Recommended. I was curious if you think we are entering a post-"whatever" world in terms of post-modern/ironic/too-cool-to-care.

One of the aspects of my Gen X brethren that I always found frustrating was this sense that to show emotion or enthusiasm for anything was deemed uncool.

Maybe the next generation of youth that just helped elect Obama will show the rest of us (not the TPM folks of course)a way out of the malaise?

I might be in the minority but I didn't think there was anything that neede to be "cleared". I guess every area ought have the right to define for itself what kind of zoning or codes they want to pass but I wish generally that folks (not you necessarily) wouldn't get so uptight about things not looking yuppified all the time...

I heard him speak here in Denton a couple years back and the room was packed and folks were buzzing. He has been doing a yeoman's job of exposing the Bu$h agenda for environment rape. He understands the interconnectedness and importance of wildlife on our national psyche. I have no idea if he would be an excellent Cabinetmember or administrator of a huge bureacracy.

After I got off work at 9, I went and got a couple of my favorite IPAs and went home where I knew there was a party waiting. My step daughter of 16 and her friends were over-about 12 in all including Erin and I. None of the kids could vote but they were (and are) huge Obama fans.

No-one had celebrated with the noisemakers yet when I arrived so when they called Virginia we all went outside in our predominantly Repug neighborhood and made as mush noise as possible. Shortly thereafter they called the election for Obama and we did it again!

I wanted Virginia really badly for kharma's sake and she came thru. I only really got teary when Obama spoke.

Great to see the kids so enthused! We are the "cool", Democratic, liberal, freak-friendly house. LOL!

I agree, geha- it seems all along the way, Obama has conciously tried to tie his candidacy in with history. From Springfield to St. Louis to Manassas to Grant Park (and many others I'm forgetting).

It interesting-

I think his constant calls for service and asking for us to believe in ourselves is a call for us to be engaged as a nation. This can take many forme from volunteering to conservation to whathaveyou. But, IMO, it means *not letting goverment roll over us* the way Bush did and staying politically engaged.
