Global Warming - I'll take mine medium rare...
I find it really amusing to watch so many people discuss a subject of which they are so ignorant. There are so many people living in fear of global warming.
Let me be the first to admit my ignorace, I am not a weather expert or climatologist. However, I am well educated in the sciences and have read a little about the subject. Global weather modelling is an incredibly complex undertaking, fraught with error. I have no opinion about whether global warming is fact or fiction, but even if I did, my opinion wouldn't mean a whole lot. However, I do think a few things are established:
Number 1 - Kyoto is a waste of time and effort, it will only divert resources to a wasteful effort that won't work. Just check out Bjorn Lomborg's opinion. This isn't an equation of graduated returns, it is essentially a threshold situation.
Number 2 - Lots of people think they know about global warming -- even people without an education sure do have strong opinions about it. These opinions are worthless.
Number 3 - Global Warming may or may not be harmful to the planet. Hopefully we won't wind up like Venus! But the fact that it might change things for the better is at least a small possibility.
Number 4 - Just because it "seems warmer" to you than when you were a little kid has nothing to do with global warming. Unless you were an extensive traveller and lived in a constant state of migration all over the world, never spending the night in the same place. And even if you did, it still doesn't matter.
Number 5 - Predicting the future is never as easy as it seems, even with fancy computers. I am referring to supercomputer models which accurately plot a timeline roughly similar to established data, then project a bleak pattern into the future. Seems to me that if they could predict the temperature in 2040, they should be able to tell what it will be next year.
