Class Acts: Conservitive Pundits Attack Pelosi's Looks!
Remember the rights' shock and outrage when Wanda Sykes had the "immoral" turpitude to poke fun at their Patron, Saint Limbaugh, comparing El Rushbo to a 9/11 hijacker, at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.
Remember the self-righteous indignation of the Buchanan's, and Parker's, and Noonan's, so much so that White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had to distance the president from the her remarks. (In cause you forgot or you just need a good giggle, the joke was; "I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker, but he was just so strung out on Oxycontin he missed his flight." Of course, there are a lot of topics that are better left for serious reflection rather than comedy.")
Well where are these same keepers of politically correct flame as the comrads of these same holier then thou, media figures attack Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi. "Oh the humanity." (Oh, the Hannity!)
Media Matters, who should be nominated for Sainthood, has the story; Yet again, media figures respond to a Pelosi controversy with attacks on her looks:
Please, we can get along here. We all can get along. I mean, we're all stuck here for a while. Let's try to work it out. Let's try to beat it. Let's try to beat it. Let's try to work it out. - Rodney King

Media Matters, who should be nominated for Sainthood, has the story; Yet again, media figures respond to a Pelosi controversy with attacks on her looks:
Commenting on the controversy surrounding what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was told about the Bush administration's use of harsh interrogation techniques, numerous media figures have resorted to attacking Pelosi's looks.
Historically speaking:
- During the May 17 edition of CNN's State of the Union, CNN contributor Alex Castellanos claimed that "if Speaker Pelosi were still capable of human facial expression, we'd see she'd be embarrassed...
- During the May 15 broadcast of his radio show, referring to Pelosi, Neal Boortz said he was going to talk about "how fun it is to watch that hag out there twisting in the wind."
Gee, I thought Luntz had a modicum of class. Of course for the topper, the honor should, and needs to go to, Saint Limbaugh:
- On the June 30, 2008, edition of his radio program, Michael Savage said of Pelosi: "It's Mussolini at work -- Mussolini in a skirt with bad rouge; Mussolini if he came back and wore ugly clothing and put on bad makeup and had too much Botox. He would be calling for the Fairness Doctrine, assuming he would still own the winery and the bad restaurant chain."
- During the October 31, 2006, edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes, Republican pollster Frank Luntz said of Pelosi: "I always use the line for Nancy Pelosi, 'You get one shot at a facelift. If it doesn't work the first time, let it go.' "
If your blood's not to a full boil, yet ... there's a video...
- On the January 26 broadcast of his program, Limbaugh claimed that if Pelosi "wants fewer births, I have the way to do this -- and it won't require any contraception: You simply put pictures of Nancy Pelosi -- in every cheap motel room in America today. That will keep birthrates down because that picture will keep a lot of things down."
Please, we can get along here. We all can get along. I mean, we're all stuck here for a while. Let's try to work it out. Let's try to beat it. Let's try to beat it. Let's try to work it out. - Rodney King

They forgot to call her "shrill," didn't they?
It's like hearing a drunk person start insulting others. You kinda wish they'd stop reflecting so badly on themselves with the low level of conversation.

"They forgot to call her "shrill""
I'm sure we could find one filed under, Hillery.
Your right, the way they speak of others reflects back on themselves. Guess that's why they are at 21%, and falling, and flailing, and failing.
Thanks for the comment.

This is delightful. Fricking hypocrites. But what else is new.
Oh yeah, WE MUST POINT IT OUT WHEN THEY ACT HYPOCRITICALLY.
Good job.

Thing that worries me puppy, is that a lot of youngsters think that's "normal" behavior.
=(
Maybe it is.

They dress it up and call it honesty, when it's just their opinion. They demand we allow them Freedom of Speech. When I hear people make those assertions I remark, "no, that's not honest, that's mean. You're being a jerk." If they reply they have Freedom of Speech, I remark that I do too. "If you wish to use your voice to say something stupid I have the right to say so. Freedom of Speech does not mean everyone has to agree with you, or stay silent."

Okay, I can give it a try -
Hey, Rush, looked in the mirror lately?
But, he started it, so it's his fault!
Did that make me feel better? No, not really.
The point I'm trying clumsily to make is that we can choose to sink to their level or show them by example how to lead and not follow them on their path that only leads to 'Nowhere Good'.
Why is it that so many who tout their intellect and wisdom really show the opposite when the best they can do is resort to these type of attacks? Oh, what...
It's because ....
(Nevermind, I almost turned to the 'right' and ended up in the wrong.)

Is it just me, or do these guys really pile on the hate when it's a woman? I didn't think a group could hate anyone as much as they hated Hillary, but Nancy's running a close second, if not evenly tied. I know Noonan with her re-enhanced infrastructure is in the group and prolly J-Lo, but they don't seem to hate as MUCH.
Is it the power these woman have? Because in the game of power, both have been and still are, right up there in the power stakes.
Maybe it's because Democrats don't get so hung up on the whole hierarchal thing, but we seem to despise their peeps under an equal opportunity agenda.
Or is it just me?

