      <![CDATA[Hard to say which way to go with this, but I am leaning against the so called Health Care Reform.&nbsp; The main thing in favor of Health Care Reform would be the hope that something better would come out of conference committee.&nbsp; Pass the bag of s**t in the Senate and try to fix it.&nbsp; Leaning against it is that the House bill was pretty watered down, too.&nbsp; The only good plan (Medicare buy-in) got gored in less than a week.&nbsp; <br /><br />Some halfway decent Senators say there is plenty good in their screwed up plan, but its central feature is mandates instead of taxes.&nbsp; I favor honesty = taxes.&nbsp; If we are going to pay 20% of our income to a federally required program, I'd rather pay it to the feds, who I can then lean on to develop a more progressive tax system, than to insurance companies for whom the idea of progressive taxation means nothing.<br /> ]]>

mean I had higher expectations. Hmmm. No, I didn't have higher
expectations in Obama. I had higher expectations that if we built a 60%
majority in both houses of Congress that we could move our agenda. It
is clear to me that the problem we have is that there are too many
DINOs. </p>

<p>What are the choices? 70% majorities? Minority parties to the left?
Give into the Republicans who can change the course of public policy
with 50.5% majorities? Selectively remove DINOs, aiming mostly to move
them to the left but admitting that some will fall to the right? I
don't know. </p>

<p>It seems that 70% majorities are a pipe dream. Giving into the
Republicans is a disaster. That leaves minority parties and selectively
removing DINOs. Minority parties have never made much headway in
American politics.</p>

<p>Time to select the DINOs who will fall.</p>

      <![CDATA[On the front page the master, JMM, asks whether the <i>polloi </i>would like to receive their momentary doses of TPM on Kindles and iPhones.&nbsp; He doesn't provide a feedback device, but I assume he wants feedback on the qt via email.&nbsp; I am not good at feedback on the qt.<br /><br />I have noticed a decided preference for proprietary devices in these sorts of queries around here.&nbsp; Kindles are noted for two things at the moment... They only work with Amazon approved book formats and, so it seems, Amazon can actually invade your device and steal back your book.&nbsp; While iPhone hasn't that bad a reputation, it is, again, a proprietary device delivering the goods in proprietary format.<br /><br />Let's assume the intention is good (get the message out in more forms of the media).&nbsp; Please stop being so upper-middle-class/hooked-on-proprietary-goods.&nbsp; Its offensive.<br /><br />Thank you.<br /> ]]>
