And how did his 91st birthday go?

Mandela Day is being celebrated by encouraging people to take 67 minutes of their day to do something for the good of humanity and the planet, in recognition of the 67 years Mandela devoted to making the world a better place.

The efforts, on Saturday, 18 July, are spearheaded by the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the 46664 Campaign. This year, the day will be widely celebrated across the world

"It is our hope that people will dedicate their time and effort to improve the conditions within their own communities. We thank you for participating in Mandela Day."

The national celebrations in South Africa for Mandela Day will begin at 9am at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Joburg. The City has also planned other celebrations.

Looks and sounds like good times indeed.

Hopefully Mandela's birthday will continue to ensure that next summer's FIFA World Cup stays in the country. The stadium building strike ended in the mid-week, and Mandela's birthday will hopefully continue the positive momentum heading into next year.
But besides the football (soccer) talk, just celebrating good news whenever everyone rational can be happy is indeed a welcoming reprieve for what we have been getting lately.

Especially if it's the birthday of an indelible world figure.

They were singing and dancing not only in Los Angeles yesterday, because the world is bigger than just Los Angeles.

They were singing and dancing in New York. They were singing and dancing in Detroit. They were dancing and singing in London. They were dancing and singing in Tokyo. They were singing and dancing most likely in Gary, indiana.

People were dancing and singing everywhere.

They were quiet, melancholy, in shock the whole day. But singing and dancing is what they began to do when someone started playing the music of the person that they soon began to sing and dance about.

Because they saw him sing and dance, and were inspired by it.

Yes, some in the back of their minds thought about the embarrassing moments in his life, the humiliating ones. Ones that he may have regretted, ones that have lead friends to leave him or betray him, even though they were never friends to begin with in the first.

And there are many in the back of their minds saying the same, and justified at times, "Why the hell is a celebrity getting more attention then what's wrong in Iran or Afghanistan or Iraq or Darfur or with health care, what is wrong with our American society!"

Even so, there were many (and still are many) who just keep on dancing and singing to not only alleviate a tragic time for them, but posthumously celebrate like they were at a concert watching him.

A dismembered soul can't do things like this. A dismembered soul wouldn't be able to have people randomly sing and dance on their streets.

He was much more than just a dismembered soul. The human spirit is an amazing thing.

In my post yesterday that was cross-posted at TPMCafe, NobleCommentDecider said that name and described to you who don't know that name or remember it, who he was
Doesn't everyone miss Jeff Gannon, the gay stud patsy masquerading as a reporter that GW Bush and Rove planted in press conferences with a White House pass, to ask questions about why Democrats were unpatriotic?
Outstanding point, isn't it? And here's footage of Mr. Gannon

Olbermann's report

I wonder where was the outrage and questioning from CBS' Mark Knoller, Hakcio's Calderon, and now Washington Post's Dana Milbank and the AP (Via Marcy Wheeler) .
The media sure does embarrass itself thanks to their amnesia problem.

      Crossposted at The Whole Delivery
After Obama called on Nico Pitney of the Huffington Post today in the press conference, the elite media have been going bonkers over that (and will continue to).

Hackio's doing their best to help fuel their anger
In what appeared to be a coordinated exchange, President Obama called on the Huffington Post's Nico Pitney near the start of his press conference and requested a question directly about Iran.

"Nico, I know you and all across the Internet, we've been seeing a lot of reports coming out of Iran," Obama said, addressing Pitney. "I know there may actually be questions from people in Iran who are communicating through the Internet. Do you have a question?"

Pitney, as if ignoring what Obama had just said, said: "I wanted to use this opportunity to ask you a question directly from an Iranian."
Then Calderone writes this
CBS Radio's Mark Knoller, a veteran White House correspondent, said over Twitter it was "very unusual that Obama called on Huffington Post second, appearing to know the issue the reporter would ask about."
Yup, Knoller said this:

Geez Knoller, maybe the reason why is because he READS him. You know the President can read whatever he wants to read, just like you Knoller.

It gets better ladies and gentleman.

Now Knoller has HIS GREAT PROOF

Ooooooooooo, Obama called on a Huffington Post writer after they talked to him this morning. What offensive propaganda. These blogs and new journalism sites are bias I say, bias.

No wonder why CBS is a thousand shades what it use to be, outside of 60 Minutes.

From The Whole Delivery

Jesus, to his disciples and many others at the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew Chapter 7, Verses 1-5:

1"Do not judge, or you too will be judged.

2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

But after that MySpace quality dreck that he wrote two weeks ago and the last week's "What the hell were you watching" hit piece on Obama's Cairo speech (I'm not even going to bother linking it, Simon officially stamps his title as the dumbest pundit in Washington D.C. with this title off his latest masterpiece:

If there was a bachelor's degree from stupidity, Simon would go well beyond even a magna cum laude. And even more appalling to the eyes is seeing the picture he uses for clinching column for his award:

And with that photo, he brings this up
But you can see why Democrats are nervous. Roland Burris, a political hack, muscled his way into the U.S. Senate by nakedly playing the race card, and now everybody is jumpy about any comments that seem to indicate one race should be favored over another. (Unless it is white people being favored, in which case there is rarely a controversy.)
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, the Burris connection. Simon sees a connection, and you have to see it because they ARE BOTH MINORITIES!!!

Roger Simon truly has earned this award, and that is saying something in this political landscape. The dumbest pundit in Washington is surly Hackio's main hack.

From TWD, Goodbye and sigh.
