What's Yer Ringtone?
So much gloom around here. Cheney hit list, old fishwives' tales, people apologizing right and left, mostly left.
So what's yer ringtone? And what does it say, if anything, about your politics?
And if you don't have a cellphone, like Mr. Crankypants probably doesn't, how did you jigger the ringer thingie on the rotary dial phone by your bedside table? Or are you totally off the grid except for borrowed Internet at the laundromat on old Route 40.

Well up until recently it was "London Calling" by the Clash. But then I switched to "Straight to Hell", also by the Clash. I think it's cool that when my phone rings it sings "Go straight to hell, boys....go straight to hell, boys."

Yes, there's a minister's blog that I admire that had one, and I thought it would be *perfect* for TPM. Gotta add more books, though.

'Lives of Monster Dogs' reminded me of this one about a genetically engineered 'good' dog. I'll give Monster Dogs a look.

When I get a call, my phone plays Jimi Hendrix - Star Spangled Banner from Woodstock. It's got everything in it that America has - magnificence, grandeur, beauty and tenderness - also overwhelming violence, aggression and suffering. Maybe not ideal for a ringtone, but I'm gonna let my freak flag fly! Usually doesn't get past the first few notes when I take a call, except when I'm in the car - I don't know how many times I've been listening to music in the car at high volume and thought to myself, "Wow, I never noticed that cool little part there before!", then realized it was my phone - usually just as it was going to voicemail. Amazing how that impressionistic collage of sound can blend into so many other melodies (at least when they are cranked to a physically satisfying level).
Lis, I like your Clash choices. And Molly, thanks for asking the question! What does your phone play?

I just switched to a BlackBerry last week and the old ringtone didn't transfer. The old phone had Darius Rucker's "Don't Think I Don't Think About It."
The new device has Jeremih's "Birthday Sex" which is a brand new song about a guy who forgot to give his girlfriend a "real" present on her birthday. Listen to it sometime; it's very catchy.
I guess these tunes mean that I'm open to new ideas and music even though I play Stones and Springsteen (CDs and Sirius radio) almost non-stop in the car.

LOVE the bookshelf...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Hope you feel flattered, I stole it!
BTW, just a stock ringtone on my iphone, has a bamboo windchime feel to it...no political statement (or any statement really!) Just like it!

Yes, Shelfari (the image of books on a bookshelf that shows a book review for each book when you do a mouse rollover) is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. It doesn't seem to show up in Internet Explorer, though.
For the record, my ringtone is so new I haven't been embarrassed by it in public (yet) although I did play it for the hairdressers at the salon.
A windchimey tune you have might be better for all purposes than my outre tune.
