What Do You Think...II ?

Earlier today I made a post on the following subject and one of the comments asked for further info...I should have posted the link to the actual Assembly Bill, so I am re-posting w/ that link...Also, Billy chided me for using the word "concerned"...just pretend it isn't there!

Being fairly new to TPM I'm unaware of all the various subjects that have been covered ad nauseum, so if this is one of them let me apologize in advance...

I received an e-mail in my inbox that has ME mildly concerned, and I'm wondering if it is because of my "conservative" roots, or if there are other moderates/liberals that would just as soon steer clear of this issue in the schools...

The California legislature has passed AB 2567 which makes May 22 "Harvey Milk Day" and requires public schools to "conduct suitable commemorative exercises" in his honor. (For those of you who don't remember, Harvey Milk was an anti-religious Gay activist San Francisco Supervisor who was murdered.)

My gut feeling is that this is a subject that doesn't need to be addressed in elementary school. Parents should be able to decide at which point they want to teach their children about homosexuality.

What do you think?

Ability to Compromise... a Character Flaw?

Since when? Even my 3 year old granddaughter was quick to understand the concept of compromise...

Some call it flip flopping, and if it is done purely to snow or pander to a segment of the voters, it's not good...But, if it's done in order to actually get moving on a problem, it is.

Obama is a brilliant man. He understands at the most fundamental level that compromise is the ONLY way to get a country that is as polarized as ours is moving in the right direction.

His compromises are not a matter of character defict...they are evidence that he REALLY does want to be President of the United States, not President of the Democratic Party...

Here is a man who understands that  no one is going to get everything they want, and compromise is needed to get ANYTHING done. We can be hard asses and demand that everything go along with what we want (in which case nothing gets done) OR compromise and start heading in the right direction, then revisit later and get closer to what we want, then revisit later and get closer...you get the point.

I think it is brilliant and just what this country needs...I for one intend to embrace his compromises rather than berate him for them and see how quickly he can get us to where we hope to be as a nation...I believe with all my heart that he is correct in saying that the things that bind us are so much more important than the things that divide us. If we all work together and give a little here and there we can make this country once again the shining example to the world that it used to be.

Ever since joining this forum a few short weeks ago my husband thinks I've run off with another man and my kids think I was abducted by aliens and given a brain transplant. I spend an inordinate amount of time reading, posting replys, then revisiting later to see if anyone either cared about/validated what I said, or if it provoked further thought/discussion. Now I'm starting to think about you all as my second family...I have to admit that has me wondering if I should check myself  into a 12 step program for political junkies...

This morning husband e-mailed me the following artcle from the "Onion" and since I found it to be rolling-on-the-floor funny, I think I'm okay...for now.

Hope you enjoy it!
