Torture Faux News Style (100 days of Obama Bashing)

We've been debating in great detail what is and isn't torture, did we torture, who authorized it, how harmful is it, etc., etc.

Well, come to find out all the torture did not occur on foreign soil. Those of us who stay away from Faux News were not subjected to it, but a large portion of the country was...

This video is hard to watch, but if you love your country, you owe it to yourself to see what is being done to your fellow countrymen (and women.)

There was some discussion on another thread yesterday about how in some areas of the country the only cable news available on basic cable is Faux. That would certainly explain why their ratings are so much higher than those of MSNBC. But I digress. The point is, this is what your fellow citizens are being subjected to. When you write your elected officials regarding torture, you may want to mention this, as well. If this is not considered torture, it should be. If I had to listen to this crap day after day after day, I would confess to anything to make it stop.

I rec'd this SI, but now I'm not sure why, as I've got a cloud of gloom hovering over my head. I suspect someday, we'll have a word to describe Fox's type of reporting, that will stand shoulder to shoulder with 'Yellow Journalism".

user-pic

Oh wait. We all ready have a word. It's 'propaganda'.

user-pic

Gotta admit, piggy, it reminded me of why I don't watch Faux...But every once in awhile you have to check in to see what the other side is being bombarded with. If this is the only thing you hear day in and day out, it's no wonder there are so many whackos running around. Propaganda is a good word for it.

Just about any public office, waiting room, etc. with a television has it tuned to either the Weather Channel or Faux News. It's excrutiating.

My son received a hugh flat screen hd blah blah blah tv. So he brought me his 31 incher that weighs a hundred pounds. In my little apartment, it is like haveing a huge movie screen.

Anyway, he forgot the remote. Without the remote I cannot get the tvlisting channel (which I need not because of this fine pc), one CSPAN channel, the old movie channel AND FOX NEWS. hahahahhaha

But Ed, Keith and Rachel keep me updated with videos. yuck.

I told Seashell that the only time to watch Fox in the last few years was Nov 2006 and November 2008,
To watch these bigots cry real tears, hahahahahah.

user-pic

The ol' 18 incher just wasn't doin' it fer ya, huh? Goodbye form-fitting jeans, hello 'super-relaxed fit' jeans.

user-pic

Whenever confronted with the Faux, I am always reminded of Clockwork Orange. -What did i do to deserve this?

user-pic

Yep, that is pretty much what my TV looks like and my radio sounds like around here, unless I pay the cable company extra for a progressive channel (MSNBC). Some parts of the state do not get that option (no MSNBC).

Good post Stilli and thanks also for your reply yesterday on JesseLavas post, it was a lot of help
and comfort to me personally.

Glad to be of service, Dondi...you are welcome.

One day I was getting my teeth cleaned and my hygienist had the t.v. on Fox News. They were reporting on Hurricane Katrina, and were showing the horrifying images we associate with the disaster. My hygienist said, "I bet "those people" are all on welfare anyway, who needs 'em?"

She didn't work there much longer, but the next hygienist I had lectured me on Intelligent Design and told me that no atheist could ever have any hope for anything. I started to argue with her, but she got agitated and took it out on my gums (talk about torture!).

When I think of Fox News fans, these are the people I think of. Probably not fair to many, but I can't help it.

Whew! Thank God repubs are now only 20% of the population! Otherwise we'd see robots everywhere.

I now understand what was blasted in those cells day and night. And they're trying it out in living rooms in the US. Bot-nets will be constructed, using these programs and American living rooms.

The rest of us 80% need to stick together!

Fear, hate and ignorance are driving Republicans. They don't even try to hide it anymore. The GOP is now a party of right-wing extremists. Watching that video clip, I was reminded of those stories from the sinking of the Titanic, where the band played to keep the doomed calm while the ship sank. That's Fox, they're the band playing sweet music to the base while the GOP ship sinks beneath an icy sea.

One issue of concern. I travel quite a bit for my work. I stay in hotels all over the place and find myself looking at various sources for news and entertainment but consistenly local cable offerings. What I have noticed is that most include Fox News as an option. Some include CNN. But MSNBC as an option is rare.

My point is that this propaganda is widely available and believed to be news by many unaware americans.

I had to explain to my own mother last year that FOX was not a 'news' channel. Seriously, she did not know. Fox is like a 24 hour a day commercial for propaganda, fear mongering, etc. AND many americans don't know that this is not news much like many watch a lot of television and sit through commercials trusting and believing information as it is presented... not understanding that they are being 'marked' or 'marketed'.

My father used to spout Bill O Reilly to me until he found himself friends with a gay couple (which was a miracle because my father was like Archie Bunker, prejudiced) and they were able to open his eyes.

Maybe we need to start a truth in advertising campaign agains Fox. T-Shirts & Bumper Stickers with slogans pointing out to the public that they are using them. They are NOT news...

user-pic

I was thinking something like

FOX(Not)News

Brainwashing Americans Serving Their Own Agenda

Etc.

user-pic

What you are saying is so true. It doesn't seem right somehow...That "fair and balanced" crap is just that...crap. I don't see how they can get away w/ it, and I certainly don't see how the FCC allows it to continue.

How about Faux News - unfair and imbalanced?

user-pic

Thanks. You've inspired me. I am going to post a blog in the am and see if we can get some good ideas about how to respond to. If we could create a widely disseminated slogan, that actually could be meaningful. I hope that we can come up with something simple, thought-provoking and turn it into a common catch phrase.

FOX News Network -
Crazy like a ...
No, just CRAZY.

user-pic

Why does Fox News hat America?

user-pic

Good question, O...I hav no answer.
