Did it together
So far I have seen people claim that blacks, women, gays, Jews, anti-war folks, and maybe-even-alien-invasion-believers put Barack Obama into the White House. As a straight white male ex-protestant, I guess I can only claim credit under the anti-war label (I am not really that into X-Files).
The fact is, *None* of these groups are responsible for the election of Obama. The left is a coalition of progressive groups, it isn't a pile of various unimportant groups plus one linchpin group.
I get so tired of the competition among progressives. We won *together*. Unless we can credit each other and stick together, we will be looking at right wing politics creeping right back in next year.
So please, don't be so damn proud of your group and demand that your group's concerns get to the top of the pile. We have all been in the wilderness for 40 years, and we need to move forward together.

Thank you! I agree! I wasn't really aware though that infighting had started. I wasn't worried about it either. Maybe I should be. It is natural, and inevitable. But we are so much better off, as a loose configuration of progressives, than we were before we went through the last year together.
The reason I am optimistic about our ability to sustain some sort of cohesian (while similtaneously focusing on issues as we chose), is because of the personal connections I have seen made. In my work as a full time volunteer in Florida and Ohio (and also in PA during the primary and my fundraising and phone calling in NYC) had many moments of individual connection - a vibrant debate, look of recognition, help given, help recieved, teamwork, words of kindness, gratitude, acknowledgement of common hopes and fears. These moments were with all the people you've described. All ages and cultural backgrounds, and from all over the country. My capacity to "stick together" as you put it with pepole different from myself has grown immensely through these experiences. And while not everybody went to another state to campaign, I believe these experiences, or more subtle moments of common purpose between obama supporters across the world, will send waves throughout the country. Nah, we won't all get along. But we are certainly more likely to than we were a year ago.

It was the older white women demographic that was supposed to be for Clinton but supported Obama from the beginning and were rewarded with Joe Biden that voted early and won the election for Obama. That's me and 7 of my friends and family!

Well if we want to name the one person who did the most to help Obama win this election lets give credit where its due. Cause really, she deserves to be honored for her work. Sarah Palin. No one person did more to move moderate republicans, independents, and on the fence democrats to Obama than Sarah.
