duty to each other seriously is beyond me. I feel sorry for someone as egocentric.

user-pic

I couldn't get sound, but I have seen this...

However what does this have to do with your assertion about the students? What schools have played this video and what has the school teachers/staff included (other videos, cites) and verbalized to the students? Again, resources please.

Thanks.

And why all the Nazi references? I believe you are much smarter and wiser than resorting to this type of scare tactics and irrational blather. Please, let's agree to disagree about politics, but also agree to not engage in this brand of discourse.

user-pic
I believe you are much smarter and wiser than resorting to this type of scare tactics and irrational blather.

No, he's not. He is what is commonly known as a moron, to say nothing of an utter asshole. Also, a jerk, a punk, a doofus, a troll, a nuisance, a pathetic excuse for a human being, and a whole lot more that I just don't feel like typing right now, besides which, I have to get ready to go to work.

Knock him down, then kick him a few times. It's all his ilk understands.

user-pic

Practice it a few more times so you get it right - "Do you want fries with that, sir?" Now, you're ready for another work day, so french kiss your mother good bye and head on down to the bus stop, you don't want to be late.

user-pic

You wish, troll.

What you don't know would fill the Library of Congress.

user-pic

It was played at least in the Salt Lake school district, because the original story came from the Salt Lake Times. Now, as far as Nazi references, I don't think it is inappropriate to point out where this type of cult of personality leads to. I am not saying Obama is a Nazi, but he should be aware of how this type of thing looks and the dangers in making these types of appeals.

user-pic

Thanks. Please provide link for source/cite as requested. Without date and specifics, difficult to identify.

user-pic

I found it.

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_13249171

Here's the problem. It was shown by a principal who did it of his own accord. And I have to agree I think teachers should stay well away from politics no matter what they believe be it my side or the other.

and to quote from the article:

Chris Williams, Davis School District spokesman, said school principal Ofelia Wade and school PTA leaders decided to show the video as part of an assembly about the school's theme for the year, service. He said the PTA board chose the video and Wade did not see it before it was shown in the assembly. "It got to a point where she turned to her assistant and said, 'Oops, I wish I would have seen this before. I don't think I would have shown it,' " Williams said. He said Wade could see how some adults might find the video political.
user-pic

Thanks.

CB, you are taking this as your sole source? I'm really flummozed that you would misrepresent and overtly generalize what appears to be an isolated incident.

C'mon. Stop this if you wish me (or others) to consider your posts credible.

user-pic

Why does it appear to be an isolated incident? Because I posted one link? Do you really think no other school did the same thing? Based on what? Did you read the post about the speech? It contained the same sort of 'support the leader' type of nonsense. Now, tell me truthfully, if Bush/Cheney had proposed to deliver a speech to all students, asking them to 'support the president', and some neo con group produced a video pledging allegiance to Bush and you found it had been played in at least one school, what would you say?

user-pic

Forgot one that needs stating: An egregious insult to "man's best friend", canis familiaris.

user-pic

Blow it out your sorry ass, troll.

You are one of the most pathetic examples of wasted human DNA this site has ever seen.

Go apologize to your mother for having been born.

And pre-emptively, yes, I choose to not address what you posted. It is so pathetic as to warrant no reply, with this exception: I wish John Hinckley had the good sense to use a .38.

You, on the other hand, deserve a good thrashing, and I'm only regretting that it has to be verbal.

user-pic

Well your post pretty much says it all about you. You wish the president had been killed. Nice. Nothing more needs to be said about a sorry piece of trash like you.

user-pic

So fucking what? Do you honestly think I care what you think or feel? Unless it's pain, that is. That I like.

user-pic

Much as I love you sweet pea, and as much as I understand your frustration...that's a little rough.

user-pic

This a prime example of what is screwed up in this country. When I was a child, I had no clue if a president was a good president or a bad president. Regardless of party, he was our president, and I was taught to respect him. My parents did not bad mouth the president in front of us kids. (I'm sure they had plenty to say behind closed doors.)

When Kennedy was assassinated, the whole country mourned. If that were to happen today, it would not surprise me to see a lot of people high fiving in the streets.

It's appalling and disgusting that there has to be a debate about our PRESIDENT talking about education and service to their country to school children. We have plenty of time to teach them hate and intolerance, why not patriotism, critical thinking skills, manners and morals instead?

user-pic

I'm sure a lot of liberals (like old grouch, read his post above) would have celebrated Bush's death. I have no problem with talking about education and service, I do have a problem with making it political and calling on people to 'serve the president' and to 'pledge allegiance to Obama'. That is what I objected to.

user-pic

And where in this speech to students or pre/post speech activities does the administration make it political or call on people to 'serve the president' or to 'pledge allegiance to Obama?

Again I ask you to read the material sent to the schools that I linked for you. Or are you afraid to because it just might be counter to what you want to believe as opposed to what is actually happening.

Clever I know we do not agree politically and that's fine, but seriously a little independent verification would have been smart.

As to celebrating harm coming to Bush? No matter what I thought of him as a President I would not have wished or prayed nor celebrated it.

user-pic

"I pledge allegiance to the funk; The United Funk of Funkadelica!"

PS Are you kidding about politicization after what Bush did to the WH, DOJ, most every agency in the federal government and even to State Dept. and other staff sent to Iraq? Monica "oath to serve the President" Goodling? 150 staffers from Pat Robertson's "school"? Sending a governor to the pen for being a Democrat?
