Obama to push for new gun ban
After only a month in office, and with the economy sliding further into chaos, Obama's AG Eric Holder has just announced he intends to push for re-instating the 'Assault Weapons' ban, along with a ban on 'Cop killer' bullets and closing of the 'gun show loophole'. Of course, Obama said repeatedly that gun owners had nothing to fear from him, that he supported gun rights. I knew he was lying of course, and now he has made it clear that he was. The justification of this ban is to stop the violent Mexican drug cartels, who are armed with machine guns and grenades (as per the ABC news story). Of course, these have been banned for decades, so that is simply another lie. As far as 'cop killer' bullets, they never were sold to the public, they were law enforcement use only. In fact they were manufactured by a company founded by retired police. Holder expanded the media-hype term to include any bullet that can penetratebody armor, which means almost ALL rifle ammo. Just like the 'gun show loophole', which is not a loophole and has no connection to gun shows (it simply means private citizens who are not gun dealers can sell one or two guns per month to other citizens without federal dealer license or 4473 paperwork), Holder (and we must presume his puppet master) is a liar. Personally, I am shocked that Obama lied to get elected. Really, shocked.

Obama's Acceptance Speech In Denver: "The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang-violence in Cleveland, but don't tell me we can't uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals."

Uh, it seems to me there is a difference between 'keeping them out of the hands of criminals' and banning them for everyone. And Holder is talking about a national policy, not a local one. So your point is what, exactly?

I know you hate the NYTimes, but this is just a story not an opinion piece. So give it a read.

The story had many factual errors, specifically regarding the paperwork involved in gun sales. It also does not address the fact that Holder referred to grenades and machine guns, which cannot be bought in the US. I have a problem with the government claiming I must give up my rights because other people are violating existing laws. Did anyone notice that the drugs the cartels were smuggling are illegal everywhere? How'd they get them?

Bulldog!
AMAZING how your post ended up between The Obnoxious American and (allegedly) Middle Class Bill.
Do you all chat and plan these little assaults?

"As far as 'cop killer' bullets, they never were sold to the public, they were law enforcement use only."
Then why are you barking so loudly about the notion of making them illegal for you to possess? Seems like reflexive barking. Oh, wait, let me guess, it's the old "slippery slope" canard, right? Such thinking has so polarized us that we cannot make pragmatic reasonable decisions. Your supposed to be a bulldog, damnit, grow a pair and stop barking at your own frightened imagination.

The reason is simple. Under the guise of banning 'cop killer' bullets, the law would ban all ammo capable of penetrating a buletproof vest. That would mean all rifle ammo and a lot of pistol ammo. It is a backdoor attempt to ban guns by banning the ammo.

I mean, seriously, "cop killer bullets"?! C'mon: who could possibly support "cop killer bullets" (other than the "baby killer bullet" supporters)?
Well, look beyond the marketing here. What they're talking about banning is common, run-of-the-mill rifle ammunition, not some magic armor-piercing bullet (which, though they do exist, are already illegal for non-police types of have!)
So before you accuse others of kneejerk reactions, perhaps you should research a little bit?
