Good so far, John. Now see if you can take that to the next step.

Here's a couple of hints:

-- Everyone talked about John Edwards' and Dan Quayles' looks, too, as well as their lack of substance, so this <is or is not> gender-related.

-- If John Edwards and Dan Quayle had posed on the cover of magazines in ways that empasized primary or secondary sexual characteristics, Tankard <would or would not> have been all over it.

-- Tankard <could or could not> really give a shit whether you consider him sexist and will <stop or continue> toying with you the very moment that doing so ceases to amuse him.

No, actually, it would not require a Constitutional amendment. The cloture rule is a simple Senate rule. A 51-vote majority could change it. Permanently. The Republicans called this "the nuclear option." It would mean the death of protection for large minorities.

To make this about "religion" misses the point!
I strongly disagree. How can you write post about a celibacy rule that makes no sense outside of a religious context, then say that this is not about religion? Of course it's about religion! Celibacy is about religion. The Catholic Church -- aka the Vatican -- is about religion. The abortion debate is mostly about religion. Religion has fundamental influence on political behavior almost everywhere in the world almost every day.

In other words, and at risk of being annoyingly repetitive, religion poisons everything.
