At first I thought the Wright issue was legitimate. Wright's comments were disgusting, and Obama not only attended the church, but took his children there every Sunday, or however frequently he attended church. Nothing that Wright said ever caused Obama to publicly repudiate Wright or leave the Church.

I never thought that Obama shared Wright's belief that the government invented AIDS to kill black people, or any of the other absurdities that Wright spewed. I thought it was probably the case that Obama didn't even attend church that frequently. I thought the significance of the story was that Obama was like so many other politicans, a member of a church primarily for the political organization it provided, not it's theology.

I still think that's the case, but I don't think that's the why the media is playing it anymore. I could not believe Anderson Cooper last night. I don't think they spent 20 minutes on the tornados and the rest on Wright. He kept replaying clips of Wright's speeches over and over again. Then I realized that they're not making the point that Obama is as much a politican as the next senator. The point that is being made is," This is what black people say when white people aren't around."

The story is now being played to associate Obama with the worst sterotypes that white people have about black people.

I don't want Obama to be the nominee. I support Hillary. But I can recognize this is disgusting.
Will Obama Go Negative?

For the last several weeks I’ve had what I considered a pretty clear idea of how I thought things would play in Pennsylvania, and up until now I’ve been pretty close. I was always of the opinion that Obama would close the gap to single digits in the weeks prior to the primary, maybe even take a slight lead. I thought that come Wednesday or Thursday of this week Hillary would start with a 3 a.m. ad, or the like, and some 527 would start running a Jeremiah Wright ad and Hillary would win going away by double digits, similar to the Ohio situation.

But last week I saw the SUSA poll showing Hillary up by 18 pts. I thought that must be an outlier, until today when I saw the ARG poll giving Hillary a 20 Point lead. Then I thought, Maybe she doesn’t need to go negative. She could just run ads accentuating whatever it is that small town white people tell pollsters they prefer about her over Obama. Then just allow the media to remind the voters of the elitist comments Obama made in a bath house in San Francisco while receiving a pedicure from Tony Lane. That should be good for 15 points.

Obama can’t just sit back and take that. Especially after he out spent Hillary 3 to 1 in the state. If he loses Pennsylvania by 20 points, the narrative changes. He is no longer inevitable. Hillary’s argument about winning the right voters and the right states starts to gain significant credibility. It leaves him terribly situated for Indiana and opens the possibility of Hillary winning North Carolina. There are 5 undeclared Indiana Congressmen in Indiana, How many of then are going to endorse Obama if Hillary wins the State by 15%?

Obama will go negative to forestall this possibility. I don’t know what the content of the negativity will be (maybe, “If you don’t know that you don’t sip out of a shot glass, you’ll destroy our relations with our new eastern European allies, and therefore destroy NATO.”), but I bet that no later than Thursday night Obama goes Negative (comparative if you prefer) in a big way.

I've been a Hillary supporter since the beginning. It has not even been a close call for me. I've been on the Liberal side of politics long before I could vote, and for whatever reason the charm that so many of the commenters on this site find in Obama is completely lost on me. The man simply has no appeal to me.

When asked if I would support Obama in the general election I equivocate. Sometimes I say, I don't think I'm capable of voting for someone who I really dislike, other times I say I don't think I could not vote for Obama
after a three month campaign in which Obama keeps giving
the right answers and McCain gives the wrong answers. I've recently been freed of the need to answer that question, as I've discovered that Obama can't win either way, so I'm free to vote against my own interest. I've always felt he can't win, but here is the source of my certainty:

I was discussing Alice Walker's Obama article with my step mother. My stepmother is a tax attorney and self described feminist of a certain age, (63). She said was only slightly suprised because she knew, having read Alice Walker's books that Alice Walker understood the obstacles faced by women, but that she, my stepmother, had never been black, and perhaps race trumps gender.
But then she made the argument that convinced me with more certainty than I ever had that Obama can't win.
She said that if Obama were the nominee she would vote for McCain, the first Republican she had voted for since Goldwater. I questioned her about voting against her own interest and beliefs, and she responded, "I don't see this as any different from any other case where a less qualified male gets a job over a more qualified woman." She said she found the Democratic Party doing this more repulsive than a McCain presidency. Then she began listing a litany of situations where, in her view, less qualified males were promoted over more qualified women. It was clear in her voice that where I was equivocating, she was not.
Obama will probably be able to win over liberal white males in their mid thirties. (I think I'm the only one he hasn't got yet.) But I bet that my stepmother's experience and sentiments are similar to those of other
white women over 50, and if Obama can't get that vote Obama Can't Win.

So I pose this question to Obama Supporters:
How do you win these women over, or how do you win without them?
