AFL-CIO Demands Public Option, President Obama. Are Working People Now The Extreme Left of the Party?.
Labor is standing up for the public option. The sheet metal workers three weeks ago. The AFL-CIO most recently. So, are unions and working people the extreme left of the party that this president wants to talk down? How absurd. If this president doesn't stand up for the public option, he goes down in history as just another politician. Change we thought we could believe in.

The unions have lost more and more clout every year for decades and decades except in the public sector.
Pitiful.
I watched the President's speech and I felt that he felt the support from the unions while he was demonstrating his support to the unions.
I am glad that the unions are standing up for the PUBLIC OPTION. And we shall see how the President responds tomorrow.

Given the excellent healthcare coverage the unions have already obtained for themselves, I believe that their stand is indicative of their finally getting the rectalcephalectomy they needed. It is a sign that unions now understand they need to represent all workers if they hope to grow.
It seems I always go back to this, but PATCO was an example of when unions thought only of their own members and failed to see the big picture. Who convinced the pilots, flight attendants and baggage handlers not to support the traffic controllers? That was the beginning of their decline.
If we achieve a decent HCR package, unions can take a lot of the credit and see a resurgence. They will be perceived as the ones who made it possible. It is too late for the Dems to take any credit for having the cajones to get it done. Unions will get the credit. As in my post elsewhere, this is when heroes are made.