Sarah Palin was attacked much more than what Pelosi is getting right now. They've only been at it with Pelosi really hard for a few weeks. With Palin the hate attack went on for months. And it was much more hateful than Pelosi.

Months? Nancy Pelosi has been getting these kinds of attacks--"hag," "botox," etc.--for years. She's often accused of being cynical, shifty, a typical politician, etc., but that's another matter altogether.
As for Palin, the bulk of her ridicule had nothing to do with her appearance; rather, she kept saying and doing stupid things. Her sorry performance on those Couric interviews were an embarrassment to this country.

what about going after her pregnant daughter? Creating lies that the daughter was the actual mom of Palin's down syndrome baby?

the only thing that was said about Palins looks were referring to the 150,000 dollars she spent on clothes. And that came from Repubs, mostly!
worthlesscitizen in reply to a comment from MiddleClassBill is a stupid repub, because he STILL doesn't get it:
Attacking the Speaker on her goddamn LOOKS, is soooo shallow, when you could be attacking her on the issue.
But since repubes got NOTHING, they're only left with:
"Oh she LOOKS bad ...."
and
"Yes we tortured, but, since we TOLD her about it, that makes it OK"

MiddleClassBill is a stupid repub, because he STILL doesn't get it:
Attacking the Speaker on her goddamn LOOKS, is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from attacking Palin on the stupid things Palin DID and SAID. Palin LIED, repeatedly. Pelosi DID NOT lie.
But since repubes got NOTHING, they're only left with:
"Oh she LOOKS bad ...."
and
"Yes we tortured people, but, since we TOLD Pelosi about it, that makes it OK"
adding:
They didn't tell her.
Waterboarding is torture is I-effing-LEGAL

Pelosi has changed her story multiple times. Leon Panetta has told us that the CIA disagrees with her version of the "truth"
As for Palin, my point is that people went after her with personal attacks just like some people are doing with Pelosi. It comes with the territory of being in politics. Get over it.

Don't worry about it. Pelosi doesn't think it matters when it happens to other women politicians or herself.
"I myself find that I get a tremendous upside from being a woman and I don't spend a lot of time worrying about sexist remarks that people make." ~ Speaker Pelosi

And given the behavior of some progressives in the primary, there's not a lot of room to call out asshat conservatives on this issue for the same things some "class act" progressives were doing to Hillary.

Yeah, what you point out would be hypocrisy, but according to the mainstream media rules, it's okay for the white republicans to do these sort of smear attacks.

Republicans/Conservatives can't help it. It's just who they are. Such comments are truthfully a reflection of the mentality level at which they honestly operate. The real concern, IMO, is that the MSM doesn't strongly call out the GOP on its endemic juvenility.
May 20, 2009 11:06 AM | Reply | Permalink
There it is! The MSM is totally incapable and unwilling to call the GOP out on their sh*t. I struggle with the thought whether it is one or the other. There is a part of me that wonders if they completely lack the ability to recognize smack talk when they hear it, in which case they are incapable. But, since they have their sponsors to consider, it may simply be unwilling, which is a sad comment on their ethics, but when it comes to work. so many of us compromise.
May 20, 2009 12:38 PM | Reply | Permalink
I tend to think the reasons are:
1) The MSM always seeks to stoke non-issues in to issues, and issues in to controversies because doing such results in boosted ratings. The media has learned that there is more profit in creating drama than in accurately reporting the news.
2) Democrats who debate Republicans on TV almost always appear weaker and less sure of their argument. I believe such characteristics are a healthy sign of humility by Democrats, it doesn't "play" well over the tube. What we need are more James Carvilles and Paul Begalas, and fewer forgettable Democratic "strategists" appearing.

Trust me, Pelosi is tough. I have been to townhall meetings where she had to deal with much harsher language and situations. She is tougher than nails; don't let her gentle side fool you.
Now that doesn't mean I condone one comment bandied about by the opposition. Still I think you have to be tough to take on the role of Speaker in the United States.

But wait -- lizardlike slimeball Dick Morris is telling us Pelosi needs o go:

Pelosi has always been good at turning the knife with a smile. That's the kind of hardball player you want. Not someone who looks weak (Reid) or looks too angry (any of the GOP).

Laura Bush never had any animation in her face, but I think it is because she was just playing a role. Botox would have been an excuse all those Texas ladies would accept, but that wasn't Laura's way. She didn't go the surgery route; her completely flat face was just ennui from staying with a guy who is obviously a dope, but gee - she just couldn't give up all the perks.
Note: This is not making fun of her appearance; only her values.

They learned this kind of nastiness from rush. I used to listen to him for laughs until one day he made some ugly comments about Chelsea Clinton's looks. This was way back in the early nineties when Chelsea was just a little girl. I've loathed the man since then and have never listened to him again.
